I'll do it if you pay me the $17.62 I would be making at work for those hours.Originally Posted by DanielRemora

Someone go get a 3leaf mandy bud and ride the ship. kthxbye. (I have 4 and he didn't pop when I rode it.)
Or he works in china RMT!!!!!Originally Posted by DanielRemora

I'll be lucky to get through 24 hours without passing out or having to run off to Khim or Cerb.Originally Posted by DanielRemora
it was my understanding that if a boat is empty at launch, the system doesn't even bother to populate that ship's run with mobs. if that were the case, this would explain why even memory recording pops for him are so scarce.Originally Posted by Kaylia

Speaking of which, I checked the game memory last night, and he is in there, indicating that he has popped on Midgard.![]()
Where did you check? You mean you used something like app or NPC exe. and he was @ 0%?Originally Posted by DanielRemora

I take this as meaning either he depops quickly after spawn if nobody claims him similar to the Einherjar Odin pets, he only pops if there are other apkalkus on the boat, or he is another mob that only spawns when Apkallus are left alive for a time frame, hence the...He doesn't like being left alone, and will wander off if no one is around to keep him company.
I'd say a good way to start camping him is to ride the boat back and forth non stop for a long time 12+ hrs, maybe in a party with 2 people, one on each boat. And start by not killing any apkallus, maybe asking nicely that other people on the boat dont touch them as well. The Rose Garden type conditions seems most likely to me, since he only appears to have spawned on some servers right after a long maintenance. And i think that the "Cryptic Hints" point toward this theory as well.luck plays a big role in whether he appears or not.
Anyway if nobody is up for it, I will try to camp all day Sunday, no promises that i can make it even 6 hrs before i decide to do something better with my time.
right. what i was saying was that if nobody is on the ship, the game might be able to not bother popping any mobs at all on that traversal of the ferry, since there's no reason to pop mobs for no passengers. if that were the case, AA could have gone through an entire window (maybe just 1 boat ride) and failed to pop at all. this would result in him not being in memory at all, rather than having the depop signature in memory.Originally Posted by DanielRemora
For some reason, some servers have "seen" him, but nobody has said anything which means either some random person who was afk or didn't really understand the AA issue rode the boat at the time, or it's one of the best kept secrets in FFXI. This is assuming your theory is correct, that someone has to ride the boat for him to pop. It would explain, however, why some servers have him in memory and others don't.Originally Posted by Spekkio

So no matter which way you look at it, there's a mystery either way.
And what about Apkallu #8? I've only ever seen Apkallu #7, and I don't recall if anyone's said they've seen #8 in memory or not before.

i've been following this thread all along and my memory fails me on this. please excuse me if i'm re-asking a question but, are there several "rooms" in the boat zone? that is to say, can there be more than one ship en route to al zhabi at once? i seem to remember hearing that this was the case, but i don't remember where or if the information was credible (if it ever existed in the first place.) if this were the case, the second apkallu may exist in the dats to provide a second pop for the other "room."
as for testing my theory above (which i'm not holding my breath on, i just figure it's worth 90 seconds of scrutiny before we toss it out for being stupid) it should be very easy to test. simply select a boat that's not heavily traversed and record the memory information as of the time of dock. warp to the source and permit the boat to go to the destination again once with nobody on it. after the boat arrives at the source a third time (the second was the one you didn't take and the first was the one you did for the memory snapshot) board it and snapshot the memory as of the start of the boat ride. if the mobs that are popped are the only difference between the two snapshots, mobs probably do not pop when nobody is on the boat. if they do differ, mobs likely do pop when the boat is unoccupied.
as far as i know, once the nash > wg boat docks in in wg the other boat leaves nashmau, so there is only one boat going that direction at any one time, but you have to warp back to get on it before it leaves. also, for your room theory, it would still show in memory as being in the zone (from how i think it works)
that's exactly my point. the other apkallu might be there to be a slot for the other apkallu in the other "room" if such a "room" exists. if not, it's still totally unaccounted for.Originally Posted by Breemer

He was at 100%, but wasn't "popped", indicating that he despawned at 100%.
As far as I understood it, the mobs are loaded regardless of someone being on the ship, or not. That's an assumption, though, based on other zones behaviours. It can be tested, but I'm always busy after a maintenance.
There is only the one boat, in the one area.Originally Posted by Spekkio

The way server mechanics work (read: should work), the boat should function as normal even if there is no one on it at the time. It'd be like saying all the mobs in Behemoth's Domain despawn just because no one is in the zone. It doesn't work that way, at least, it shouldn't.
