Soooo, the fish ranking on my server atm is Titanictus. What's the minumum level needed to pull them up on some sort of regular basis (I'm 69+waders)? Does the HoldOneButtonDownAndPray method work on these? I know I've caught a few titans that way lol.

Also, I have a pirate's chart sitting around waiting to be used: would an albatross ring give me a good/better chance of landing them consistantly?

albatross provides you with all the chance in every fish, but titantictus is easy and may not need

it is a pretty weak fish compared to the other 100 fishes, i would say at skill 69, maybe your reel in rate is 90%

Thanks for the fast input. They do seem kinda weak now that I've tried them, similar to a silver shark but jerk the rod less. I catch about 60% of them I'd say? Most are shorter than 130, so i'm guessing the ones I time out on are the bigger ones. Which is ok, since the contest wants small fish lol

I see the general consensus is that a fish within about 20 of the minimum/maximum is probably a winner, does this mean that for small/large fish with 40 is ideal? The weight and length are just added up?

As for the unable to turn in fish for ranking, I have seen this before with sawfish I got one from chocobo hot cold game attempted to turn in for ranking and got same message. I think can only turn in fish that we're fished up to start with.

It varies greatly by your server and the fish in question. There really is no set amount.

Interesting. I'm also pretty sure that (non legendary) fish bought from the guild are stat-less too. As I got some Bhefhel marlins that way

Are Im/Pz sizes considered "signed items" wrt the AH? Like, if I catch a fish for the contest, don't like the size, put it on the AH and then buy it, will it have a different length and weight on it? Or are those numbers "hard-wired" into the fish? That would make the contest a lot easier.

If you're any good you might be able to fish up a sawfish at a low level, but you'll need a lu shang. Their behavior is basically the same as a bladefish, except they have way lower stamina. They can break your rod though, and it sucks balls waiting for that stupid ferry.

I was able to reel in a titanic sawfish in my 50s with lus using albatross ring, but it was a helluva fight.

Fish will not have a lm/pnz on them for one of 3 reasons:

First, it was caught before the weight update, after like 3-4 years this is pretty unlikely.

Second, it was bought off of the guild/npc, these are statless, or:

Third, it was retrieved using a nonfishing method, IE chocobo hot and cold, dropped off monster, quested, etc. There aren't many legendaries that can be obtained aside from guild/fishing, but titanic sawfish is one example.

As per catchign high level fish with low skill, I think without even rings you could probably catch titanictuses and cherax at least below 50, if you have lus. Sawfish is also a possibility.

Wow, i tested Ebisu rod on my Gugs farm last night, i caught 13 within 2 hours, only 3 line breaks. I had 7 success catches in row before 2nd line break. Use only Albatross since I can catch gugs on lu shang rod without Penguin ring.

Who thinks there should be a MMM run involving fishing?

Simply start off with a stack of bait, then use bait to catch fish, trade in fish for special points which you use to buy more bait or access to another room to catch a bigger harder fish, do that through 3-4 rooms and end up VS a legendary fish.

Except maybe have it some uber fish with awesome music, giving your char like 3-4 mins of stamina, almost all of which you use to take the fish down. Finally trade in the fish for an augmented piece of armor, and the rest of your points from the other fish are converted into marbles/exp, plus a marble/exp bonus from the legendary.

Imo that'd be friggin epic.

Dumb question:

For some reason Zaldon wont accept my fish for Inside the Belly quest. I have over 30 fishing skill like wiki requires and hero status fame in Selbina. What am I missing?
