You can get a program that lists what the item icon is.

Come to think of it, there's a Qutrub NM in Besieged that has a similar naming structure. Anyone with a .DAT reader who can check the lists for the Undead Swarm?

Although if it was a Qutrub NM, you'd think it'd have popped by now.

Yeah, the .dat placement is really weird. Peallaidh is a lotto off of sheep I think, and Zikko pops when you run through a swamp near the Ashu Talif zone. Then Caedarva Toad is for PUP AF1 and Jazaraat is for mission 15 or whichever. Lamia No.27 and Moshdahn are for a quest which was added in a later update IIRC. So just by .dat placement I'm inclined to believe Ravin Raven's a quest/mission NM except that all of those have been accounted for (and Birdman Cape hasn't).

I dont think i've seen any taru or galkas.
What about the BST, PLD, DRG, THF fomors in ToAU?
    THF hath been said
    BST = Hume
    PLD = Elvaan
DRG = I havent seen any?
    Wajaom Fomors:
    Hume: THF, BST, BRD
    Elvaan: PLD

    Ashu Talif Fomors:
    Hume: MNK, RNG
    Elvaan: COR
    Mithra: RDM

    Fallen Imperial Fomors:
    Hume: WAR, DRK, BLM

@Kyreth: You're thinking of Pining Abazohn, I think.

Yep. Just saw him the first time in passing on a Besieged last night, couldn't remember the name.

    Re: Ravin Raven

There's usually that circle area filled with bones and such that's near the path to the cutter (from the Dvucca Isle Staging Point). I never see people do much there.

People have XPed heavily on the fomors in the area so if it popped there it probably would have been confirmed by now.

Someone mentioned that it's not on Nyzul Khimaira Isle? If there's a possibility, I know that no one ventures past the Khimaira area or to the west basically because it's suicide. So that could be another possibility.

If Raven Ravin was a quest, wouldn't you see an "Obtained: Birdmans cape" or something in the dats?

No, every zone just has a generic
    Obtained: ?Unknown Parameter (Type: 80) 1??Unknown Parameter (Type: 81) 1??Unknown Parameter (Type: 82) 1??Item Parameter 0?.?Prompt?
in it (along with one for gil and one for key items)

    Lame.

Wait, not in as obtained from lotting it and it dropping from the NM, but like when you beat CoP it says in chatlog Obtained: ring.

    Re: Ravin Raven

the organization isn't really that surprising, tbh. look at things like shikigami. he always appears at the bottom of widescan b/c he was added later and SE always appends new mobs to the bottom of the list. this is in opposition to things like LL or VE who appear midway down the list b/c they were in the original dat files for the zone and were placed specifically at the time of creation. SE just dumped the names of all of the mobs at the end of the file and called it done, just like they always do.

Right, that's what that is. I don't pretend to understand how server-client communication works, but I'd imagine it's something like, if you are to get 5 gold coins for the quest, the server tells your computer to pull that line in dialog, the item # for imp. gold coins, one of those parameters is probably for the number 5? and I don't know what the others are, maybe telling it to use the plural name or something? Anyhow, then

    Obtained: ?Unknown Parameter (Type: 80) 1??Unknown Parameter (Type: 81) 1??Unknown Parameter (Type: 82) 1??Item Parameter 0?.?Prompt?

    becomes

    Obtained: 5 Imperial gold pieces.

Or whatever. Hope I'm not totally wrong on this but that's my understanding anyway.

    Re: Ravin Raven

I can account that all the fomors in Caedarva (even the ones south of the cutter zone) have been killed several several times.

As for mythology, I completely left out what I was going to say in the OP. Even though mythology rarely means anything in ffxi (see: let's read the bible and find out how to kill AV), I've looked up quite a bit about Ravin and Raven, and Birdman. As is already stated, Ravin is the same meaning and Raven. SE likes to play with words. Raven being birds of prey, you would think there's a connection to low HP, or maybe being by the graveyard.

I've also read that Ravens actually eat baby Murre and Murre eggs. Maybe if you get a Murre to low HP, Ravin Raven pops? Idk, just ridiculous speculation lol.

I've also read a myth about ravens once fell into a swamp and rise up as men... Birdmen... once again nonsense, but maybe killing Birds over the swamps.

Maybe dragging that one lone bird near the Imp/Fly camp and dragging it into that swamp there?

Just kinda reaffirms my woe that there are many different things to try.

    It's simple. Bird+Man = Imp.

    Re: Ravin Raven

I think it's safe to rule out a Rose Garden condition unless it happens to be an exp mob. 75% of the mobs out in the Mire go untouched for days.

As for Hediva Isle(khim) spawn, I doubt it again. Plenty of people exp all across that island. I have literally run around the island as a solo BLU killing Imps as they poped, while JP exp parties strolled through Flayers and such. So plenty of people have cleared the entirety of Hediva. Yes, I am even talking about people camping by the Khim tunnel, the engraved tablet area and the other tunnel across from Khim. I've seen times where there were 4-5 parties on that island over by Khim.

Maybe people should try sending a bug report about it and see if SE just hasn't notcied they screwed it up or something.

Otherwise, it's just in some obscure spot of some mob nobody kills. Plenty of mobs like that in the mire though. Nobody touches much unless it's an xp mob or they are farming. Maybe some ghosts pop over by the graveyard at night, or where the trees are on that side? I haven't been over there much. The Bhoot/Undead ideas seem pretty good, idk many people who care to flirt with Perdition for too long.

    So how about...

rav·in /?ræv?n/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[rav-in] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–verb (used without object), verb (used with object), noun
    raven2.

rav·en2 /?ræv?n/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[rav-uhn] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–verb (used without object) 1. to seek plunder or prey.
    2. to eat or feed voraciously or greedily: to raven like an animal.

    5. to devour voraciously.
    –noun 6. rapine; robbery.
    7. plunder or prey.

    Also, ravin.
This would give us our verb for the first word, and then either of these for the noun on the second word:

ra·ven1 /?re?v?n/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[rey-vuhn] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–noun 1. any of several large, corvine birds having lustrous, black plumage and a loud, harsh call, esp. Corvus corax, of the New and Old Worlds.
    2. the divine culture hero and trickster of the North Pacific Coast Indians.
    3. (initial capital letter) Astronomy. the constellation Corvus.
–adjective 4. lustrous black: raven locks of hair.
    or

    rav·in also rav·en (r?v'?n) Pronunciation Key
    n.
    Voracity; rapaciousness.

Though, come to think of it, most of those NMs have a pattern of [adjective] [noun], not [verb] [noun].

Could also be similar to the ghost theme of Punctured Percy, Smothered Schmidt, etc.
