Someone on my linkshell got their Ebisu without the penguin ring. He didn't realize the penguin ring existed until we got into a deep discussion months later.

He was kicking himself. I can tell you this much, you want the penguin ring if you're going after gugrus.

Um, yes, obvious, hence the point of the question, if there really was some sort of enchantment regarding the moglification, meaning it would be possible and easier to pull gugrus w/o ring.

He has a signboard.

He still used to complain daily about how hard it was to reel in the fish. The signboard doesn't make up for the lack of the ring apparently. I asked him if the signboard has changed anything recently and he says he can't see any real noticeable change.

Without penguin ring I catch about 1% of the gugru's I hook while on my pc. I catch about 33% on ps2. I catch about 75% on a pc that has the fps sucking programs mentioned in this thread. Sucks, but the #1 factor for me in catching fish with only 1 ring is the platform.

lik are easy even with an fps of 29.9
gugs on the other hand suck. Its why i stick to lik. i wonder if this rage mood works on lik. Im be fishing a lot, theres about 4 people i need to fish for >.< just been so busy in game bla!

funny my lik sell before i even say i have them. "got any selling?" i get at least 3 times a day >.<

I did a bit of testing myself. I havn't fished Gugrusaurus since I obtained my ebisu rod back in Jan. 2008 (1/360). I tried today and with Albatross alone I was able to get Gugrusaurus down to 40% with a solid 29 FPS which was unheard of pre-patch. I've since run out of charges with Penguin Ring but I think it's safe to say that with Penguin + Albatross you don't even need a FPS lowering program anymore. I did find one and was able to reel like every Gugrusaurus with it however post-patch with only Albatross.

I'm going to do some more tests later on the regular Ferry with titans etc to see if I notice anything. The "rage" mode is also interesting so I'll try and test that later when I get some more time.

I was under the impression that the Ibisu update was quest related hmm.

I've seen quite a few people finish the quest POST update... so there may be some truth to this.

I contribute that to more people trying for it once the update notes came out. Our prices on Odin jumped from a somewhat stagnant 15k each to 20k each.

@Dejet I got used to the wyrm flying by, but was caught off guard the other day fishing gugs and seeing a whale "jump" out of the water.

I'd guess this is what SE did... made it just slightly better at reeling in fish. It's not game-breaking, but at least they updated fishing

I don't think they deserve any props at all. They made it sound like it was a huge update and it's hardly noticeable if at all.
I wish they would add fish or items obtained from fish to more recopies to increase demand for a wider variety of fish.
