I love hunting NM's. Let's keep this thread going and maybe someone can ask SE about it at the Fan Festival.

Isn't this the best cape for brds? And possibly top 4 cape for whm's?

So, what's the least traveled place in the mire? I'm thinking maybe near zone #5 to the Arrapago Reef on FFXI Atlas, or maybe one of the island areas?
Unless it was a Rose Garden type mob, I would be astonished if it was a spawn from a mob near the Nashmau zonelines. Since noone has apparently seen or killed it yet, it has to be in a more remote area, or just not in the game entirely.
But yeah, I know a few BRDs out there that wouldn't mind losing 1 CHR for 30MP and Resist Paralyze...
Seems kinda weird that after the amount of time that this NM has been out, no one has figured out how to pop it yet. Although, I haven't heard of many people trying to pop it really. It's a pretty good cape too. I tried a bunch of things a long time ago when it was released but didn't have any luck. It can't simply be a lottery pop off some mob, even one that people don't fight; it would be popped by now. It may have something to do with Besieged like someone said... did anyone ever figure out what those Engraved Tablets or w/e is over by Khimaira?
It's the best slot saver for BRDs, yeah. I would def kill for one lol. 1CHR is not ganna make or break anything, but 30mp and resist paralyze could be soooo helpful.Originally Posted by vagus
Well besides the inaccessible island, between #4 and #5 exit to arrapago is probably the least traveled like you say. I've never even been on the upper part from #5 with the dropoff.Originally Posted by Seraph

I think that it would somehow involve the birds or the areas they are in, maybe one of them is a place holder and can't die. It's also possible that one of the ??? is used for more than one quest, has every single ToAU quest been accounted for?Originally Posted by Tricen
So, does anyone know how to get there easily? Can we take some direct route through the reef from the Runic Portal? I admit, I generally never venture into the reef unless it's necessary. (Runic Portal Activation, Unlocking PUP and COR).Originally Posted by fantasticdan
I have been to the ledge in the mire after the dropoff near reef zone #4, but I'd almost bet money that many others have done so too exploring, so I'd guess a good starting spot is on top of the ledge near zone #5.
I'm stuck at work, any volunteers?

1) This spot is 3 layers, similar to the Greater Colibri spot in Bhaf. Exit #5 of Arrapago is near Medusa and requires 1 Lamia Fang Key to get through. The top layer has 2-3 Lamia, and 3-4 Qutrub. I've taken a few friends here about a year ago, and we skilled up for like an hour, we killed each mob maybe 3-4 times each and no pop. I don't think that was enough to rule out a lottery of those... I've yet to go back though. The layer just below that spot has 5-6 Skeletons, and 1 Lamia. The other week, my friend and I duo'd our blm here for about 10k exp. We killed each mob about 10 times... I would say thats enough kill to rule out that those mobs would be placeholders. The lowest layer, you don't need to go through #5 for. It's the zone north of "The Cutter"/Ashu Talif. It has 3 Fomors, which I've killed at least 10 times each. I would also rule those out of placeholders.
2) This area has several Qutrub and Lamia. Over the course of the last year, I have seen people exp'ing on these mobs, but I believe that since Qutrub take a little bit longer than the avg exp mob to kill, they're 5min repops, and theres like 10-15 of them here... I doubt people have gone through every Qutrub here enough times to rule out a lottery of them. There's also a few more further south, but theres no real safe spot to camp, so I doubt people have touched these very often.
3) This is a very popular Fomor camp, I know many people, and I myself have camped here several times. So this rules it out being a Fomor lottery.
4) The area outside the staging point. I've seen a few parties here before, but once again, I think Qutrub pop too fast, die too slow, and there's too many to see if people have killed all of them reliably enough to rule out a lottery.
Regarding the Bhoots: I've personally killed the southern-most one, and the eastern-most one several times. No pop. The Bhoot near #2 is in the middle of tons of mobs (that I think have been untouched), I doubt this one has been killed, possibly ever.
Those Bhoots duo-able with like, a PLD/NIN and a BRD? Like, how difficult are they comparable to imps or other such mobs in the area? If they aren't too hard I can always do the good old super train to the zoneline with W. legs and have the BRD hold the Bhoot with Lullaby until I can zone back in...Originally Posted by Pergo

Or it's from that same ??? as Jazaraat.
I've killed the ulli placeholder 10 times, and even had the steam cleaner detector summon 5 times twice, and haven't seen the NM. Same for various other NMs.Originally Posted by Pergo

I agree... I was the first person to pop Big Bomb on Carbuncle (with other people of course).... and it still took like 3-4 hours. This would assume the window was wideeeeeee open, as it's never popped before, and it still took that long. The thing I took into consideration is that Big Bomb's placeholders were 16min pops, and these were 5... so ultimately it was about the same amount of placeholders. Sky imo is a little weird with it's definition of lottery pop, especially Ulli and sometimes SC. But you're right, 10 isn't enough sample size to "rule out" anything. I left after 10-ish of each mob because it felt like it wasn't going to pop, but people should definetly check it out.Originally Posted by Khamsin
Are there any weather patterns in Caedavre similar to Zitah? Something like, double lightning every 4 rl weeks or something?
This isnt' another mob that pops whilst the relevant besieged is on?
I'm also thinking about the Resist Paralyze stat. Seems odd for a drop off of a bird. Undead are famous for Paralyze, so maybe the Bhoots or other undead in the area are prime possibilities for a PH. Ghosts fly.....like birds......or something?

Maybe it's only a lottery under certain weather? Dark maybe?
Could also be a cor mob by looking at the resist paralyze which leads me to think of a Fomor. But thats just more speculation. <.<
It might be a chigoe nm too but the name would make no sense then. Could be another mistranslation. ._.
Anyone else wonder why they haven't changed regen to regain yet?
Resist Paralyze is a DRK and a COR trait.
The skeletons in the zone are DRK, DRG, BLM.
Theres also water and dark weather in Caedarva, I can't recall if any weather was around when killing the placeholder.
You could... but Bhoots use Perdition, which is easy to stun, yet impossible to outrun. Could use the BRD to Lullaby-stun, but if he fails, you're dead.Originally Posted by Seraph
