I posted this on KI, but I wanted to get some other opinions too.

L.Ear: Beetle Earring+1
Body: Royal Squire Chainmail
Hand: Royal Squire Gauntlets(the +2 acc one)
Ring1: Woodsman Ring
Ring2: Verve Ring
Back: High Breath Mantle(seems to wear off fast; I'm just crazy)
Waist: Tilt Belt
Legs: Kampfw/e
Feet: Eisenw/e(gonna upgrade to kampf)

I like using meat too but I'm still wondering when it's time to move on to fish to lower damage taken.

Depends on what you're fighting. In many cases, fish wont actually make a noticable difference from the healer's perspective, considering that the majority of our damage mitigation comes from shield blocks nowadays. Back when I leveled PLD, it was stack vit and eat def food or gtfo. But with shield being so effective now, you may want to continue eatting DD food unless you're really getting your ass kicked.

Oh, and if I were you, I'd wear two snipermans instead of a vit ring in one slot.

For most of the time I just popped on Rice Dumplings and had at it, but there were some times that I used Boiled Crab. I was mainly asking what food to use from the 40s assuming I did the traditional caps like Soldier Crawlers in Crawler's Nest, Antica in Quicksand Caves, etc. But thanks for the advice. More would be appreciated.

switch off the verve ring for a woodsman
upgrade the pants get royal squires breeches too (+1 dex go)
upgrade hunting sword to AF1 sword
and i agree with the above poster on using meat unless you are getting your ass kicked

There's no reason to use defensive foods in XP parties, especially if you're sticking to VT/low IT mobs for the best XP/hr.

With full Sword merits and Shield merits, you can gear your PLD up just like you would your WAR. The only difference is you want to wear +Shield items like Buckler Earring. That's where your damage reduction comes from - Shield Blocks.

With the right support, you can even tank with Berserk up the entire duration, especially if you're sticking to lower level mobs. Shield is that damn strong.

If that makes you uncomfortable, you can always pop it right before Sentinel, toss Defender over top of it once Sentinel wears off, and cancel Defender before your next WS, finally canceling Berserk.

Rice Dumplings are the best attack food your PLD can use at low levels, as they have the +HP/+MP while resting, which stacks with the new and improved Signet boosts. The ACC+5 certainly doesn't hurt either.

Problem is, my second character has zero sword merits. lol. I'll be taking a break at lv50(now) to get caught up on stuff like limit break, cop, rank missions, parade gorget, etc. Here's a current list of my gear:

Another thing. Should I stick to rice dumplings or switch to defensive food from 50-55 then use bream sushi? I bring up bream sushi because I don't know exactly how evasive mobs will be. At lv55 I should have around +38 acc in gear but I don't know if that's enough to use meat with no sword merits.

Woodsman + Sattva is nice too. (don't forget +enmity gear for macro swaps, hell even a Red Sash or w/e that event one is nice)

Resentment Cape is also nice if you want to macro-swap your back piece.

Whether or not you will be able to eat meat or not depends predominantly on 2 things:

1) Difficulty of mobs. (A T-VT camp supports a meat build much better than an IT camp)

2) Whether you have a BRD or not.

Just figure it out for each XP party. Bring meat, sushi, and tacos to each xp party and figure out which will work best for it. Worse comes to worse, you can use one for the first half hour then change it up if you feel that you should.

If you have the gil, invest in Luisant gear. Also, I'm assuming you don't have your shield capped. Although the buckler earring is nice I think you might want to consider swapping it for a drone earring. You may be better off stacking AGI considering your current gear then going for the 3 extra shield skill. Since you're level 50 there's no need to have a single gear set any more. You can definitely upgrade your performance by creating different gear sets and using them appropriately. Since you're 50 and taking a break atm as well, you can also focus on getting AF out of the way.

Any PLD who wants to DD at all should get one. If you don't feel safe wearing one full time then you can equip it for WS only.
