On NIN/DRK vs. NIN/RDM on stun resistant mobs, i'd still rather use NIN/DRK. ABS-STAT spells are a huuuge chunk of hate, and unless you're a Galka, you've got plenty of MP to burn one or two of them every hate cycle.


Souleater I almost never use with Katanas, as...

1: The only things that reset hate are wyrms
2: With my luck, meleeing with Souleater up will just make them roar my cotank

Since I can get hate back up above my cotank in the time it takes for a flight/landing cycle, melee hits arn't really needed. Last Resort/Souleater just function as Warcry-esque hate spikes. I'd rather just use Hades Sainti than Katanas :S

I'd agree that NIN/drk has better hate output than NIN/war, but I wouldn't go so far as to say amazing.

Show me a NIN/WAR that can hold hate from a SAM doing 5x 1000+ damage WS's in under 10 seconds with Meikyo Shisui, and I might be inclined to agree. A properly-played NIN/DRK will decimate any kind of hate NIN/WAR could put up. The only time you wouldn't be using it are really in situations where you wouldn't be using PLD/NIN either--short fights such as non-boss Limbus, Dynamis, or portions of Salvage.

<3 NIN/DRK. One of the most fun HNMs I had was tanking Cerberus on it. I wish I could tank it and other HNMs more than I get to do but my LS would kill me probably if I retired my BRD and RDM/DRK >.> I'd love to tank Tiamat someday but Nara has banned me from it since I don't have a Barfire kit (only cause SE refuses to give me more inventory space ;; ).

NIN/DRK has huge amount of hate generation tools tho. Our BLUs and SAMs go all out on Cerb with their 2hr for fun and I pop Souleater and get hate back straight away. NIN/DRK can easily take hate from PLD/NINs if they try and it is much easier for them to get mass hate quickly on an HNM if they get swapped in late in the fight cause another tank dies or something. Spam Sleep/Stun/Bind and Ninjitsu, pop a SE if you want hate straight away and off you go.

Well, the same goes for Pld/Nin getting hate off a Nin/Drk. Though I do admit Nin/Drk does still put out more overall hate. On any fight where I co-tank with a Nin/Drk they probabally have hate 60% of the time and I have it for 40% of the time.

When you're at the cap, it's all about who acts more quickly. They're not putting out more overall hate, they're just casting every 5 seconds vs your 10. Spam Cure 1 over and over again and you'll probably have the same effect.

The movement to styles like NIN/DRK, RDM/NIN, etc. from the original /WAR based tanking styles is probably one of the biggest "advances" in endgame. NIN/DRK isn't a minor improvement to NIN/WAR, it's pretty game changing in terms of trying to low man things as well as trying to break speed records.

Also, regarding the fact that NIN/DRK requires a healer, why can't RDM be a healer if low #s is an issue? If you follow other standard tactics like mob TP limitation, you are not really required a WHM for most things. NIN/DRK does require more 'support' to function though. PLD/NIN works, albeit not perfectly, without any support (eg. solo holding Khimiara for 10 minutes like a couple PLDs do on my server) - NIN/DRK cannot do this. Both require generally the same set of buffs/support to function at their fullest though. It makes NIN/DRK + PLD/NIN tanking combo really popular.

If only SE didint kill NIN/BRD that was the best tank you couldnt get hate like that from any other combo. IMO RDM/NIN>all now.

-imo- nin/drk is a better tank for most things than pld/nin. the problem is you need really good nin/drks, whereas pld/nin is more idiot proof. a pld/nin can make mistakes and it's no big deal. nin/drk makes too many mistakes and they die. this is why most LS just stick with plds now days. tons of ppl have it lvled and don't have to have it merited or geared very well to do a decent job. so it's a good solid tank you can rely on regardless of gear/skill (usually, lol).

It really depends on the fight. For certain fights where no ones taking much damage at all I'll have more hate than the PLD/NIN on my NIN/DRK. This happened to me in KS99 Wyrm. However, in fights like Ultima where damage gets thrown around, the PLD/NIN will have more hate than I on NIN/DRK for obvious reasons. It also depends on how quick/retarded the healers are, though.

The amount of hate you can generate is about equal to what NIN/DRK can, but you lose a lot of spike hate from SE/LR. It just doesn't really offer enough of a benefit really I think.

If it builds stun or sleep resistance, don't use those spells. You still get blind, abs-<stat>, etc.
