I don't agree with what taj did but i'm sure there are alot of people out there who wouldn't think twice about jacking someones account because the people didn't find better ways to get their account info to people they trust.

call me paranoid but nothing is safe on a computer or on the internet without risks. The moment you give your info out to someone, store it on private msg's on a forum, email, etc your taking a big risk.

Theft is a lot worse than RMT imo.

-RMT itsself doesn't hurt the community. Professional gil-farmers do. Although most of the FFXI end game community does the exact same thing the gil-farmers do@HNM camps. There are also games other than FFXI that work perfectly fine where RMT is legal and encouraged.

-Selling your account and gil when you're bored with the game doesn't hurt anyone, and I bet everyone playing has a friend whos sold/bought an account.

-I empathize with a guy who has to spend 16hours a day camping ullikummi to help feed hisself/family alot more than a spoiled kid who wants a byakko's haidate or whatever.

-Gil-farmers can be beneficial to the community by doing a lot of the tedious and monotonous pop item farming for you so you, yourself don't have to spend 8 hours farming sky just to fight one sky god. Which helps even if you don't buy gil.

-Most of the best money drops are in BCNMs now, so there is no reason to be poor b/c of competitive, non-instanced cock-block.

They are all equally as bad as the other for one simple reason: it is ALL lying. With ANY of the offenses, you are operating under some form of false pretense -- regardless of motive, regardless of action, regardless of the extent of damage. (a)They are ALL about being dishonest, and therefore all equally as bad.

sure, they'd hurt in different ways or to different extents, but it would ALL hurt, and hurting people purposefully to ANY extent is wrong.

(a) Me technically lying (and that's what you're arguing about, right? the technicality of it all?) to my baby brother about Santa is the same usage of the word "lying" as the dirty cop scenario I submitted before. However, because it's Santa and not court, it's not frowned upon. This is why the statement, and arguement, of (a) fails so hard.

(b) Buying gil does hurt the economny, but do you think that everyone who buys gil is saying to themselves "gosh golly gee I hope this hurts the economy as much as it possibly can!" I sincerely doubt it, considering most players who buy gil buy it to afford some random piece of equipment or two. There's no mailicous intent in that, just ignorance of the current situation regarding RMT.

(c) He's 5 years old, so all of his friends believe it too. And he's not my kid, so I'm not really in the position to tell him what he should and should not believe. That statement just shows a lack of argument on your part.

(d) Statements (c) and (d) contradict each other. Go back and fix that.

Buy an account from IGE
Register as a new poster on BG with the same name and server that the initial account came from
Move to anothe server two days later but keep the name

And then start a post entitled "what's the worst thing you can do"

I think any way of ruining the gameplay for others is the 'worst' thing.. Lots of things fall under that category, including account stealing.

He didn't really walk (or...type) into an unprotected forum with no password and just looked around. It would be more like someone being able to break into your 1988 Chevy Blazer because it doesn't have the same protection as the 2005 Cadillac sitting right next to it. Even if it was locked, it's a lot easier to break into. But that's not the driver's fault, and the mindset shouldn't be "oh well because someone can pick the lock on my car I shouldn't be pissed if they do." It should be "why the fuck are you jacking my car. >:O"
