There has been a lot of drastic price manipulation for profit in the last week or so on Midgard, not sure about other servers. Items affected have included sniper's, woodsman, utsu:ni, fuma sune-ate, melody+1, woodville's axe, maybe others. Always the same few people involved, some suspected to have RMT links I think.

I'm quoting histories on these three itmes since they sell a bit slower than the others, so you can still see the sellers and the buyers, and the fact that they're the same for each item.

I'm guessing the GM's are worried that RMT are using this as a way to generate revenue, and are starting to crack down on it. Could be wrong, but it looks that way.

Yes, there was another thread that pointed that out. As a general practice I would avoid price manipulation for while until SE roots RMT out of that niche, too.

While this situation sucks, RMTs are doing this to try and make money. I remember people on Siren talking about RMT groups that are/were trying to raise the prices on a few items. Also given that the STF focuses a lot on RMT activity than anything else I say you got mixed up in that group.

Normal players do this enough that I don't see why the GMs would automatically ban someone who does it. It's not like this is an activity that's RMT exclusive or anything.

Supply and demand, if people weren't willing to pay they price, they wouldn't. Cursed Caps aren't exactly required. If people felt that paying 300k was unfair, they shouldn't do it. Eventually the price would go down.

see my issue here is this is an AUCTION system. Its not he has a monopoly and is forcing the price up. In an auction system, people sell what they want to sell for and buy what they want to buy for. If i wanna sell a damn beehive chip for 100k thats my own business, conversely, if someone wants to buy that beehive chip for 100k thats their business. Hell when I see less then 10 reraise hairpins on ah, i bump the price up 10k or more from current, and they sell every time. If people want them that bad they will pay it. If someone wants a cursed cap they can decide if they want to pay 100k for it or 300k for it, thats their decision, nobody but the buyer has any effect how much an item is sold for.

You do not get temp banned for putting an item in AH for higher price, I suspect you tried to cover up the old AH history with your new price. That is what was detailed as "manipulating the AH for profit" by SE. They stated in STF reports that they would be targeting people that did that.

If you just put items in for a higher price, nothing would happen to you. If you instead had someone buy up all the items in AH for a higher price (artificially inflating the price) they will temp ban, or even ban you.

It's not as if they bought and resold, or did it multiple times to fill the history.

He did do it more then once, just got temp banned once his name was shown to buy it and sell it for an increased price more then once.

How did you know your friend was temp banned because of price-gouging? Did he tell you that, or did he send you any picture/screenshot?
