Not directly related to AA, but more on the Apkallu hate system.
I recently spent quite some time on boat Al Zahbi -> Nashmau and Nashmau -> Al Zahbi trying to learn Yawn with blue mage, main thing I noticed is that on the boat from Nashmau Apkallu pop are quite uncommon, on a ratio (roughly) 2-3:1.
Also, hate isn't reset as you zone, as I have been on the boat to Nashmau more than the one from there and as I found more Apkallu in the route from Al Zahbi (and my horrible spell learning rate... >,>) I've accumulated quite some hate. Now if I engage an Apkallu it doesn't use Yawn anymore, first TP move has always been Wing Slap, followed by Beak Lounge when I was soloing, if there were any other person in party with me the second TP move used was Frigid Shuffle.
As they con low Easy Prey to me now, it's not easy to notice the damage reduction, nor any increased damage from their attacks, but their double attack rate was crazy, about a 50% (standard 2 attacks for being MNK, about every other "round" 3 attacks).
On the boat from Al Zahbi, they still have the standard behavior... no double attack, use only Yawn as TP move, nothing weird.
Hope this info can be helpful, if anything to figure out how their hate system works^^
Found this on Alla:

Gentlemen! To the boat!Q1: Does the NM, Almighty Apkallu, exist? And if so, where can he be found?
A1: Yes, the Almighty Apkallu exists! This puissant penguin can be found only on the Silver Sea ferry route from Nashmau to Al Zahbi. We believe the reason that none have never encountered him before is that while many adventurers ride the ferry to Nashmau, most either warp back to their Home Points on the mainland, or return to Al Zahbi via the Alzadaal Undersea Ruins. (Actually, we're just glad that to find out ourselves that the NM wasn't some sort of debug monster that we had forgotten to take out!)
Q2: Under what conditions does the Almighty Apkallu appear?
A2: While we don't want to ruin everyone's fun by telling you exactly when and how he appears, because so many at the festival showed interest in the NM, we've decided to reveal a few cryptic hints that may or may not make the hunt a little easier.
* First of all, luck plays a big role in whether he appears or not.
* He doesn't like being left alone, and will wander off if no one is around to keep him company.
Q3: How does one go about obtaining the Birdman Cape? Does an NM drop it?
A3: That is a very good question. Another good question would be, why is this number three in a series of questions about the Almighty Apkallu?

Actually, it makes me think the exact opposite. As, in, the reason they're mentioning the Birdman Cape in the same section as Almighty Apkallu means that it does drop the cape. I don't think the were dodging the question, just being elusive at saying point-blank "this is dropped by the freakin' penguin".Originally Posted by Attila
I think the answer to the third question is a dead giveaway that it does in fact drop it.
I bet he pops like on the back of the boat or something where no one sees him then he despawns.
Maybe I'm just being pessimistic, but does this really tell us anything new other than it's not bugged (or if it was they've ninja fixed it)? I'd really like to get the cape, but after my own countless times on the boat, and reading everyone else's stories, it doesn't look like they haven't told us anything we didn't already know or that is helpful. Unless he pops on the bottom deck?
There are two Apkallus in the .DATs for silver sea route to al zhabi. so I suppose it pops if 2 apkallus are up at the same time?
That's a thought. Perhaps Almighty only pops if 1) It's his time to and 2) Another Apkallu is currently alive on the boat.
Maybe the "3" answer thing means there needs to be 3 people on said boat in a party ? No idea >.>
Noone has seen that Apkallu in recent months.Originally Posted by Khelek
I just checked again using ArtMoney, and it hasn't popped on Bismarck, but it popped sometime within the last 2 hours (since maintenance) on Unicorn. This doesn't mean that it's 'fixed' or can be popped, but it seems unlikely that anyone was riding the boat during that time, which means it more than likely popped with nobody around. My guess is that it was up right after maintenance ended.
There is still no sign of the mystery Apkallu on either server though.
They said he doesn't like to be alone and that there's something about "3".. I'm assuming we're not his company <_< and there are a total of 3 apkallus in the dats, the third being AA. idk, just makes sense if he'd pop once the other two are on the boat. keep one alive, wait for the other one to pop, see if AA pops.
Or, it could just be the responder saying to the interviewer "Why are you asking me this, we're talking about Almighty Apkallu".Originally Posted by Soarian
The interviewer could have asked about Goblin Drink in the 3rd question, and the responder would still say "Why is the third question in this series regarding AA about Goblin Drink?"
And why is 3 significant? That's just how many questions the interviewer asked regarding the subject.
I'm gonna hate myself in the morning, but LUCK has something to do with it?
4 leaf mandy bud?
rabbit foot?
lucky egg?
To me, this sounds like you need more than a couple people on the boat for him to either pop or stay popped. Perhaps 6-18 people or more. A lot of these "I'm riding the boat for 24 hours straight!" people probably only did that with a maximum of 3 people (I can't think more than a very small handful of people on the same server would be willing to do something like that for a full day straight... I'd /wrists if I did nothing but "Oh, not on this boat *warp back to Nashmau and get on other boat..." *repeat* for 24 hours straight... But, combine that with this:* He doesn't like being left alone, and will wander off if no one is around to keep him company.
And it tells me that "hey, if you're in a large party/alliance, and happen to ride the boat in his spawn window, he probably will pop if everyone's on the deck, or something..."* First of all, luck plays a big role in whether he appears or not.
It sounds to me, that lots of people + riding at the right time = spawns AA... Now, if you could get 18 people together, and ride the boat for 24 hours straight, I'm fairly confident that it probably will pop at some point... I'd say 90% confident... Now, if I'm wrong, that 10% covers my behind, so no castrations, please, if anyone tries this.![]()
I have access to 3 characters, think I might just go out tonight and give this thing a shot. Even though it's not confirmed, otherwiki has Birdman Cape listed as a drop off this
Will post later tonight, most likely with "I found him, here's a picture of my dead body next to him."
luck?
maybe corsair rolls or something stupid?
Keep him company. Maybe he spawns where you enter the ship, in that closet of a corridor?
