    DVD Player with upconversion

Question: Does the upconversion on DVD players with that upconversion to 1080i+ work over component video connections?

I tried googling this, but the only concrete answer I found is that the upconversion works for sure with HDMI, but no solid thing saying that it'll work over component video. I'm looking to buy a new DVD player on Black Friday (Since I never went out on Black Friday before (worked it once) I'm officially scared...), and heard it was worth getting one with the HD Upscaling so that you get a better picture out of it. My issue is this: My HDTV is a rear projection 55" Mitsubishi. It supports 480i, 480p, and 1080i (I thought it did the 720's as well, but it didn't, and that made me sad...) The best it has is DVI, and I can't seem to find any players that utilize DVI now that HDMI is out. So, that means I'm stuck with component.

Now, if the answer to my question is "yes," any recommendations on what I should get? I'm hoping to not pay over $100 for it, but I might go a bit over if needed.

    No.

As far as I am aware, all upscaling DVD/R/H use HDMI for 720p/1080i/1080p scaling.

You can pick up an upscaling DVD player pretty cheap (certainly under $100, maybe even 1080p depending on your market but the outlay will be a decent HDMI cable which will set you back $70-$100).

I'm genuinly not sure if this would work, as it varied with manufacturers but you could try a component to HDMI cable.

On a side note, if your TV cannot display 720p, then it's in no format considered a HD Ready TV. All HD Ready branded TV's must be able to display 720p and 1080i through HDMI, Component(ypbpr) or DVI as well as standard definition formats.

Depends on the player, but there are some that do.

And you can use a DVI-HDMI adapter, but there is an high chance that it won't work if the signal is protected.

Thanks for the info. That definitely helps with what I'm looking for. And, yeah, my TV isn't HDTV ready. I think they make HDTV box thingies that I can hook up to my DVI to make it work, though. I'll have to check into that.
