Back to the subject of the actual thread:

Traded Pineapple, got quest, chopped a tree near the Periqia SP and got the "You sense you're about to discover something" or whatever it says, and got a HQ Crab Shell.

The Qiqirn says something like, "Maybe someone already got it, hmmm?" after he tells you to go to the Mire. Does he say this all the time as part of his regular dialog, or is it possible that the Cape is a reward that only one person can get a week(hour, day? you can only accept it once a week, so...)?

(That is, assuming you CAN get it from this quest, or the mob, or something)

I'm going to sound like a little bitch, but let's try to focus on what we can improve.

We know vandalizing wiki is a cheap thrill (long live Mandragora King), but really it's just going to cause animosity and probably retaliation, and we've been hit on BGwiki several times and it's a pain in the ass.

We can complain all day that FFXIclopedia takes this or that, but in the end, they'll take it with our consent, or they'll take it without it. However reasonable the mods may be, there are tens of thousands of people editing that thing, so there's no way every one of them is going to care about infringing on our stuff.

So, looking at Ravin Raven, I see that they've put a [Source] tag next to Ravin Raven's pop conditions. I think that's something we should encourage. Talking to Chrisjander, they say that if they take facts from other forums, they will source them, and have done so many times in the past to Alla or KI.

Of course, there will be times (especially with a new expansion coming) where our information will not be sourced. So what do you do? Just go in and source it. Don't erase the page, don't add nekkid pictures. If you do, you'll just get banned and put the admins at FFXIclopedia in a bad mood so when you do request a source they'll be more inclined to tell you to gtfo. Seriously, this new expansion is going to be a clutser-f if we don't find a reasonable way to share information. Every new discovery will incite another flame thread.

As for the image, I don't know what to tell you. The same thing applies though, if you go charging in yelling the admins are going to get defensive and not want to work with you. It's a problem of the internet; you put something up and instantly it's everywhere. If you want to keep your work off of Wikia, let's standardize a BG watermark. Pictures with PCs or branded images fall below their acceptable standards and either aren't posted, or marked for deletion. This includes Ravin Raven, which is going to be replaced as soon as another picture comes in. I've been told that BG images will not be "cropped" by wikia staff to cheat either. Again, if one of their users violates this, take it down, leave a request in discussion, and the staff will be more inclined to work with you.

We can't win all these battles, but we can have things our way if we get creative about it. It's like that Prisoner's Dilemma thing. If both parties give a little they both get what they want. If both parties take for themselves, everyone loses. It involved boxes or something.

As troublesome as it may be, putting BG Wiki watermarks on images may be about the only way to protect the info from GreedyWiki in their quest to try and stop the inevitability of falling behind BG Wiki on info.
