Taj is probably cracking up right now because this is going to get to 40 pages without him saying a word. I for one will have no part in it!
Oh wait..damn it :E

Taj,
Thank your for returning these individuals' accounts.
Mods,
I think this thread has gone about as far as it can and rests on the brink of falling into the endless cycle unrelated parties trying to tie this to an underground effort to liberate Tibet from the Commies solely to get to 40 pages. Lock pls.

As I said before, why hasn't this happened before, then? Thats my point. I have access to someone's account info; I can login whenever I feel like it. I can change the PW, take the gil and ship them off to another server, making them spend money that they shouldn't have to. But I didn't do that. Same goes for everyone else who has others' information. Whether it be obtained directly from the person or uncovered by doing some extra work. The point is his moral judgement is completely out of whack.but if it hadn't been taj, it would be someone else
Really, if the thread will die, it needs no proding from you.
This is why I always expect the worst of people- you're never disappointed then!![]()
I'd hope that the people who were hacked will contact their respective credit card companies and file a dispute on the $25.00 charge for the server transfer, since technically their accounts were charged without their knowledge/permission.
EDIT: I'm also slow to post here- 36 pages is a lot to read in between actual work (inputting detentions into the computer system :3 )
For some reason I passed up this thread on Tuesday & Wednesday... then I was alerted to the epicness that was brewing last night. Unfortunately, I was too tired to read at the time... then BOOM! This thing exploded!
Wow, was I entertained. This thread had it all... I laughed, I cried, I was riveted.
With that said... all you idiots posting asking for a summary (essentially tl;dr), get off your asses and read up. It's well worth your time... nothing like BG drama to pass the time. Ah... takes me back to the old days.
I'd contact my credit card company if someone went on a Walmart shopping spree, but SE is going to respond to a chargeback by cancelling your account, so in that situation I'd tread very lightly and try to work it out with SE first.
This language amazes me. You are thanking the thief for getting caught.Originally Posted by Fodder

-Taj stole other peoples accounts. This wasn't just a prank. It was a crime. It is something he should go to jail for.
-Through their own efforts, most of the victims got control of their accounts back on their own.
-Taj got caught.
-He isn't returning the last accounts because he is a nice guy who should be thanked, he is only doing it because he got caught.
If a person robs a bank, a house, or a store and the police catch them, then they go to jail. They don't get a free pass for offering to return the stolen goods.
Sad but true. I couldn't have said it any better.Originally Posted by Ryko

How am I defending him?? I am saying WE are the ones at fault for assuming so much regarding him, in light of everything that happened. Not really a "we should have seen this coming," but more of a "we shouldn't have forgotten this could have been coming." It's not excusing his actions, though.Originally Posted by Yutuyu
But what he did doesn't change the fact that he isn't like, evil incarnate. It is possible to be a friend to a person and not condone their actions. It's just difficult to do. There is only one action -- well, so far anyway -- someone can do that will make me completely flip flop and cut off my relationship with them, and hacking ain't it.
Also, I do believe he promised not to post anymore, so that could be a reason for his silence.
I don't know, it's very easy to bandwagon again, and all those people who bandwagonned on the wiki threads to 'Taj for President' now feel really silly, I'm sure, and denounce him to save face (not saying this is you, Yutu, just making a point); don't you think it's harder to try and be compassionate and hope that somehow some good will come of this for the culprit? Is it so bad that I made one post in this thread (would have been more had I not been napping) defending him because I didn't believe him capable of this and evidence wasn't conclusive?
Is it so hard to believe that I, thinking him incapable of this, would want to try and make some sort of allowances for him? That's not a huge leap, is it? But the actions are indefensible, so I have to instead focus on the fact that there has to be some ray of hope and possibility that he can change.
Why attack me for hoping for some eventual good? Yes, he fucked up, I said that. Yes, what he did was really fucking stupid. I said that. But I'd look like a huge fucking hypocrite if I just wrote him off now. Having been a victim of people's ability to be fickle, I often try my hardest not to be so, even when it puts me in a bad spot. It does leave me unable to answer questions sometimes, at least to the extent people want.. especially when what they really want is not for me to find the answer for why I retain my stance, but to actually change my viewpoint.
oh ffs... not again.
i can't believe this hasn't been locked, you see what he's doing.
lock it.

Back off her she took the side of her friend at first defending him before the proof hit. She has said what he did was wrong, but unlike most people she is willing to stand by her friends no matter what, something you don't see too often.
had to stick up for girls from maine =D
Well said. Pretty much in line with what anyone does or will do for a friend, those that chastise you for it are hypocrits. He who lives in a glass house should never throw stones eh?Originally Posted by Ashira
