The bottom picture is seriously how I picture the world in the future.

A world where every building are totally space uneficient, and require a lot more ressource to build than something useful? Doubt it will happen.

That said, the picture is awesome

I'd say building them inside a mountain is pretty space efficient.

Would be easier and cheaper to fill the water and build something on it if you need space that badly. The whole shape of the building is purely esthetic with the suspended bridge and all, so I doubt space is the problem in their case. Is the hill/building earthquake/tsunami/volcano proof? It's one thing to build a skyscraper on solid ground, it's another to build one on a mountain in the middle of nowhere. How do you access every section? Tunnel? Is there an highway behind those island? Based on the scenary, I would say it's very far from any city.

I can see a single 5 star hotel in such location, but your average building will never look like that (or at least, it's very unlikely)

Who said that's even Earth? It could be a random beautiful planet, a planet someone terraformed, a planet someone built out of an asteroid belt and then terraformed, etc. Space just stops being an issue if you go about it right.

Nobody want blood on their clothes when they go to works. Doesnt look like it splashed, but it's not the kind of thing you can analyze when everything happen 1 sec before the collision.
