I went with 4 people just because we were bored and 4 people = 4 chances to pop. It was extremely easy, and I would guess a decently equiped level 75 character could solo it. Just watch out for Imp or Undead agro if you take more than a few minutes to kill it. We had a merit party not too far behind us, so the area was cleared the entire time.

Ravin Raven can apparently drop items too, perhaps the cape is a direct drop off the NM as aopposed to a reward? Guess I might find out next week...

Just fought it now, I was PLD75 and I have to say, it's deffinately the weakest mob in ToAU zones. Easily solable at 75.

i thought Ancient Bombs would drop flame bracers too, but i think they were added in a different update. I'm not sure about Skanda boots, i guess it would all depend on what almighty apkallu drops

Doesn't Almighty Apkallu drop Sanguine Sword or something?

Sanguine Sword was said by a bunch of people to drop from the assault: Blitzkrieg... thats not to say Apkallu doesn't drop it, but i've never seen any concrete evidence of people actually popping Almighty Apkallu, so idk.

Then how do people know it pops on the Whitegate->Nashmau ferry when the AC is gone? Or something like that.

As far as I know that pop condition is not 100% confirmed, I've camped several times when AC is gone and have never seen it pop myself, and I've never seen a SS of the NM.

Sanguine Sword does indeed come from Blitzkrieg

I have never seen proof that Almighty Apkallu drops anything, or pops only when the AC is gone, the only reason we know it exists is that it's found in the .DATs for "Silver Sea Route to Al Zahbi"

I killed Ravin Raven like an hour ago, no drop off the NM, checked the Logging Point again and then went back to Totoroon. He said something along the lines of finishing the quest, and the ten-note quest-victory theme played as if I had completed it, but I got no ??? Box.

This is correct as of my current understanding.

When you go to harvest one of three things happen as you get the 'quest message' on your first logging attempt:

- Find a ??? Box in the tree.
- Find nothing, and Ravin Raven spawns claimed on the person logging. Once killed, can drop items. Currently, Only Elm Log is confirmed as a drop.
- Find a 'normal' item in the tree. Currently, sheet of parchment is confirmed item. I'm sure there are more...


So, the question remains does the cape come from this quest, and if so how. The four things I can think of are:

- Cape might come from a successful logging from the tree with no NM spawn.
- Cape might come from ??? Box.
- Cape might drop off of Ravin Raven NM.
- Cape might be stolen from Ravin Raven NM.

I'll be trying it again tonight when I have some free time to make sure the quest is not repeatable once per game day, or once per real day. (Will also be dragging other people to do it reguardless...)

Almighty Apkallu dropping the cape makes the most sense to me too, seeing as they were added in the same update, and a regular NM dropping the same item as an assault's unique ??? item departs from the pattern of every other assault appraisal reward.

If people do bother to ask SE a question at one of the comming events, and it doesn't happen to be yet another AV disappointment, might I suggest Almighty Apkallu since Ravin Raven is currently off FFXI's Most Wanted List...

So three items are unaccounted for:

Flame Bracers
Birdman Cape
Skanda Boots

And only 1 NM remains unaccounted for. Ravin Raven still may drop the Birdman Cape, though with at least 10(?)+ documented kills and no drop, either it's Hauteclaire-rare or doesn't drop at all.

Let's hope it DOES drop the item but if not, that leaves three items which origins we do not know, and only one NM that we don't know how to spawn. <_>

Since the Ravin Raven thing got figured out pretty quick, can just make this thread about Almighty Apkallu. Maybe someone will saunter in like that Caspin guy and make it easy on all of us so we can ask SE about Ebon Panels and unused Strange Apparatuses instead.

Okay but slightly related, didn't Russta kill Almighty Apkallu back over a year ago, or was that a woosh of such a magnitude that its effects are still being felt today?

I thought about this for a few minutes, and I want to thank everyone involved in this thread and everyone who helped me ingame to manage to collect information on this NM. This is probably the most fun I have had ingame in about two months. A nice break from the usual grind, and a nice distraction until the next expansion comes out.


Tiny side note: Anyone want to attempt Almighty Apkallu as the next target NM? Possibly having to convince a server to lose Beseiged to test pop conditions could suck big time. Might need to get SE to make official comment on pop conditions, since it's quite possible they might never come to pass on certain servers, and that's pretty lame...

I've heard so many stories about this thing popping, but I've never actually seen it myself. On Fairy, Starlink got a Sanguine Sword and told everyone that it dropped from Almighty Apkallu when the AC was gone. I believe that was the first, original, report.

Since that, tons of PLDs (myself and a good friend of mine included) rode the boat endlessly to try to get it spawn. We never saw it.

Once, we even had competition, and it was from Dracu - a PLD in Cognatus with an Aegis. We didn't see a pop, but later after we had left, Dracu said that it popped and he started fighting it, but the boat docked before he could kill it. Now, that's probably bullshit (at that point I still believed Starlink so I. . uh, took it for granite that it was true), but that's all of the eye-witness accounts I've heard.

Since then, I've never heard of a serious report of it spawning, or seen a screenshot. If I were to assume anything about the pop of it, I would assume that it's a very rare pop condition based on the Apkallu hate system, which definitely exists and affects many aspects of Apkallu. Unfortunately, though, it's very hard to determine if this is true because it's almost impossible to test Apkallu - and if by some chance that you had enough hate to pop it, or whatever, it'd probably tear you to shreds anyway because it's safe to assume that Almighty Apkallu has the same bonuses that normal Apkallu gain against people who have increased hate on them.

Yeah, but that would still prove it exists, so that you could go back and kill it with more people, if you identified the pop condition.

When apkallu become semi invincible, is this due to defense and magic defense, or direct physical/magic damage -%? If it was the former, you would still be able to hit them with breath attacks, 1k needles, mijin galkure, etc. for full damage, and I imagine wheeling thrust would be decent to. DoT probably still does full damage.
