    Damage Explanation?

    I know very little about PDIF formulas and whatnot, but this is something i've never seen, or heard about:

    Job was WAR, with zerk and aggressor up, byakko's axe and a sis kebabi (i think). It was a NM spider in Nyzul Isle, and it didnt seem to have any other damage addition effect. Aside from that one hit, everything else was normal. I'm wondering how this was possible. Sorry if there is another thread for this btw.

    i don't know either. I have done 450 damage critical hit on Salvage mob before. Weird as hell....

    Taking a shot in the dark here, but, would something like Angon(or some other def down) possibly produces results like that? (ie first hit with angon in effect, and second one after it wore).

    frightful roar/acid bolts wouldn't do anything that drastic

    But critical hit should have a cap, or at least it should be close to the cap. I was using perdue sickle and the critical should cap at around 315 ish. Those aren't mobs that take double the damage like some of the limbus mobs are.

    critical hit should have a cap, or at least it should be close to the cap

    as an above poster said, the setup was:

    war,war,blu,rdm,brd,thf. No acids, i was actually the only one fighting the mob, so no real effects.

    Can only assume either its some sort of buff(song/food/zerk/etc) that connected for the first hit, or some debuff (Dia2/Angon/etc). Or I guess the initial question was how a 'regular hit' even reached that high without critical? If it was seriously just completely random with no explanation I guess I'd be pretty puzzled too.

    does the nm have some kind of special berserk like effect that drastically lowers it's defense? aside from that I cant imagine anything that would change the damage that drastically...

    Byakko's Axe = 94 damage
    Weapon Rank = 10
    Thus fSTR cap is 18.

    Assume that fSTR is capped, thus damage before pDIF calculation is 112.

    229 to 403.

    403/112 = over 3.5 pdif.

    So the question is: WTF?

    Honestly... I have no idea about pDif either, I just /nod and make up little simple answers like this, that don't exactly answer your question.

    Hmm. Lets assume that the NM was slashing weak.

    Then there's a 1.25 extra mod on things. Before adjustment & flooring that makes the following changes.

    323 > 403

    ? > 229? Turns out this can't be converted. There is no whole number which when multiplied by 1.25 and then floored is equal to 229.

    Theory: Tomahawk was used in the NM and lowered the slashing down to -.25% (which I didn't think it was capable of doing... bug?) which then wore off in the middle.

    Lets say this is the case, then the damage ranges from 323 > 229. Making the average 229 + 94/2 or 229 + 47 or 276.

    Assume that the ranges are equal to old ranges (that is, pDIF goes up .4 and down .4 for the max/mins).

    Then (cratio) * based = 276

    And (cratio - .4) * based = 229

    And (cratio + .4) * based = 323

    We want to get rid of based so solve the first equation for it, and you get that 276/cratio = based. Plug into other eqatuions.

    (cratio-.4)*276/cratio = 229
    or
    (cratio-.4)*276 = 229*cratio
    276*cratio -.4*276 = 229cratio
    47cratio= .4*276
    cratio = .4*276/47 = 2.34 cRatio or so.

    Does this fit for the other equation?

    (cratio+.4)*276/cratio =? 323
    (2.34+.4)*276/2.34 =? 323
    (2.74)*276/2.34 =? 323
    323.179 =? 323

    Yes, after SE's flooring.

    SO yeah, case solved.

    I'm positive tomahawk wasnt used, as i only use it on mousse, and SOMETIMES draguars.

    Using the 2.34 value and 276 as the average, 176/2.34 = 118. Which is greater than it should be capable of being. Hmm.

    Okay, maybe I dunno. Nice try at least.

    Did anyone ever find out what max pDIF with 2-handed weapons was after last update?

    What if Mat was at max fSTR?

    403/112(max fSTR) = 3.6pDIF

    Wow thats pretty damn high for non-crits. Saw a post here claiming 2-handers get 3.0pDIF cap on non-crits now after update. Even if this were true how the hell can he reach 3.6pDIF? Just assume 2-handers can hit 3.0pDIF for a sec.

    We already know piling on -def debuffs on the mob, or +att buffs onto Mat will makes no difference to the fact that when we assume that if these bonuses can get infinitely large the pdif shouldn't be able to pass 3.0pdif.

    So whats left?

    Only thing is damage penalty bonuses. A possibility Yutuyu proposed.

    If one of these penalties was initiated there would have been either a 25% or 50% damage increase. We can refine a new possible pDIF then. This though depends on if Mat was getting a Weak or Highly Weak bonus.

    The 25% assumes non-crits can possibly go up to 2.8pDIF and the 50% assumes 2.4.

    2.4! Isn't that the non-crit pDIF cap the we have had for years?

    My theory is that a 50% damage bonus was implemented on that hit because of a bug or some game mechanic not thought of yet.
