    Broadband speed question

Hey, I figured somewhere here probably knows alot about broadband connections. Check this out, I have a Comcast cable connection and they're offering a 15 buck a month addition that they called something like Powerboost I believe. Id assume a faster connection, how much I don't know. They also said it would only affect download speeds, not necessarily upload speeds (which I dont understand why one, not the other) - but for someone who plays world of warcraft, do you think it's worthwhile? Isn't 50% of your mmporpg upload?

I downloaded a WoW patch that was 79 megs in size, and it took about 10 seconds or less. That to me is really fast -- so will the "Powerboost" affect lag in the game at all (worthwhile to me)? Would you pay the 15 a month more?

Jersey at the speed your getting right now I wouldn't bother to upgrade. The lag you experience in WoW is usally from server side latency which is nothing you can control.

If latency is affecting your performance in game use QuartzCastBars. It will show you your latency in the cast bar and at the end it will be red. When you get into the red you can start performing your next action without being interupted.
IE Running before your done mounting up.
It's why all the casters (or at least most) started switching over to the
    /stopcast
    /cast "Frostbolt" etc macros.

    Re: Broadband speed question

PowerBoost provides a brief burst of download speed above the customer’s provisioned download speed for the first 10MB of a file. It then reverts to the provisioned speed for the remainder of the download.

Thus, for gaming, and relative to your current speed, it is not worth any cash at all to upgrade.

    Re: Broadband speed question

Ok, thank you for the advice.

Since moving from my old place to my new apartment (a new county altogether) I've noticed a dramatic increase in speed on everyday internet stuff like music downloads, youtube bufferings, etc.

The cable modem itself even seems newer. Maybe it's a stronger connection, maybe its the new box, i dont know but its been great.

The additional "powerboost" (espec. since you pointed out it only affects the first 10 megs of a DL) just doesnt seem worth my hard earned money
