I've tried to hop onto the Celtics bandwagon this year, but I simply can't do it.

The Patriots are just flat-out boring. Next week will be a great game, but after that they'll go back to games that I can turn off at half-time.

    Hockey... lolBruins.

Fixed. We all know baseball and football are the only sports!

Yeah I left the bar in the middle of the third quarter. It was boring as fuck. The two redskins fans at the bar left before halftime lol......

That is fucking awesome. All these young Sox players make me so excited for years to come. Ellsbury could have easily been MVP for world series in his rookie year, and that 9th inning catch... phew...

nice to see papi getting choked up.. they love winning for boston and being sox

and... damn it's going to be boring without sox playoff games to watch everyday now..

    1) 3B - Keeping Lowell should be the top choice, obviously. A-rod wants too much money over too many years, the rest of the 3B free agent pool is very weak this year. The Sox farm system is about as light on 3B as it is in any other position besides Catcher. Not signing Lowell could potentially lead to moving Youkilis back to 3B, and signing someone for 1B. Certainly not the most favorable option.
They better be prepared to shell out big bucks if they want him to stay. Philly has made no secret they want him and are prepared to pay him handsomely, and Lowell said he is interested in playing there too. Not saying he won't resign (which he probably will) but its gonna cost you.

The Sox have a lot of money coming off the books this year. Schilling's money, Lowell, Clement, Gagne, Renteria if I'm not mistaken, just to name a few. For a team with as large a payroll as the Sox have, they have a handful of guys making small money. Youk, Ellsbury, Pedroia, Papelbon, Delcarmen, Okajima tally up to less than $5mil iirc. Lowell will undoubtedly get a nice raise, but I doubt it would price him out of Boston. I wouldn't be shocked to see him move to Philly or Anaheim, but at the same time I would be a little disappointed.

The Yankees are in the market for a 3rd baseman now too With their bottomless pocketbooks, who knows?

But I honestly do not think Lowell will go, the Sox would be out of their minds not to resign him. He plays a great 3B, WS MVP, fits in perfectly, what more could you want? I'd bet the house on Lowell staying in Boston unless the Yankees offer him a rediculously lucrative contract.

Braves traded Edgar for some OF prospect and Jurgens (Pitcher) from Detroit. =[ I'm very unhappy right now.

What happened with Carlos Guillen? I thought he signed a 4yr/$48mil extension earlier this year with a no-trade clause. Did I miss something there?

Renteria's contract is good through next season with an $11mil club option for 2009. He's going to bring in $10mil in 2008. The Sox were paying $8mil a year to Atlanta on that contract for the past two seasons. I wonder how his trade will effect the monetary situation there. If the Sox pay out $8mil this year to the Tigers, it would stand to reason that they would also pay $3mil of the $11mil should Detroit pick up the '09 option.

Who all in Boston is going to the parade? I think my work is letting everyone take a long lunch to go and watch. I work on Summer st. so I'll probably just walk to park st.

Any takers on making a group of some sorts? We could make stupid ass "/bg/ <3s Papelbon!!!8975#$@%^#$%@35" signs or "Mike Lowell, MVP of the forums!"

Guillen is still gonna be there, but play 1B. Renteria will probably bat first or second, probably first. It would give Granderson more RBI chances, especially if Edgar puts up the same numbers as he did in Atlanta.

As far as the money issues, I have no clue what's going to go on there. I'm still upset with the trade and I think the new GM is making a big mistake. Our record was really shitty without Edgar in the lineup. I know we have Yunel Escobar, but he's still too young. Ugh. D:

I'm not shocked the Red Sox won. They were simply the better team. I only hope my Yankees can take a lesson from that book and STOP PAYING FOR OVERPRICED TALENT. Maybe now with Joe gone, the Yankees can start winning on good players not the price of some country's GNP.

P.S A-Rod is one greedy a$$. He has the talent but wow, $30 million/yr? Uh huh....

He only made those terms because Torre was canned.

I highly doubt Boston would pick him up due to the Drama factor, and Francona hates drama.

A Rod will probably be picked up by the Marlins or Tampa Bay.

He's also concerned that several others aren't comming back.

Escobar may be young, but that kid shows a lot of potential. At AAA he hit .333/.379/.456 compared to .326/.385/.451 with the Braves this year. Both splits are significantly above his '06 season in AA.

What ever happened to that Elvis Andrus kid? I remember hearing about the Braves being pretty high on that kid a year or so ago as a potential Renteria replacement.

To be honest, I have no clue what happened with him. Maybe Escobar just passed him as far as the potential goes. I have no problems with Escobar being Edgar's replacement, but I just didn't think he was ready. I guess what he went through this year proved that he could handle the starting job. Now we need to replace Kelly Johnson at 2B, because I swear to god he can't catch a ball backhanded to save his life. It seemed as he cost us a few games down the stretch with his errors, and we can't have that.

As far as Escobar's numbers, it's easier for him to do some better as far as hitting with runners in scoring position, on base percentage and all that since there are more quality players on a MLB team D: (duh, I know.) I'm just saying.. I don't understand where the trade came from.

If A-Rod actually cared about winning he'd take a lot less money and free that up for whatever team signs him to actually build a team around him. Seriously, who the hell needs $300 million?
