In regards to who paid for server transfers:

Atleast on my account, the payment info was not changed, so when the request was made for server transfer to HADES... it auto-billed my credit card that was on the POL account.

I think only a couple of the accounts had payment info changed... but not sure if that was before or after the transfer.

I wonder what would happen if you denied that charge.

The account would be canceled until the payment was made.

A lot of people in this thread have problems. No one seems to have grudges towards people who've quit and sold millions and millions of gil to get "their money's worth" or whatever out of the game. Even those that come back, everyone just forgets about it. And yet, buying a small amount of gil 3 years ago is unforgivable. *shrug*

Why do people keep saying Taj did it because someone RMT'd? Did I miss a post by him that STATED that this was the reason? I'm pretty sure that's a motive that other people invented while still trying to justify Taj.

If I had to guess his motives, I would say he got bored and looked up DT's former LS's website on a whim and saw that it was an exploitable system. Then he checked the PMs via said exploit, probably thinking to himself "Hmm, I wonder how many people still don't know that someone can do this; wonder if I'll find any passwords, lawl", then he did. I think he did it because people STILL make their info available through some means or another, and he thinks that this single act of carelessness/stupidity warrants getting their shit wrecked. I don't this his total lack of concern is a facade. I think this act was not premeditated. Their was no greater cause. He's not fucking Robin Hood. He's a bored teenager that knew a forum exploit.

Say your account was hacked with no 3rd party software and put the blame on them. If you threaten to quit write up and alert the community they usually find that "loop hole"

There's alot of bored teenagers who can get exploits. (3pp) The deciding factor is to whether or not you actually do it.

I agree it wasn't premeditated. He probably came across the info because of his over-indulgence in the drama with him and DT. Even so, going that far to try to win against DT, at the expense of his LS members, thats just wrong.

Anyone reminded of the Blacknova/CP scandal? All of BG (minus me and a few others) turned on him and kept harassing him (going so far as to create characters on his server) based on some very vague wordings from a news article. Epic thread, I believe around 40 pages or so ~ and in the end it turned out the guy was innocent (Charges were dropped, which is the same thing - don't get me started on this please).

Some of the crackpot theories in that thread included shit like "maybe in the other 25 cases he was actually mollesting children instead of just looking at videos!!" etc etc, completely destroying that guy's reputation. When the much more logical conclusion would be that he accidently downloaded the 1 video he had due to shitty Limewire (easy to download a wrong or corrupt file using unmoderated p2p protocols such as gnutella - while it's almost non-existant in moderated protocols such as BitTorrent), and that the other 25 cases of "abuse" were just stupid MP3S and movies that the RIAA/MPAA just love targeting college kids for.

I'm just wondering why he hasn't apologized yet. I mean, he obviously regrets it, he's trying to return what items he can - I think that right there would be proof enough that he knows that what he did wasn't "justice," or punishment, or whatever you want to call it.

Again, because he isn't sorry, from what I can tell. Look at his posts. He's returning the items probably because he never intended to steal any of them, just to fuck them over with a server change. Idk though, I haven't had the opportunity to see the accounts stolen, I am under the impression he is returning their gil and items. Again, BG got what it asked for. We encouraged this behavior. Not saying it's our fault, Taj is wrong and 17 is old enough to be accountable for his actions, but we asked for this.

Wow @ people fearing for their accounts... just change your password... Taj may be resourceful (and not TOO terribly much; the method for obtaining the passwords wasn't even original, and I believe I mentioned it on some random single-digit page), but he isn't omniscient. The funniest part about this entire thread was when he told people to contact him who hadn't gotten their accounts back and he would PM them their info. Am I the only one that DIDN'T whoosh on this?

If you have not done so already, please send Aang a message (maybe not forum PM given recent circumstances) detailing exactly how you did this. You have alluded to backing up the database, but even then there were passwords. And several members said they had changed their POL passwords since what had been sent in personal message. Not only can Ultima then make sure their site is more secure, but it can also prevent any copycats who may try to use the same exploit to victimize others.
