    Tourist Suggestions

I'm in California for a couple of weeks and looking for some suggestions as far as places to visit. I'm staying in the Camp Pendleton area, which is a pretty short drive from San Diego, so anything around there is preferable. I have a few of the more obvious tourist suggestions like the San Diego Zoo and such, but I'd like to hear about any places that any of you have visited and enjoyed. Restaurant suggestions also welcome.

I was down there(SD) a few weeks ago for the Red Bull Air Race, a friend took us to a place called Dick's Last Stand. I wont say anything but the place is worth checking out. Don't google it. You gotta find out on your own. Also, the view from the Coronado Bridge @ night is pretty spectacular(especially when theres a game going on @ Petco park). Enjoy your stay in CA :D !

If you're over 21, you should take the chance while being here and go to On Broadway, the best night club here in SD. Aubergine is also nice, but it's smaller. If you want to go to a nice, quiet and clean beach, try Torrey Pines beach, which is a bit more north. PB is always nice, too. There's also Viejas Casino and Julian town, which is known for its amazing apple pies and nature, but it's probably a little cold up there right now.

For restaurants, I would suggest Otta's sushi. It's basically the best Japanese restaurant in San Diego, but it's kinda expensive. It's located in Mission Bay. There are also a few good restaurants in downtown, Rei De Gado is one of my favorite, it's Brazilian BBQ style, you pay around 40 bucks and eat all the meat you want, it's pretty damn good. If you wanna eat GOOD pizza, there's a place on Fifth Ave called Gaslamp Pizza, it's small but their pizza is fucking amazing.

That's all I can think of right now, have fun in SD!

Thanks for the suggestions, guys! Just for a little background, my husband and I are both here (and over 21) for the next week and a half or so. He loves sushi, so we'll check out Otta's sushi place. By the way -- any suggestions for people who are relatively new to sushi and not particularly fond of the stronger fishy tastes? Someone suggested trying some of the different hand rolls, but I don't even know where to begin with those. I enjoyed the octopus a lot and one of the crab sushi things too, but for the most part the proper fish were pretty overpowering and almost all alike to me.

I shudder to think about going to "On Broadway" unless ur on the VIP list hehe....
um... There is the Zoo, Sea World (lol), Lego land!!!!... and Wild Animal Park...
I would reccomend "Balboa Park" (Great museum hub) as u could spend a day there if ur not from the area. Tons of museums and u can catch the "Dead Sea Scroll" exhibit atm before it leaves town. There is a great restaurant called "Prada" in Balboa Park also that u gotta go to while there (get the Alaskan /Eskimo thingy while there. Forgot the name but if u say its the desert that looks like a porcupine they will know exactly what ur talking about... mmmm). For restaurants I'd reccomend "Laurel" (awsome middle eastern food but comes at a price) and "Taste of Tai" in Hillcrest. Both great places.
For Sushi dishes u can try "Catterpillar roll or Soft Shell Crab roll"

Not sure if you and your husband are into this type of things, but there is an airshow in Miramar this coming up weekend.

As far as a spot to eat, I'd recommend the Bali Hai. MMmm. It's on Shelter Island, very nice view of Downtown from there.

Other than that, everyone had really good suggestions Enjoy the stay!

The Red Bull Air Race was about two weeks ago. This airshow is something unrelated to it. I think I'll head down there just to see it.

If you're into good eats, the Gaslamp district in downtown SD is great.

I'd also recomend crossing the border and hanging out in Rosarito for a few days. The water is starting to get a bit cold but the ocean is always nice around there.

There are various drum circles but the best, and imo the only one worth going to (@ Black's Beach) has been discontinued since May.

In La Jolla Cove (downtown La Jolla) I'd reccomend the Brewhouse. They have great food and excellent beer.

Finishing off, Extraordinary Desserts in SD is a must visit. A bit pricy but worth it.
