Won't it be kinda hard to tell with the lack of any other quest NMs there?

yes and no - if he's in the middle of the dat list near the other apkallu, then he's probably not a quest nm (since quest nm's are typically listed near the end - of course, that's not the only kind of quest nm)

likewise if he's in with the other fished mobs. etc.

I had fishing in mind if it was totoroon's treasure hunt actually; being the 'other' hobby activity. I'm just speculating of course but as khamsin pointed out, the name is 'similar'. wasn't he added around the right time?

Bombs = Mining

The Quest seems to follow a trend of involving secondary gathering skills and popping NMs in the process. The next skill on the chart thats possible in the Silver Sea Boat is Fishing. So it couldbe very possible that Almighty Apkallu = Fishing.

I checked the .dat files and as you can see Almighty Apkallu is located on the bottom of the monster list like all the other quest NMs in the same series. Now its just a matter of finding the item needed to activate the Silver Seas area if one exists.

Yup, you're right, just checked the .dats and he doesn't offer any options to head to Silver Sea Route... oh well, back to the drawing board.

Just tested this, Almighty Apkallu popped during double penguin weather on boat ride back to Whitegate.

Oh well... time to go beat on more apkallu and test the hate theory, maybe after enough die i will be engulfed in sheer animosity on the ride back whitegate or a pirate ship will pull along side us and apkallu will attack the ferry

Anyways... im pretty convinced its hate or some kinda cross between specific conditions involving having some hate.... oh well...

I heard Almighty Apkallu spawns if a Red Mage wearing full wise gear who subs summoner comes on the boat ride and summons Cait Sith while curing and buffing with a Dark Staff on.

He might just be there because he was added at a later date. (For example, all Hediva Isle mobs are listed after any Caedarva mob/NM added before them.)
