Of course, after I post that I fish up 5 trumpet shells in a row. lol.. I'll see how long it takes me to reach cap at least once or twice before complaining again. XD

My husband and I actually went fishing on Trumpets yesterday to see how it was. He's 45 Fishing, so he could skill while we both make money (we have a 100 bone mule).
In approximately 10 hours, I (91 Fishing) caught ~180 Trumpet Shells. He only caught ~80. It definitely felt like I was getting a better catch rate on them than he was. He did get a level and a half of skill, though!
Hopefully you have an easier time with them. ^^
I personally can't stand fishing trumpets, yet I don't mind 4-5 straight hours of Liks. I think the difference is I can watch netflix and just cancel anything other than !!! negative/unsure and barely have to even look at the screen other than to reel in one fish worth 15k with the chance at a skill up. On the other hand my lsmate can't stand liks and fishes like 10 stacks of trumpets per day. It's all personal preference! Reports from my trumpet fiending lsmate and personal experience bite rate ranges from 20% to 50% depending on your luck/fatigue.
Oh it is, it is.
I've been fishing Trumpets the past couple weeks, been making a reasonable profit with them, too. At the same time, I've also been watching Start Trek: Next Generation DVDs.
The way I can quickly tell if I have a Trumpet Shell on the line is thusly:
Obviously, it has to be a single "!."
If it is, the music will start at the *exact* same moment the rod shifts to the right or the left; if the music starts before or after this movement, cancel it. Further, trumpet shells will allow the rod to stay in the center at equal intervals (similar to ahtapots).
If you aren't playing with any sound: The rod animation for staying in the center involves a slight "tugging" of the rod. When the rod reaches it's maximum height (when it looks like you're pulling back on it a bit), if the rod moves right/left, trumpet shell.
A bit hard to explain, but it's fairly simple to recognize once you've gotten it.
Where is a good location for trumpets? I tried once and never got any bites. Maybe wrong bait?
On one of the four bridges in Vunkerl Inlet [S], using Robber Rig or Rogue Rig:

Thank you sir~
Welp, after 4-5 hours of fishing there I got about half a skill level and 44 trumpet shells. I was just being lazy though and never zoned to reset soft cap. lol.. (Yay for watching anime via "Always on Top" option.) So I'm right there with him. I guess skill really can make a difference? He only caught ~80. It definitely felt like I was getting a better catch rate on them than he was. He did get a level and a half of skill, though!
Next session I'm going to make sure to zone every 60~90 minutes.
i've not noticed the zone fatigue yet, leveled from 0 to 79 without ever zoning and my cast:catch rate never changes
possible they removed it when they implemented hard 200 fish cap?
I did the same until I started fishing in town.. but I think the actual problem was different than what I thought it was. I had already handed in too many carps to change methods so I was fishing for moats+golds in windurst. Sometimes every 60-90 minutes I had to switch zones.. but I guess that had more to do with the area being fished out than a soft cap.
Welp, now I really don't know what I'm doing wrong. lol
I guess you're supposed to zone every hour or so... some soft-cap that makes you get less bites... I recommend setting homepoint in nash and fishing by the docks... every time you fill up inventory, warp -> NPC -> run back..
But I honestly don't know if it helps or if Im just being superstitious.
If nothing else, it makes me look different than everyone else AFK botting there all the time :/
Maybe not the right place to ask, but I always assumed fish botting wasn't detectable since it seems like a lot of people do it (ie. there's still a ton of sushi on AH). I have no idea how it works though. Does it only move the rod for you or actually instantly reduce Fish energy to 0 (vaguely remember reading something like this)? If that's the case the main way you could tell someone was cheating would be reeling in fish too fast, right?
If you can answer but don't want it to look like you bot, you can PM me XD.
