If you look at the math, they did. Look at his paycheck and look at the number of games he played before you call people idiots. Nobody said he specifically got paid 1M per game, just that the math worked out that way.

Since when is 4.50 a respectable ERA? I'm guessing your "greater effect on the team" would refer to the fact that he came back and gave them hope? Soaked up innings? Okay. I guess that's true. I also guess the fact that their second half schedule was full of mush along with some struggling Central teams didn't help either, huh? Meh. Why would you notice that, since I obviously have no knowledge about baseball.

4.50 ERA is about average, and respectable in anyone's book. Dunno what game you watch, but this is an offensive league and I think maybe 3 pitchers in all of baseball had an ERA under 3. So yes, I'll take 4.50.

And hi, they played a long stretch of games against the Tigers, Indians, Angels and Red Sox. They won the majority of the games, and swept the Red Sox. Hardly "struggling central teams" considering the Indians look like they're going to beat my Yankees anyway.

So you know, I wasn't using the payroll issue to explain how shitty they can be. I don't care if they were 51-25 after the All Star Break. They're behind 2-1 to the Indians right now due to their pitching and they are down 6-1 in the bottom of the 4th right now because Wang can't get the ball down. Clemens pulled something yet again and had to leave the game early and now he's unable to play in the ALCS if they make it. Granted they won the game, but it still doesn't justify paying Clemens that much. I don't care how many innings he soaked up, he still missed games due to the fact that he's OLD. You just don't pay an old pitcher like that 17+ million dollars. The Yankees did it because they were desperate and if you say they weren't, then YOU don't know anything about baseball.

He wasn't a waste and he wasn't the savior either. Of course they were desperate, didnt I suggest that when I said they were throwing rookie after rookie out there? Does it mean they were wrong for paying him that much money? Nope. They got pretty much what they expected out of him.

The payroll is the biggest misconception in baseball to date. Look how much the Cubs went and spent on players, yet they got swept out of the playoffs. The Braves paid a ton of money for Tex to come and play first base, yet they didn't even MAKE the playoffs. It's the fact that the players weren't performing. I know that, I'm not dense. I'm just sick of fans of different teams going head over heels to protect their team, like you are. Get off your high horse and check the game. The Yankees are overrated, overpaid, and losing. Get a grip on reality. I guess the Indians beating you 3 out of 4 will help.

So you're allowed to come on here and post whatever you want, but in the same breath you say I shouldn't defend my team. Uh huh. I'll defend them to the fucking grave, and I don't give a shit if it pisses you off.

Since when were the Yankees overrated? Everyone counted them out at the beginning of the season, and they made it all the way back. They may lose this game and may lose this series, but you know they'll be back with the young talent for years to come. And way to make a hypocrite of yourself (again) by saying "payroll is the biggest misconception in baseball" and that the yankees are "overpaid" in the same sentence. Why does it matter what they're paid if payroll doesn't matter smartass?

According to Forbes, the Marlins are the most profitable baseball team. As anyone who follows baseball operations know, teams like the Yankees and Red Sox operate at a loss thanks to things like MLB's revenue sharing.

First of all, that clearly doesn't count how much the Yankees make in sports apparel and the like. I'm sure they make more than that 250m figure in about a month. Also, they have a majority share of the YES network, which recently was valued at over 3 billion dollars. Sorry, you're going to have to quote more than Forbes here, which looks at a very basic overview of the Yankee organization.
