So, would you hold this opinion for someone who's botting HNMs? Because in your assumption, if he's just NPCing fish, he's still getting gil. It becomes acceptable when it's newly generated gil, but not when it comes from another player (putting things on the AH)? Botting HNMs creates an uneven playing field (without getting into more assumptions about competition botting as well, etc., etc.), so according to you, that's wrong. Not trying to start an argument, genuinely confused by your statement.

Anyway, just got to Novice rank, looking forward to collecting enough GP for all the goodies.

Cheating is wrong when your cheating creates an nonlevel playing field, like if he was AHing the fish and ruining your market, or if an athlete uses steroids.

It's not just about him inflating the economy with the gil from his ill gotten fish, but let's not even mention the fact that all the nice bots help to fish out areas and make fishing that more difficult for real people fishing. None of my business? You bet it's my business.

You guys should all GM people using Windower while you're at it. I leveled Summoner to 75 the "honest" way on PC with no windower, and everyone should have to do it that way too. hurrrr

So on the topic of fishing, I am a relatively newer fisher, been fishing in Nash but finally hit 53, and am having some irritation with Ahtapots and comparatively lower bite rates of mercs. Ahtapots are a pain in the ass to fish up sometimes, and I sort of feel that maybe capping on marlins beforehand would be a better use of my resources. Is this something that I should try doing or should I stick to Nashmau till I need to start getting charts?

I would also like to get more use out of my pelican ring. I've gotten maybe .1 skill in nash in 3 or 4 charges of the ring and I'm debating not using it at all. Any advice is appreciated

I would say using the ring in Nash makes more sense than using it on the ferry fishing Marlins because you would get the full benefit of the ring charge, as opposed to having the ferry timing messing you up.

Perhaps use Pelicans in Nash, and when you get sick of it take a break and fish Marlins on the boat without Pelicans?

Lasareth do you have lushangs or albatross ring? I'm at 48 fishing and have been targeting ahtapots/mercs and can usually bring up about a stack or so before my ring effects wear off with plenty of skill ups to boot :3 Definitely wouldn't try ahtapots/mercs without albatross though D:

I've been in nash for a while and I do agree that ferry fishing for marlins is sometimes a nice break when wanting okay skill ups and charts but I never use pelican ring on the ferry x:

I've got a Lu but none of the fishing rings besides pelican. I think I need more practice on Ahtapots because even though I can generally reel them in pretty often I have to frequently resort to tapping which is kind of rough on my fingers.

i can fish up ahtapot with level 18 fishing, sounds like you guys need to move to ps2 or use cpugrabber/cpukiller to decrease your fps

I had a bit of a rough patch in the same position as you 53-56. Before you head out always get bronze coin paid support in whitegate it should help a lot. If I were you I wouldn't use your ring yet since you have so much trouble on Ahtapots. Just tough it out man, once I hit 56+ it was worlds easier for me.

Botting is an extremely grey area you can't apply black and white reasoning too. Feel free to think what you will, but its not always to make tonnes of money and not give a fuck about the economy.

I'm not going to go all white knight, but someone marching in here and telling me that botting isn't cheating can kiss my ass. That's a total crock.

As for bite rates, it might be completely placebo, but i have noticed when there are many people fishing the same thing (think the target fish for fish ranking about a day after it's announced) it seems to affect my bite rate on that specific fish. It's not a huge difference, but it has been enough of one where I have noticed it several times and it has made me wonder about it. Might be some way to keep fishing from pumping too many items into the economy at once in too short a period of time, who knows. Maybe it's just all the 'release' text they spam has made me go crazy.

I assure you other people can not in any way at all ever ever effect your bite rate, another aspect of fish botting is the ability to parse your fish log.

I've sat beside 20 rmts going after same fish and there is no effect on mine.
