That was MMS in a nutshell during the first few years of UFC. Go find some old videos.

I've seen the first 10 or so UFC events a long time ago, but I was thinking more about a big Hollywood action movie where there is a big build up to a fight, and instead of a cool fight scene the 2 people start fighting with Jiu Jitsu.

The real martial arts masters are the guys living in squalor in the middle of buttfuck nowhere asialand. You can see a few of them on that History channel show, Human Weapon. Those hollywood guys are pretty amazing, but I'd like to see them break a 6 inch board with their fingertips, or snap a Louisville slugger in two with their wrist.

I am partial to Jet Li myself. Oh, and Bruce Lee doesnt count as he is the obvious #1.
    Steven Seagal, actually.

He was the first foreigner to ever operate/own a dojo in Japan, and served as a professional bodyguard in Hollywood for years before getting into movies. However, much like Dolph Lundgren (competed in the World Open while only a green belt) and Chuck Norris (too many to list), their horrible acting careers overshadowed their incredible martial arts accomplishments from back in the day.

I actually put van damme and siegal in there as jokes, so needless to say i am extremely surprised about his legitimacy. And how could I forget to add chuck to the list? Hes the baddest badass of em all.

thomson didnt get knocked out. he starts to turn to pull guard, but takes like 10 more punches on the ground, then the fight got stopped. and he even sits up like immediately afterwards

edit: video if anyone wants to see the result of the kick http://youtube.com/watch?v=oW-Ra7Cn5Wg

thats not pulling guard. for all intents and purposes he was knocked out, he barely sits up and you can see a dazed expression on his face.

I met Norris, briefly, and honestly didn't even realize it was him til like 3 mins later.

I've seen a few records of his fights, and he's actually pioneered a lot of karate things that I've been taught in my 12yrs of practicing.

Jet Li is (apparently) so fast, if he doesn't slow down, video-cameras don't catch enough frames of him doing stuff, if slowed down it looks like a strobe light fight.

And while I can appreciate what Steagal did as a martial artist, any guy that hits other dudes in the crotch repeatedly is pretty fuckin lame (speaking of his movies).

What came to mind when thinking of how fast Jet Li is.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QfvdPUZ1Ccg

Kiss of the Dragon where he defends himself with two police clubs vs 3 people swinging at him without pause. Skip to 1:15 to see what I'm talking about.

It was impressive until I realized all 3 guys were repeating the same hit over and over in the most uneficient way. Not saying Jet Li is bad or anything, he is still amazing, but the scenes kinda look funny when you watch those dude.
