Yeah I know one of the general managers, but she normally works day shift. I need to call her before I go out there next time and only have a 10 dollar tab.Originally Posted by jmcgarrell

Oh yeah, fucking Gagne.
Fix'd it a little for you.Originally Posted by Kylen
As bad as Gagne is, what would you have done in the 11th the other night? You've got 4 options:
1) Gagne
2) Lopez
3) Lester
4) Wakefield, and start Beckett on short rest in game 4
Obviously, option 1 didn't work out, and option 4 is more of a joke than anything. Do you want to bring in a recently shaky Lopez? Do you want to have John Lester's first ever relief appearance be in a tie ALCS game in the 11th inning? Honestly, I think Gagne was the best of the remaining options, and it clearly didn't work out. I don't, however, think that the result would have been any different taking options 2 or 3.
How about the top of the 11th? How come Ortiz, Ramirez, and Lowell don't get any crap for looking bad against Mastny? Three of the best hitters in the league against one of the weaker member of the Cleveland bullpen should have been able to get something done.
Personally, I think (and have thought this since the ALDS roster was announced) that Julian Tavarez deserves a spot on the playoff roster. Is he a lights-out pitcher? Not by any means. Does he have a fair amount of postseason experience? Absolutely. Does he give you a better chance than Gagne and/or Lester from the bullpen? In my opinion, yes he does.
I think most of the blame for that game rests on the front office for not putting together the best roster they could, not for Francona using what was available to him. Gagne shouldn't have even had the chance to fail, because he shouldn't have been there in the first place. Of course, had the offense done it's job then it wouldn't have mattered either. Basically, there's a lot of places to put the blame, and very few of them have glasses and goofy hair.
i recall something similar being said last year when the cardinals fought there way into the world series then steam rolled the tigers. right now honestly I don't see any team beating the rockies the way they are going.Originally Posted by Viq
Last year's Cardinals were an anomoly. I'm at work so I can't double-check, but I think they had the lowest win total of any World Series winning team. That was Detroit's title to win, and they blew it.
Westbrook looked pretty good pitching out of the hole his defense put him in during the second. Go Tribe!
Westbrook pitched great. Indians win 4-2. Gogo Tribe.
At this point, I think it would be crazy for Boston NOT to pitch Beckett in game 4. They can't afford to go down 3-1 and expect to win, and I personally don't have faith in Wakefield to get the job done.
Westbrook's pitching was solid, but he got a lot of help from the Boston bats. Strikes at the knees weren't being called, but the Boston lineup kept hitting groundballs on those pitches. Their lineup is built to be disciplined and patient, yet tonight they were neither. Westbrook kept doing his thing and wasn't forced to make the adjustments to the strike zone that Cleveland's batters forced Matsuzaka to make. Boston got outplayed and took a deserving loss as a result.
Wakefield, I don't really know what to think about him right now. His starts prior to getting hurt were not good at all, and he hasn't pitched in a game in a long time. He does, however, have a good amount of postseason experience. Unfortunately, his postseason appearances have been shaky at best. He pitched well with the Pirates in '92, and he pitched well during the 2003 playoffs, aside from the unfortunate walk-off by Aaron Boone (seriously, Aaron Boone? c'mon). His games in the 2004 and 2005 playoffs were not very good.
Paul Byrd, on the other hand, pitched just well enough to beat the Yankees in the ALDS. He wasn't stellar against the Sox this season in his only game against them back on May 30th, but he did get the win after giving up a couple runs in six innings. Much like ALDS Game 4, his innings were sloppy, but he found a way out of them. Byrd's a very intelligent pitcher, and if he gets help from Boston like Westbrook did tonight, then he may be able to find his way out of enough innings to get a win tomorrow as well.
Looks like the Rockies are gonna sweep the D-backs (6-1 in the fourth). I think this may hurt them more than help them. They don't have the dominant pitchers who they can be resting and it seems that their hitters are feeding off of momentum more than anything.
Dear Eric Byrnes,
Never talk shit again. How does being swept feel? How does being swept by a team living off luck feel? Pretty bad I bet. Don't come around here or you will get jumped.
Love,
Everyone from Colorado
P.S. I am flipping cars right now.

Time for Boston fans to start panicking. Down 2 games to 1 and 6-0 in the bottom of the 5th in game 4. Cleveland is certainly in the driver's seat in this series right now.
Edit: 7-0 now!
EditEdit: 7-2 now, Boston is making me look foolish!
Man. Talk about the roof caving in during the 5th..
