Well, the timers for time spawns don't start until the mob is killed, so you did them a favor by getting it started. It's not going to pop when the PH is up (if it is a PH).

maybe they're saying it acts like those. you mentioned that x amt of apkallu's were in the dats and even a normal one never showed up. could it be possible that they change if you see them pop and don't touch them? it's possible random ppl just jump on boat and fight one eventually so it never gets to the last ph b4 almighty

Dang what a let down reading 13 pages on this bird, I thought someone figured it out and couldn't wait to get to page 13 lol.
I do have a couple theories though that I haven't seen brought up. I'v been camping a very annoying NM latley and until very recently I was unaware that the game has a yeary cycle ythat lasts about 2 weeks. The Noble mold will only spawn during rain weather. Rain weather happens for about 4 months out of the game year in this zone then it's mostly thunderstorms for the rest of the year. You have to leave the placeholder up for about 24 hours and the mob will "morph" into the NM. "Noble mold" appears to be the name of a type of mold that grows on grraps that is amazing for fermenting them into wine but only happens during a certain cycle of rain making it very rare.

Wouldn't it suck to have come close to getting the pop condition down but doing during the wrong part of the year? I think whoever thought of reserching the myth's of apkallu's might be on to something and maybe there is a time of year/day/weather associated with those myths?

Another thing is the difficulty of this NM, maybe it's not ment to be soloed? Maybe the pop condition has something to do with the ammount of people on the boat at the time. Wouldn't make too much sense for it to pop if nobody is able to kill it. I have a theory that maybe there is a combined hate level for your party/alliance and maybe if you engage the mob with a bunch of people and the combined hate is high enough the apkallu will morph into an Almighty Apkallu so it has a fighting chance? We do know that these mobs get buffed up the more they hate you and hate gives them their power. If their hate is great maybe that will give it the power to morph into almighty apkallu.

Some people say they get exp from these. Maybe if the hate level of the people on the boat is high enough while combined that other apkallu will spawn and maybe be T-IT as a clue that your hate level is getting close?

As a test, has anyone tried seeing if your hate level goes up just by inviting someone in their party and it combines your hate levels?

Anyways I like to think of my main job as sam/drg (that's what I enjoy most) and these boots are something I'v been very eager to obtain.......it's like they made them for me lol. Well I hope this helps solve this mystery, good luck finding this sucker

They revealed like 7 of the 8 ingredients over the course of a few days at one event.

just wondering but can you make them jealous eating the type of fish they like in front of them or just drop it with them around or something? Maybe if you eat that type of fish while its raw it could come, but it could be unlikely

Would suck if this was the way to get it to spawn, especially since I love killing anything that spawns on any boat ride I go on including Apkallu's.

I would say considering everything that has been tried, it would be possible; however, the scans have shown that it hasn't popped on some servers since maintenance. If it operated like Rose Garden wouldn't it have popped on every server by now considering how little people ride that boat back?

For Stubborn, that specific leg of the boat trip is probably ridden a little more often than Nashmau -> Al Zahbi due to Vodyanoi. I don't want to talk about how long I had to spend on it to see the NM spawn, but I claimed and killed Vodyanoi 5 times (lolnodrops; while camping Stubborn, and it wasn't like I was choosing when to camp based on Vodyanoi's ToD. I know one other guy who has seen him ever, and he camped him about a religiously as me.

Anyway, when I read this thread I thought of Stubborn right away. Just because no one has seen him doesn't mean his spawn conditions are something special. And yes, I camped Stubborn for 21-29 hours after my kill, then there was maintenance. Having seen him and satisfied my curiosity (though not gotten drops at all), I gave up. 20MP and 1MND wasn't worth another month on the boat. Come to think of it, my SMN leveling is still suspended from that encounter. My friend who killed him got a badass Tathlum Belt. He always joked he was going back for another when that one ran out, but he hasn't. <,<

I thought it was announced at an event, and some JP just blogged what was said, and we translated it from there.

As for random NMs, isn't there one that only pops during some random moon phase in La Theine under certain conditions or something?

Its not La Theine, it is actually Konschtat Highlands.
Haty and Bendigeit Vran both pop according to moon phase. Full for Haty and New for Vran.

Noble mold spawns only during rain weather, which only happens in that zone during 2-3 monthes of the ffxi year, and only if no one has killed the placeholder for some absurd amount of time. On top of that, it's like a 16 hrs until the window reopens, and it doesn't necessarily ever pop at all, once the window opens it can definitely just not ever spawn for no real reason. And on top of that the hat is like 30% drop rate with TH1, and it's a piece of shit to begin with. >_>

The only good thing is that it doesn't depop, so you can always just run by during month 5-6 and see if it's up.

That being said, apkallu are wind based, and there is wind weather on the boat. So something like that is possible, but I don't think it's likely.

I have a Carect Ring and a Rain Hat so I have at least a little experiance camping these stupid NM's. I think there would have been more sightings if it worked like Dredvodd. From my experiance riding the Nashmau>Whitegate ship, it's not that rare to find other people on it.

I think it most likely works like Rose Garden/Taisaijin. Rose Garden is only a 10-12 hour (i think) pop after placeholder dies, but Taisaijin is 19-32 hour according to the JP wiki. I'd imagine that there are probably a few BLU riding the boat trying to get Yawn from the easy Apkallu that pop there, which would constantly reset the timer.

This doesn't explain the missing Apkallu though. I still think it's probably fished up, but it must be extremely rare or you need to use a specific bait.

I've spent the last couple of hours fishing with various rods, bait and etc only to pretty much catch fish or a damned Orobon. Noticed pop pairs on the boat overall, if anything. Apkallu's have almost been scarce and I've even started to see them pop close to zoning into Al Zahbi. Tried fishing in front of one, killing it then fishing, no real change in results and haven't been able to fish up any either. Not sure if fishing is the answer at all, but I suppose I'll keep at it until it's a dead horse.

Umm, there is a key item in Fishing called "Frog Fishing", which have totally no purpose beside catching a fricking useless lvl 100 legendary fish called Tricorn which have almost no use either beside getting a 5k worth Darksteel Ore in the Inside The Belly quest.
But the interesting part is imo the description of the key item :

-Key Item: Frog Fishing
Description: This special technique requires the use of a live fly on your line. It is perfect for catching amphibious prey.

Apkallu are amphibious since they come in the ferry from the sea ... well just a though but maybe you need this key item to catch this NM ~
