Wow, I've actually never heard of doing this lol. I'm sure it's done but the pure logistics of getting a buyer, settling price, trading the gil and lotting the item seems a bit much to do in 5 minutes, but I can see how it could be done I guess.

I've done it before, just minus the money part. We get an item no one can use, we ask in LS if anyone wants it, someone warps back to Whitegate, lots, and they take it.

All you have to do to sell it is just add in a gil trade somewhere, and perhaps /shout instead of ask in LS.

First one that's available for sale is probably going to go in the neighbourhood of 1-2m to someone who sucks with money and has way too much of it.

we were shouting 500k on it (this was awhile ago, as comparison this was about 100k less than a typical haubergeon on our server at the time) in retrospect I think this was too much; especially now that I hear a pld say they'd value it at about 200k lol.

that cape is definitely a mil+ piece, if not more, given the rarity. (esp. the first couple)

I'm thinking it's more likely that it pops with MAXXED apkallu hate. If it was 0 hate then somebody would have seen it by now but NOBODY gets maxxed apkallu hate so that would explain why we never see it.

I was in fact refering to the sword, and not the cape.

I can see the first cape going for probably something closer to 5M. It's FAR better than a Jester's +1, and I see people paying millions of gil for less of a stat increase in a NQ/HQ situation. Combined with assumed rarity and the fact it can always be resold if needed, this just boosts its value. Assuming someone finds out how to get the cape (pretend all the work we do here means nothing) and never let's the secret out, how much would people you know dish out for this years hot fashion item? Remember the Parade Gorget? I could imagine PLDs back then killing each other over the privledge of owning that neck piece, even if it was at an outrageous price (since noone knew how to get it and it was such a huge deal).

Some japanese websites display Almighty Apkallu drops Skanda Boots, but that's almost certainly speculation and not fact. It would be far more fitting imo for it to drop the cape. I'm a little confused, are the Birdman Cape, Flame Bracers, and Skanda Boots all unknown how to obtain? If so you might want to consider simply renaming the thread for just those items. That way it can encompass all three, any and all strange ideas that might be brought up to find them.

Possibilities I'd consider:
Award for finishing all four zones in the qiqirns quest.
Award for finishing all three zones in the Art of War quest.
Appraised from a ???Box from either quest (doubtful since it would probably use the proper ??? specific item instead of a box).
Possible drop from Almighty Apkallu.
Possible appraisal from some assault that is hardly ever completed.

Not necessarily, I don't know many people that have never killed an Apkallu. Not to mention, they'd have to be on a boat full of people with no hate, or alone, and it still wouldn't be a 100% pop.

I'm pretty sure that the Apkallu on the other ship (towards Nashmau) pop at the very end of the trip, do the ones otw to Al Zhabi pop near the beginning? Perhaps giving one enough time to pop and kill Almighty Apkallu before the ship docks if it spawns when one is defeated or something.

It would likely be an LC or C assault as those were the two added in that update, and all we'd really need to know is if anyone had ever got a ??? cape from one of them (or for that matter a ??? hands or ??? feet for the other 2 unknown items).

Not necessarily, I don't know many people that have never killed an Apkallu. Not to mention, they'd have to be on a boat full of people with no hate, or alone, and it still wouldn't be a 100% pop.

Except, considering how difficult it becomes to kill apkallu once you get high apkallu hate, I'm sure even LESS people have gotten maxxed hate.

I've done several of the LC and C assaults multiple times and haven't seen a ??? cape from any of them yet (mostly ??? sash actually) but I'll start paying closer attention.

likely candidates for not getting repeated are pretty numerous in there - LC and C are mostly puzzle assaults and not battle assaults.
