Schillings bets performance was on the Red Sox's in 04 Post Season, or did you completely miss that part of season?

The aforementioned Mr. Ramirez pretty much has a Hall of Fame spot locked up. Mike Lowell will hopefully make the HoF if for no other reason than having the best fielding percentage of all time among 3B. While he's still very young, Josh Beckett has the potential pending injuries. He's already won a World Series, is a serious Cy Young candidate, and is really just starting to learn how to pitch. Finally, while I don't think he deserves a spot, it would be possible to make an argument in favor of Varitek. If there were legit catching stats other than caught stealing then he would have earned more than the one gold glove that he has, which coincided with a silver slugger.

He scares all the girls we bring back to the room because he follows them around and touches them, and generally creeps them out. It has nothing to do with the team, it's the person.

No it wasn't his stats I was talking about, I am aware he pitched percentage wise better on other teams. It was his performance against the Yankees in 04' for the AL Championship, thats what I was talking about.

I like 4-0 with a 1.12 ERA in the 2001 playoffs vs playing with a bloody sock. Just me.

Not at all, Posada is a far better hitter, both are the same age, and Jorge is still on the bubble. Varitek has practically zero chance unless he goes apeshit and puts up the numbers Jorge has this year, for the next two years.

I agree, there's no way Varitek will be in the Hall of Fame unless he goes on a Ruthian tear the next few years. He'll be remembered as a below-average defensive catcher with an above-average bat.

As mentioned, Posada's numbers blow Varitek's out of the water and he is a toss-up for hall of fame votes too. In all honesty, I don't know what current catchers besides Pudge are destined for the hall of fame.

Also, let me get this straight.. after giving up more home runs than any other pitcher last year and posting a terrible season, one 19 win season by Beckett and he's suddenly a HoF candidate? Please. And although you didn't mention him, same goes for wonderboy Papelbon, get back to me when he has more than 2 successful (not so much this year!) seasons under his belt.

The only guy I agree with there is Lowell, who has consistently been outstanding. If not for A-rod being rediculous this year, it's a toss up between him and Posada for AL MVP. Still, HoF votes don't grow on trees, he needs to have a few more dominating seasons at 3rd to be considered IMO.

    Re: Red Sox Nation

If A-rod wasn't having such a ridiculous year, I think Maglio Ordonez would get more MVP votes than Posada. Of course, that could be swayed by the Tigers taking a nose dive, but that shouldn't detract too much from Ordonez's superb year.

Beckett has the potential assuming he stays healthy. He has a good, albeit short, post-season track record. Being tied to the Sox will hopefully give him a few chances to either bolster or tear down that record. He has 20 wins this year, not 19, but wins are the wrost pitching stat ever so that's almost irrelevant.

I don't see how you can think Papelbon didn't have a great year. 3rd best ERA among closers, 3rd best SV% among closers with at least 30SV. He wasn't as omgwtf amazing as he was last year, but he was still one of the elite closers in the majors. Before this gets turned around, I'm saying put him in the HoF. I'm just saying he had a great year.

A quick note about Lowell: He has a .976 fielding percentage over 11 major league seasons. He'll play at least another 4 years (he's only a year older than A-rod) barring catestrophic injury. If he maintains that percentage, he will have 15 years of the best all-time 3B fielding percentage. He only has one Gold Glove. That just shows how broken the voting for GG is.

Yeah, I'm gonna have to agree with Ceph on that. Varitek isn't the amazing player that a lot of people make him out to be in Boston, his strength really is working with the pitchers and that's about it. It showed imo last year when he was injured and the pitching went downhill with Javy Lopez behind the plate. (Can argue that all you want, that's just my opinion) But he is too unstable on offense, and horrible with the bases loaded. I mean really when was the last time he had an amazing offensive year? He's mediocre at best on defense as well. Don't get me wrong I like Varitek, but people do over value him a lot. Especially compared to Posada.

Beckett and Papelbon are too young to even be considered to be HoF candidates. Both being about 26-27 they still have their whole career ahead of them and just now Beckett is finally coming into his own as the Sox ace. He had an amazing come back year but let him have a few more years like this one to even consider him a HoF candidate, same with Papelbon. He's a closer now but eventually they'll probably move him in as a starter which is what he and the Sox have been wanting for the past 2 years.

With Lowell it's a toss up. He's an amazing defense 3rd baseman holding the all time highest fielding percentage for a third baseman, which isn't exactly something that can go unnoticed. If he keeps up with his surge in offense then he should be a lock. But he is 33-34 so you have to wonder how many years he has left in him. Don't be surprised if he's with another team next year as well with the Sox hesitant to give older players long term contracts. (sup Roger Clemens and Pedro Martinez)

I'm just wondering when the whole red sox nation bs is gonna die down. You act like the biggest Sox fan in the world post 2003-2004 but when asked a simple question about the team you don't know anything, forget about any question post 2003. Don't get me started on the pink hats either.

I hate going to any event in Boston and hearing a Yankees suck chant, it used to be fun but christ sakes people we beat them, we won the series it's been 3 years get over it already. Personally I'm glad the Patriots are starting to make a push for top team in Boston, maybe that'll help the damn chants die down. I don't blame NY fans for hating us for being arrogant, it's ridiculous. Also what somebody said was true, you don't see Yankee fans walking around with Jeter sucks A-Rod shirts, that's pretty much here only. If you go to a game support your damn team don't just go because you hate the other team. It's pretty sad when fans of the same team I'm a fan of make me sick, and no not every fan but the ones I just described.

    Re: Red Sox Nation

Magglio did have an amazing year. However, Posada and Lowell's team likely wouldn't be going to the playoffs if their respective teams were without them (that's what Valueable means, doesnt it ) so I'd give them more consideration. It probably wouldn't have ended up that way, but yeah.

I agree about the gold glove. More and more it seems to be awarded to players for what they've done in the past, and not newer players who post better numbers. I can understand the All-Star game lineups being popularity contests because it's decided by the fans, but isnt the gold glove awarded by baseball management? It's crazy.

Don't get me wrong, Papelbon had a great year, but with every Sox fan acting like he's god's gift to closers and bashing Rivera after a rough start, I was kind of glad to see him come down to earth a bit. I just hope Yankee fans don't do the same with Joba, though it may be a bit too late for that.

Joba's scary. Anyone that follows the Yankees closer than I do care to comment on whether or not they're actually planning on using him as a starter next year? I don't know enough about him to know if he'd be able to go 6+ innings at a time. If they let Rivera go to free agency then I don't see why they wouldn't want Chamberlain to close. That guy's a straight up beast.

    Re: Red Sox Nation

Jury's still out on that one as far as I know. I guess it will depend on what the Yankees do on the off season. Right now I imagine they'll break the bank to keep A-rod unless he chokes in October. Posada's contract is up also, with the numbers he's put up this year (both offensively and defensively) they'll work to keep him too. That doesn't leave much money left to sign a starter. I believe I speak for all Yankee fans when I say that a Joba-Rivera 7/8/9 combo is mouthwatering. Doesn't do much good if the starting pitching isn't there, however. With Clemens unlikely to return, Mussina being inconsistent and in the last year of his contract, they may be forced to use Joba as a starter and find another bridge to Rivera. Again, it depends on what offseason moves (if any) the Yankees make.

    Re: Red Sox Nation

As a Bostonian, I'm just glad the Red Sox didn't fall apart at the end of the season for once this year (although that Toronto series had me worried). Seems we passed that tradition to the Mets this year. Curse of the Pedro?

What time is that Sox rally tonight? I might try to make it if I can get back from work early enough.

The rally happened a couple hours ago. I think it started at around 3PM

Was from 4-7pm, pretty much over now, and amen Kylen. I guess Francona wanting to keep players healthy for the post season and not trying to win the division payed off.

That guy's a straight up beast.
He's starting next year no questions asked, Cash already came out and said it. But, he's gonna be on a innings cap (meaning he won't come near 200IP) He threw 97+ up into the 8th inning in the minors, so stamina isn't a problem. Honestly, the only thing that's gonna stop him from being a Verlander clone if not better is gonna be injuries. But he's built like a fucking tank so his arm isn't under a lot of stress. Mo isn't gonna be playing in another uni, ever, he'll be back, he's as important as ARod.

It's gonna be nuts seeing him Hughes, and Kennedy next year. It'll be very similar to the Oakland big three of Zito-Hudson-Mulder, but without the team whoring.
