    Damage Calculation Order & Damage Reduction Gear

    Ok, question. Earlier this evening @ Dynamis: Bastok, I survived a point blank Eagle Eye Shot from a Vanguard Mason (354 damage total). It lead me to wonder in what order would the calculation of damage be completed in.

    Following effects/gear were on at the time:

    Stoneskin (113 MND, Maxed Enhancing for BLM (200))
    Phalanx
    Earth Staff (Physical Damage Reduction -20%)
    Chevoit Cape (Physical Damage Reduction -5%, was daytime at time of hit)
    Sorc. Earring (Latent Effect: Physical Damage Reduction -30%)

    Fairly confidant it works in this fashion:

    1)First the Damage Formula is used (Base D * pdif). {This is where VIT and Defense matter}

    2)Then all Damage Reduction eq is added together, and reduces the previous result. {D.Ring, Earth Staff, etc...}

    3)Phalanx reduction then takes place. It's a static damage reduction.

    4)The damage is then subtracted from your stoneskin. {Any stoneskin-like effect would take place at this stage.}

    5)Actual HP reduction.

    EDIT: In your above example, Physical Damage reduction caps at 50%. Phalanx is about 25ish for BLM Enhancing Skill(not certian). Your stoneskin is prob 250ish? I'm realli bad on the Phal/SS formulas as I rarely play mage jobs, but those are rough estimates.

    So working backwards with some average values...
    Your Stoneskin was probably 250~ Meaning you took about 250+355 = 605 Damage
    Phal prob reduced it by 25 damage, so 605+25 = 630 Damage
    Physical Damage Reduction was probably capped at 50%, so 630x2 = 1260 Damage~

    What was your max hp? I thought that the earring would activate on damage that pushes you into the latent.

    In terms of order, to my knowledge it works like so:
    -dmg%
    Phalanx
    Stoneskin

    So the EES you ate was only 1081 damage if my math is right (cheviot is superfluous since 50% is damage cap).

    Damage Reduction gear puts me at 712 hp

    Isn't the -%'s to the /245 or whatever the fraction is?

    /256 or /512, and (assuming we're getting as close to the actual %s as possible)

    20% = 51/256 and 30% = 77/256, which = 128/256, so even then the cheviot shouldn't matter.

    Then again the actual number might be different, I'm not going off of testing.

    with those stats, you had 347 hp stoneskin, and -18 damage phalanx.

    EES from Dynamis Mobs, Bastok especially, can just be made of fail most of the time. When I go on BLM, I'll routinely pull hate on the RNG right before they 2hour just because the majority of the time they'll do 0 if I'm buffed. About the only thing I'll macro in, is the Earth Staff right after the spell goes off, just in case, but even skip that if I'm casting Thunder.

    EES afaik is basically a sidewinder without the secondary mods. Which means if they have crappy attack, they won't get big pDIF and it won't be multiplied much.

    When I have counterstance on, I routinely take 2500~ damage from dynamis EES.

    Forget EES, ore toss is broken on Quadavs...

    Took 1600 a couple times and over 1000 on other occasions....
