My problem is people shitting up a perfectly good thread with their pointless opinions. You want to bitch about what you consider hacking or unfair? Go sign up for a live journal. Let's try to keep this thread to relevant fishing information. The point that bugged me about your post was this:

I know im off topc but want my views on this to be known.
Want my views to be known

Your views are not ground breaking by any stretch of the imagination. All you're doing is picking up a horse that is already dead from repeated beatings and hammering it further. Why do you want your views to be known sooo bad?

I believe PS2 users have an unfair advantage over me because my computer is well beyond the requirements of this old game, and I cannot fish as easily as someone on a PS2.

That's your logic reversed, Triplesea. Just sayin'.

I'm not here to make enemies or stir shit up by any means. I'm new to this thread and was letting others know where I stand on the subject (which in the 100+ pages others have also discussed this subject without getting shit on). I agree that if you only have a PC then slowing it to some degree is necessary. I even asked the GM i talked to "So what am I supposed to do if I didnt have a ps2 and only had PC, just not fish anymore?" to which he didnt reply >.< to anyone that takes my opinion as an attack, it wasnt meant to be and ill try to post more useful info from now on.

It's really idiotic how different fishing is depending on console or PC specs. To this day with Ebisu + moglification + all the goodies I can't reliably land Liks on my dual core, 4gig mem PC even slowing it down. However, I can open my 4 year old dell laptop worth about 150$ and pull up Liks since I was level 90 without a problem using only Albatross.

On the flip side I can't pull up Gugs on the laptop, I can only pull up gugs slowing down my main PC.

It really is baffling, it took me countless hours of trial and error to figure out how to reliably reel in Lik/Gugs and even now I have to jump through stupid hoops to get it done. I feel genuinely bad for people with 100 skill + ebisu who can't reel in Liks/Gugs because of their PC.

Yeah, the way you guys talk about it, I'm glad I still have this computer that I play on now. I'm going to dualboot my iMac eventually, which would just be ridiculously above the necessary specs, but I still plan to fish on this desktop. Gonna be a while though, still plugging away at Istiridye in Nashmau!

Enjoy it while it lasts though. I remember I couldn't wait to get to 53+, then I couldn't wait to get to 90+, then I couldn't wait to hit 100..then once you're there you realize all those line breaks have absolutely no potential excitement following them and it sucks a lot of the fun right out of it lol.

Haha, well I've had my fair share of evening of fishing line break disappointments so far since I'm using a Halcyon rod. Still haven't bothered gathering any GP (busy with other things outside of the game this past week) so I've had to depend on the Robber rig supply from the AH... and for the past few days there had been none. I used crayfish paste, but I'd prefer a lure to bait if it's an option. Luckily four Robber rigs popped up yesterday and I snagged them just in case someone's not using their GP for quick gil once I lose these ones.

I just enjoy fishing because a lot of the time prior to taking my most recent break from the game, I was doing absolutely nothing but staring at my spinning moogle. At least now I'm being productive, making gil, and managing to do it while browsing forums at the same time.

Couldn't agree with this more. I have only had Serpent Rumors for 3 days now but have pretty much spent all my FFXI time fishing Lik and Gugs since. I have my gaming PC (ridiculously over FFXI specs), my general browsing PC, and a pile of old PC's collected from work.

After taking mdkuser's advice and lagging my CPU speed on my gaming PC I was able to get Gugs and Lik to 0 with Lu using Albatross and Penguin at 90 +4 + paid support but it wasn't consistent, maybe 1/5 of the time if that. Earlier today I decided to grab an old Pentium III tower and install FFXI on it. Running around 4-6 FPS I found I could drain Lik with just albatross, have not tried Gugs yet on old PC.

One of my initial goals was to fish all my ebisu fish my self, think it sucks pretty hard that in order to do that I need to play on a TI-82 calculator...

Lol holy shit @ 4-6 FPS. For Liks on the old laptop I use it naturally puts me at 18-22 FPS and seems to be about perfect.

So far my overall results for naked vs apron vs water resist have been interesting.

Normal fishing is showing me capping at about a 2:1 ratio of fish vs items, whereas the apron drops the item bites to borderline nothing (about 1:0.1) but replaces them simply with a "you didn't catch anything"

Water resist is actually giving me some VERY interesting results. It seems to have added an almost reverse apron effect, boosting my item bite rates and replacing the "you didn't catch anything"s with items.

It wasn't nearly as dramatic in my first shot in vunkerl awhile ago, so I think I'm gonna chalk that up to coincidence of me tossing the gear on as a campaign battle ended, which my parses are showing seems to increase no bites by about 20%.

Overall, apron is a lot more situational then we previously thought. It would be very useful for things like matsya and gugrasaures, in which your precious baits on the boat and out in the middle of nowhere are consumed by annoying little itemtype fish like calamary and jellyfish.

In my opinion, if you have ebisu, waders are superior to apron in the +1 skill should lower your line snap rates for liks and gugras, if your fishing those.

Also, I can confirm apron does consider monsters as "items" in its effect.
    Very interesting, ty

about lagging your PC... you only really need to do it for gugrusaurus really. I have no pb with liks for example. Also lowering your FPS too much is counter productive ; at around 15 fps is perfect for me, below 10 they are even harder to catch. There are many ways to lag your pc. for example running your antivirus or DLing stream videos, and its certainly not against the ToS.

Something funny I tried last week... The gugrusaurus are just as hard to catch for a level 100 fisher, as Trumpet shells ( for example) are for a level 0 fisherman.. which makes me think gugus are lv 150+ lol. With a fishing level zero character, using both albatros and penguin ring, I could only deplete 70% of its HP.. but I could catch them with laging PC lol..

SO I'm finally past dils, and if i'm correct you recommended pterygotoswhatevers cd?

I see a lot of people using lugworms on those, is that the recommended bait?

Upto you really, also depends on what rod you're using. This is from my little guide

Stage 3: Option C: Cave Cherax
    Area: Quicksand Caves
Fishing Levels: 86+ or more likely 99-100
    Bait: A MEATABALLS
Notes: These will snap a Lu Shangs and/or your line. If you go this route and do not have WW high enough to repair consider buying multiple Lu's.

Stage 4: Option D: Armored Pisces
    Area: Oldton Movalpolos
Fishing Levels: 86+ or more likely 99-100
    Bait: Sinking Minnow
Notes: These *will not* snap a line or rod if the fish is completely depleted. Bite rate seems to be equal or possibly better than Cave Cherax.

    Stage 5: Option D: Lik/Gugs
Area: Lufaise Meadows, Open Sea Route Mhaura/Al Zahbi
    Bait: Minnow, Meatballs
Notes: If you are lucky enough to have an Ebisu by the time you cap Ahtapot 90 in Talacca Cove skilling off these is a profitable option. I personally skilled 90-100 off Liks and made quite a fortune bazaaring some for 15k and unloading others to lsmates for 10k each and helping them obtain an ebisu. This really wouldn't be a great idea if you had a Lu, but if you were lucky enough to have an Ebisu at this point, the skill ups were quite decent.
Personally I did Liks from 90-100, so its your call.

I only fish liks and gugs when I have a direct buyer, in which case I'll sit and fish for 5-6 hours for them in the name of money =P

Tried cave cherax for quite awhile, its okay but I need a change of scenery, and armored pisces just weren't working, so I'm gonna try pterygotos for a bit.

    thanks

Np, while I was skilling I went out of my way to spread the word that I'd sell Liks directly for 10k each when the going rate was 15k. I pretty much always had a line of buyers.

In relation to the apron let me know if I'm summarizing this right. Apron turns item "bites" into "You did not catch anything" and never into regular fish bites? If so what does that really save you other than some bait and about 2 seconds of canceling the item bite?

If I had to do GPs all over again I'd probably do:

    SR > Signboard > Waders > Apron

I did SR>apron>signboard>working on waders and regretted getting apron before signboard.

It doesn't save much, I suppose back before stamina fishing apron would've been much more useful, as it took out the guessing work of items vs normal fish.

I'm gonna keep watching my parses and see if I notice anything else, but yup I'm still parsing close to the same amount of casts to hit fishing fatigue, but I'm just getting a whole lot more no bites and a lot less item/monster bites...

In all honest, once you cap Mercanbaligi at 86, the best you can do is move to Cave Cherax.

That if you can fix your Lu or got Ebisu.

If you don't have an Ebisu or can't fix Lu, stay in Nashmau with Pterygotus up to 99.

I've mostly just been still following my money ideology, doing gugs and liks for people, just got yet another person their ebisu mat today, random stranger went 1/3 on it @_@

Thats the third person, excluding me, who's gotten an ebisu mat from me in less than 10 trades...
