    X-Fi Xtreme Audio Notebook issues

While using it to listen to music, or basically any other sound for that matter, I get an annoying crackling noise, seemingly at random, other than it almost always happens when I load a webpage. Disabling my wireless card gets rid of the majority of the crackling but not all of it. This also makes it just a little bit difficult to play FFXI and do anything else online. Drivers are all up to date etc. I tried looking on Dell's forums and Creative's forums but I can't find anything that will help. Any suggestions? Let me know what more information is needed.

Some wireless devices, when they are sending/recieving a signal, have an adverse reaction on speaker systems. It's usually heard as a medium to high pitched pulsating static noise. The only thing you can do is, like you mentioned, turning off your wireless cords and moving any cellphones away from your laptop. I get this at work at lot because everyone and their mom has a cellphone or blackberry, and when they transmit information it often makes that sound on their nearby speakers. All you can do is turn that stuff off or move it away.

Thanks for the response. I'd think it was just noise from the wireless card sending/recieving a signal too, except the cracking doesn't happen when I'm just using the onboard sound. Only when using the X-Fi Xtreme Audio Notebook. I think it might be that my ExpressCard slot and wireless card might be sharing the same IRQ. I tried to change it to see but Dell bios sucks so I can't change it there and in windows it's locked/greyed out.

You'd use device manager NOT the BIOS to change the irq for your sound card or wifi card. Also, try pressing fn+F2 to see if the static stops after you disable the wi-fi card.

The only thing you would be able to do in the BIOS is disable the wireless card (which can be done by using the fn+F2 keypress without fiddling in BIOS)
