They've already said they're returning $2300 in the form of WoTG givaeways. Jesus.
WotG giveaways do not answer questions, they're distractions. I think there's a lot more than $2300 in question here, but that's besides the point, I just quoted because it was easier. ;P
Dangle a shiny, people turn dumb.
Taj is living proof of that himself with this, isn't he?
Well, when all this came to light it was kind of late. I'd guess this will happen tomorrow. Probably as well a lot of people are taken back by this. No one likes to see the good guy turn out to be a dick hole.Originally Posted by Luto

You have to take their survey, which they then sell the SE through Ganiman's company, Telatexo. So, in the end, they're actually making more money.
Disappointed, trust no one, ect.

I'm not really talking about the people left behind. The people that got shifted off server, apart from all the disruption and confusion this has caused them and their LS, are also now locked out of any endgame activities for the next three months. Meaning no relic, no gil from any HNMs they might kill, no rare/ex stuff, and apart from that a lot of them are saying they haven't even had all of their stuff returned yet. (Someone mentioned that they were still missing a Novia and manteels, plural, upthread somewhere, for starters.) I dunno, Gaiters seems like a poor consolation prize in comparison.Originally Posted by Churchill
Worst part about all this: Nothing gonna happen to Taj. The guy has no fear of reprisal. Anyone defending this guy deserves all the bad things in life to happen to them. There is no shade of grey in this little ordeal, you're just a fucking limp-dicked e-thug douchebag who only plays by the rules you want to play by, or else you'll "liberate" an account.
You are not a hero.
Any cliffnotes? This thread was at 10 pages and now its at 30 all of a sudden, i don't have the time to read it all ;x
Like..is it known who did it?
Taj hacked about 9 accounts, shifted them off-world, and stole a bunch of gear and gil.Originally Posted by Fayttt

That's pretty much the concensus, yep.

1. The irony argument was stupid. The only reason people pidgeon hole the definition of irony into less than it is, is that comedians who made fun of Alanis Morisette's(sp/idc) shitty song, and some equally shitty movie about kids kidnapping their teacher like 10 years ago bled this ignornace to the masses-- both Alanis and possibly the actress in the movie (idr) were correct in their usage of the word irony to begin with. If I throw a ball, and it's the round kind, not the dancing party kind, are you going to sit there and adamantly fucking refute that I'm throwing a ball? That's what it amounts to.
2. If this were to be made a legal issue, damages could be claimed for more than $25 in the case of server transfers. If you were to paint a picture in your free time and someone destroyed it, you would not only be able to claim the cost of the paint and canvas. If it were something that you worked hard on, something that had a clear value beyond the materials it was composed of, or whatever argument you can reasonably make for why this screwed you over, you could claim damages higher than the simple server transfer fee. You might not get them, but it could get you to court. (Not that anyone is going to, but you might keep it in mind for future reference.) That's claims court though, I'm not sure if the same principles would relate to or be transferrable to a trial court.
3.lol, I read that all wrong. I think it works both ways though.Eventually, you should get someone high enough who can do something.
4. Someone made a comment long ago about people selling their accounts when they left the game, and having no respect for it or something of that nature. Really, why? What damage does it do? One more high level noob on the server? O noez? It's not like buying gil, which employs the RMT, and it's not like being an RMT, who constantly interfere with player enjoyment of the game to make the money. Those are legitimate complaints. I wouldn't lump in selling an account when you quit the game with the same moral stigma just because it technically, semantically, qualifies as RMT.
5. I'm not one to chime in before the evidence is on the table or the verdict is in (or before I know who and how is hacking people on my server), but assuming that Taj had no knowledge of RMT or other cheating such as the use of bots (which could have turned up in the PMs), then to screw over innocents is really fucking weak. I'm not averse to hacking for the purposes of vigilantism, but for sheer douchebaggery, that's the worst.
Nonetheless, I have always reserved judgment and consider the possibility that these people did deserve what they got. Until I know otherwise though, Taj's actions are a thousand rungs below RMT on the moral-o-meter.
While this may normally be the case and what I'd generally agree with, I have to QFT @ Ish.Originally Posted by Solund
This was a completely fucked up thing for Taj to do, and with how he's handled himself in this thread I don't believe I'll ever believe he's more than a child with no regard for other people. Taj essentially ruined the game for at least 9 people, but most likely a lot more than that. I know that for myself if some of my close friends quit the game, or were sent to other servers, I'd enjoy the game a lot less and maybe quit. I've done a lot of things in this game and acquired a lot of gear, the enjoyment in my playtime is largely spending time with those people. Taj ripped an LS apart and could very well have ruined the game for 30+ people. If everyone truly is selfish enough to laugh on the basis it hasn't happened to you then what a sad state of humanity we're in. I normally laugh at 4chan coldness and blatant disregard for others feelings but this should hit every FFXI player close to home, these people were guilty of nothing(at least for Taj's purposes), just playing the game and got completely fucked over. It could have easily been you and your LS/friends.
