    FFXI-4001

yeah yeah, I searched, but I couldnt find anything that detailed a fix.

I recently moved into my sisters place, to watch over her at my parents request, and I've been getting this error nonstop. I've got a wireless router, but I'm connected directly to it. Never had this problem before I moved. I also play with my laptop connected on wireless, and it has the same problems, but the disconnects arent always simultaneous. I've had a ping running to an IP I found in one of those previous threads (I guess its the FF servers?), and I noticed this when I disconnected:

I'm going to assume thats whats been causing my disconnects, however I do not exactly understand what that means, or how to possibly fix it.

My router firmware is allready up to date as well. I havent tried a direct connection from modem to PC yet.

i'm not familiar with specific routers, but have you tried running the cable directly from your modem to the laptop to see if that works temporarily.

What kind of router is it, linksys?

Is it the same router that you had set up at your old place? I know when i used to move around a few times and used the same router I would have to go into it and manually reset it's PPoE (or whatever is this) in order to get it to work again with the new ISP/location or whatever. It's been like 4 years so I don't remember exactly what it was I had to change (big help i know), but try resetting the router manually from it's internal config.

can you at least get a solid connection if you bypass the router and go straight from the modem for now?

    Re: FFXI-4001

    First, what's your TTL value?

    c:/>ping localhost

Assuming you have win xp and are getting other value than TTL=128, then (close all shit you have open):

    c:/>ipconfig /flushdns

Then ping the servers again. If that shit still expires, then is some other shit.

valiant effort, but the flushdns didnt seem to work. TTL is 128 too. Done a modem reset, done....well....everything.

I'm going to go back to my old place and pick up my old modem, see if that would help. If not, think its possible to call the ISP and complain about the packetloss ?

Granted, since I've done the flushdns, I've spiked once, in whitegate, so its tough to say.

I've had a similar problem while playing at my brothers place using my laptop and he also has a wireless connection. At times I would just randomly get disconnected and it was due to the connection quality being worse at that moment. Maybe you have a similar problem where you get disconnected due to the wireless connection being unstable?

Yeah you need to check with your ISP since that seems to be the problem. I don't know where the hell you live, but ISP's can check your line rather quick. Good luck~

    Nynja who is your ISP?

Also if you are on cable I can run a test off of your MAC ID

This is an isp issue dude, generally it clears with time aaaannnnnd just before a tech shows up at your door telling you everything is fine. I often find issues like this are associated with a saturated cable pipeline (i.e. lots of ppl around you using bandwidth). Could be as simple as your neighbor contracting a virus which is now spaming the internet with virus shit. :/

Getting 4001 on ps2 and 4002 on pc. Exact same problem you have described. Tried the same stuff you have tried and still nothing. Not sure what to do about it now. It seems to come and go, but past 4 hours everytime I log in I dc seconds later.

edit: replaced my router recently, because my old one died. This one is wireless and worked pretty well until these errors started in. They happened every once in a while after the maint on tuesday, and slowly have gotten worse to the point where I pretty much can't do anything.

If he can connect without the router its not an ISP Issue.
4002 Issue is a Blocked UDP Problem.

You can try try resetting your routers settings and DHCP via the Routers Website
    (LinkSys Example: http://levade.homeip.net/dhcp/)

After trolling forums for 90 minutes I came up with this as the only fix to your issue
FIXED FIXED FIXED FIXED FFXI-4401 FIXED FIXED FIXED FIXED!!!!!!

    Here's what I did...

I bought a Netgear Switch (FS108) and am currently running the modem directly to it (uplink port). I have a cable running from the uplink port on a WG624 wireless router, to port #1 on the switch. I have one PS2 (newer model) running to port #2 on the switch, then an older model PS2 running to port #3 on the switch. HOW does it all work?

I could be wrong, so someone jump in and correct if I am.

Each cable modem stores one IP address that's issued automatically by your ISP. The router then shares that one IP address to anything connected to it. Our PS2, FFXI specifically, needs a specific IP address at all times. What I did is contact my ISP (Roadrunner) and requested two fixed IP addresses in addtion to what I already have. Which technically is three lines.. one for ps2, a second one for another ps2 and a third that's shared for all computers (router). If I connect another ethernet connection to the switch, that pc or ps2 won't work. Why? Because the 3 ip addresses I requested are already being used up. But if I hook up that same ethernet cable to the router, THEN I'll have a connection to the net. Obviously, if I connect another PS2 to the router it won't work and we're back to square one.

Each IP is an additional 10.00 bucks. But is it worth it? Hell yeah! I've been on for 1hr and 18 minutes and counting!

Also, everything is set to automatic. The key here is how many pcs or ps2s you want to hook up. If you have a pc and a ps2, then call your isp, request 1 fixed ip address. Then you'd get a small 5 port hub and run that BEFORE your router. The modem cable straight into the hub, then one cable for your PS2 and another for your router. Power up your PS2 first. If you power up the PC first then it may store the fixed ip address to it instead of the PS2. Also, to reset your modem, unplug it for 30 seconds or so (needs to be done).

If you have 2 ps2s then you'd ask for 2 fixed ip addresses as I did. 3 then 3 and so on..

The alternative to all of this is to unplug the modem from your pc and connect it to your ps2 each time. You have to make sure you unplug modem as the setting's for the pc were saved previously and not the ps2. Once you reboot your modem (30 seconds), then it'll store your ps2. Once you're done, you'd obviously have to connect the cable back to your pc and reboot your modem again. Questions?

    Re: FFXI-4001

I did the /flushdns and a modem reset at the same time (/flushdns, then modem reset)...since then I've been stable. I dont know if thats coincidence or not.
