The real test of Iraqi sovereignty.

Lets see how this works out. Second time the iraqi government makes that request, the result will show who exactly is in charge, and if, in fact, Iraq is a sovereign nation as U.S claims.

"The Iraqi investigation — first outlined Thursday by The Associated Press — charges the four Blackwater vehicles called to the square began shooting without provocation. Blackwater contends its employees came under fire first"

Unless there is video tape of them not being shot at, no one is being handed over and no money will be paid out. And the likely hood that they were not shot at is damn low considering the area they were in.

The demands — part of an Iraqi government report examined by The Associated Press — also called on U.S. authorities to hand over the Blackwater security agents involved in the Sept. 16 shootings to face possible trial in Iraqi courts.

No, you are right. They don't have a say, which proves the point of a lot of people that America is empire building at the cost of american lives and huge sums of taxes, loans and future debt.

The private security forces are there to escort diplomots etc, these are their missions that we know about. Why we require almost 200k bodyguards at $1,000 each, per day is puzzling to me also.
Blackwater is just the largest out of the thousand of private mercenaries employed in Iraq, and also according to iraqis, most ruthless.

How many Iraq posts are you going to make before 2008? Fucking Christ.

Should petition Sonocat for a Politics/Religion/Sensationalism subboard or something.

It's more accurate to say that we realized somewhere around 2004 that empire building was preferable to being seen as having created a little pocket of anarchy in an already unstable system of nations.

@Jeryhn: politics, sensationalism and the rest of the news are some of the best parts of the general board. At least it's something worth talking about.

The problem that I have with a majority of your posts is that you pose questions or just link articles to start w/o giving your "rant"/"thoughts" on it first. Post your opinion first and let people go off that instead of waiting to see what everyone else thinks and then reacting accordingly.

I'd feel a little egocentric doing that. I generally hope the discussion would involve the topic presented, so my tendency is to reserve comments until somebody presents their view. Besides, I think you are painting that picture with wrong colors, I usually give a good indication which way I'm swinging when I post a topic.

So if Blackwater is kicked out who gets to take their job? The Iraqi police? Nobody?

This is also known as 'baiting' and generally only prompts some anti-America bullshit out of you. You piss people off because they know your history, guartz.

I'm anti-any large warmongering government, so thanks for the compliment.

If he did that most of the discussions would be about why people agree/disagree with his position on the matter instead of discussing the matter at hand. I like his way of posting these events because instead of just making it about one guys opinion on global events he's encouraging discussion that gives everyone the opportunity to better understand the topic he brings up.

I'd agree with you if he actually formulated good arguments from the articles he posts, but instead it's only anti-america, liberal bullshit

edit: obviously not neoliberal lol, I was watching a special on neoconservatism at the time and it was burned into brain
