    Black Mage losing claim while soloing. ; ;

    I've searched, and can't find an answer, so hoping some more experienced Blm's can tell me where I'm going wrong.

    Take a W. Prince for an example, I'll cast Gravity, Burn, Blizz IV, Thunder IV, (all while trying to stay out of range) and it will depop.. mostly before my second Tier IV spell. If I let it get close, it eats my face (without fail, as I'm a Taru you see, so I prefer to safe face).

    Mostly, it'll start going unclaimed just as I'm casting a Tier IV, and it's depopped before the spell casts, so I can't chuck a quick stun out to keep claim.

    What am I doing wrong while solo'ing? How can I fix this? Is there a max range that I have to stay within to keep claim?

    I've had this happen a lot with Gravy Kiting, by a lot, I mean virtually every mob... please help!

    You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

    <- not a blm, but soloing on rdm can have this happen too.

    My suggestion is try keeping more than one dot on the mob. From my experience if you get too far away and your one dot wears off you can lose claim since nothing is "damaging" the mob. I usually try to keep bio and poison up and layer them so if one wears off the other is still on. (should work with burn/shock/etc)

    It may still happen but I'd say try giving it a shot if you haven't. XD

    This isn't unique to you. Just another consequence of the shittiest change in the game(yes, the BST nerf).

    I usually throw out Dia or stun, and if I'm casting a spell I should be able to land it unless I started casting just as it stopped(and is about to go unclaimed). At that point, I'm fucked and my monitor is about to receive a punch.

    Blind was suggested by somebody in a past thread about this. It's not a DoT and it's pretty fast casting.

    The reason they depop has something to do with either losing sight/sound distance of you while gravitied, or the weather, or both possibly. Don't run too far off and you can mostly avoid the problem.

    It can be a real pain when soloing, but the way I deal with (especially on puddings) is to cast drain/aspir. They are fast casting spells and will keep the mob from depopping long enough to get another tier IV on it. Unfortunately this happens on most mobs ingame, it feels crap when I am soloing aura statues and get depops (not like they drop anything anyway -.-).

    This seems to happen to me the most when casting a spell at max range and it gets interupted, then leaving the mob claimable and depop. Does seem quite random when it happens though, on puddings I think it's easier to avoid this since aspiring and draining them ontop of grav-nuke-stun etc. Always sucks when this happens at the end of the chain too.

    This only really happens on Wamouras or Flans, I don't get this alot in other zones.

    Bind does help a lot, as it's a very high hate generating spell (so is sleep II). Because we grav the mobs, it looses a lot of hate due to distance, and eventually it goes unclaimed, then as said b4, it depoped because of that BST patch.
    So bind right after the 1st nuke does the trick very well. I'd say Stun and Sleep II as well, but we'll rely on them for other ocasions, so better save those.

    Not that BLMs do solo in many other places, but it does happen with any mob. I myself can confirm it happening with Eo'aerns and Eo'ghrahs. In the case of Eo'aern, it actually has a very interesting use. The patch is not that bad ;p

    You're running away too far from it sadly :/ . If you're using the windower with the distance plugin you want to get no more than 20' away from it. If you manage to get 24+' away from it, you need to double back and toss a quick stun or something.

    Yep. It sucks since you really want to be casting from max range, and you can't without losing the claim and risking it depop.

    I solo a hell of alot on my BLM and this always happens to me, sometimes I will forget about it and just keep running like I usually do and then they depop on me. When I am paying attention, I just cast a stun to quickly reclaim it if I am not already casting a nuke on it.

    Re: Black Mage losing claim while soloing. ; ;

    while not a guaranteed "fix", the BST nerf/anti-MPK patch had an interesting effect on some mobs and the spell Bind. This was mostly done to prevent the form of MPK-ing that involved binding a linking mob next to a group, then warping out for those not familiar with this technique.

    I've found that my depops are almost non-existant even when getting out of the 20' range if I have cast Bind on the target. Now the only problem is that if you've DoT'ed the mob and used up bind, if you were to get a gravity resist/partial resist, its not exactly easy to recover as they chase you down. But I'll assume you're level 75 and can manage some easily landed gravities and since you're using DoT on them in the first place, you can quickly solo kill in one MP pool without resting.

    BTW, Wamoura Princes are notorious for going unclaimed even moreso than other mobs, at least that's been my experience with them.

    Wamouras and flans both "track by sight." If they can't see you, they figure you're no longer there. Same as walking through water de-agros crawlers.

    This tends to happen the most when running up slopes while the mob is grav'd (Pulling a wamoura from the middle area up the slope to the gate, or pulling a pudding up the spot where manaburns generally rest), I agree with the other's suggestions, just cast stun if it goes yellow provided it's not down, or just a quick dot/blind/random spell.

    However, don't forget this can be a handy trick when you're in trouble too. I've used it a lot to depop a flan around that one corner... not in the usual solo spot, I usually hang out by the wall, and during the day I can use that corner where the ghost spawns to depop a flan around the little stalagmite or whatever. ;D

    But yeah, it's annoying as hell sometimes.

    If Gravity is up, you don't have to necessarily run quite so far; and use the Bind if you can. :D
