Unlike getting a relic great axe with gimp great axe skill, you do not need fishing skill to use ebisu.
In fact the ebisu helps tremendously with skilling up, so its actually quite the oppisite of gimp.
Gettings ebisu before fishing feet/apron in fishing is like getting anima synthesis before the alchemy weapon. (for those that don't know its nigh impossible to skill past 75 or whatever without anima synthesis)
As to the guy who wants to know if you can get the key items withotu serpent rumour syou can.
The record I believe is a dude that got both items in the 50s, but you still need serpent rumours to get ebisu as the npc for the quest won't initiate it without.
Ok wow, I think I figured out what they did to ebisu guys.
After 2 hours of fishing suddenly my JP button kicked in, first I had finicky cave cherax, only pulled in about 10-12 in those 2 hours, when suddenly the fish went completely ballistic.
I think I'll let these two CSes tell the rest...

It doesn't stop there though, Ebisu started rocking some kind of super sick omega penguin ring action. I was dropping the hp of cherax like nothing, we're talking sick speed. I dunno if there is anyway for me to tell you the sheer 1337ness of how epic the rod went.
Normally it took me a good 8-9 swings of the rod amid headfaking and etc with the cherax, getting close to running out of time message to finish it off. I was dropping them in this rage mode in close to 3 swings.
This super rage mode on ebisu appears to last for 10 mins then fizzles out and resumes normal mode again, gonna see how long it takes to kick in.
I'm thinking we're not noticing it on boats cause the zoning may reset the rage timer.
ok so its not only me
i can confirm ebisu now can deplete stamina faster w/o being flamed then ^^
I can definitely confirm this. Looks like ebisu is even hotter than before. On another note, I have some more info:
The rage mode appears to kick in every half an hour or so at first building in strength, unti lit hits its peak after about 2 hours. After that it cycles in about 10-15 minute cycles of rage then normal.
DCing, and probably zoning / logging out appears to reset the whole thing, preventing you from ever pulling off rage mode on the boat.
I'm gonna have to do a lot more testing though, not nearly a big enough sample size to be for certain, it might just be some wierd time of day or moon phase or seed I got, who knows.
Either way I just reeled in 15 cherax in 20 mins flat so I ain't complaining :D
Btw, am I the only fisherman that still zones after about 100 fish caught or do people just stay in the same zone for the whole 200? Not sure if I'm wasting time just running around zoning and I'm imagining increasing amounts of "You didn't catch anything."
Would like a definite answer for zone fatigue if anybody knows.
yea fatique starts around 100+ and builds up
you can do a test by spamming your /fish macro after reeling in something
0-100 fishes(or so i just stating at estimate) you will get 2 lines of "You must wait longer"
as you fish more and more above 100 fishes, you will notice more and more lines of "You must wait longer" and at about 180 fishes, you will notice 7 lines
when you hit 8 lines, your pretty much cap and heres where i stopped fishing when i was pre 100
arthars have you tried cave cherax to see if you can replicate this ebisu rage mode?
I like calling it ebisu rage =D
damn you saber shoot ; ;
i didnt try cave before in my fishing life ; ;
so even if i go now, i cant tell you the difference XD
i went from pterygotus to liks straight after 98
I tried marlin fishing today for the first time in a while (since update), and Ryugus seem a lot easier to catch with Ebisu now, don't even need to use albatross anymore. I've gained about 6 levels (78>84) since the last time I fished these, so I'm not sure if it's an ebisu buff or just level difference.
Still don't really notice a difference in Liks, might try some Gugrus w/o penguin if pirates attack.
I can verify that titans have calmed the F down since the patch. When I was fishing titanictus for GPs I hooked a few and couldn't believe how easy they were now. It's not necessarily the depletion that seems to have changed on them, but they don't whip back and forth like a damn weedwhacker anymore.
@The zoning fatigue question. I never zoned fatigue at all when I was leveling. There were multiple times when I'd stay in Nash 2-3 straight days never zoning/logging fishing to the cap each day.
I have had signboard for awhile but didn't notice its effects much (getting moglification with the big one). Maybe its just because I have never really fished for anything that tough (never tried liks or gugs).
Does it make a difference weather you get moglification from map or bigone?
Can you reliably catch gugrus without penguin ring?
