As much as I am looking forward to seeing Bush out of office, I don't really think he was wrong in opposing this resolution. I mean, they all knew that Turkey would react badly to it, it's just not a pleasant label for the country. Of course, it definitely SHOULD be labeled as genocide considering the numbers, but if it's gonna piss off Turkey, why even bother? Obviously we need their support in this ridiculous war. Then again, maybe this'll be a good reason to pull troops out, but I find it unlikely to be the reason to end the war.

This whole resolution only stirred up trouble, what good came of it? Are the Armenians that much more happy now that the mass killing is labeled a specific word? I don't think I was going to be losing any sleep if it was just called a mass deportation with heavy casualties instead really...

Exactly. Labeling this a genocide would probably damage our relations with Turkey. As to what we'd lose by damaging our relations with them I have no idea, but apparently its worth enough to not arbitrarily label those mass killings as a genocide.
