NPC for around 3600 a stack which is still better than a lot of other fish :/. I've kinda taken the approach mentioned before. Fish for gil and skillups are just an added bonus!

I never did go out and fish more then 15 of any item for GP. Its not worth it If I did plan to fish to cap for the day, to much gil lose.

Actually quite the opposite on Ifrit.

Shall shells seem to be more in demand due to cooking, so there's always RMT cut-throating each other in order to sell faster. As a result, Shall Shells were never in supply. When I was skilling on Istiridye, I was able to drive the price up to 9k whereas the Shall Shells were around 7k a stack (it's swung back around in favor of Shalls now, though). As soon as I would put them on auction, they would sell within a night.

I found a bonecrafter that was buying the majority of mine and offered these to him at a discount (like 7k a stack as opposed to 9k AH) if he bought in bulk. I ended up emptying my nightly catches on him for around 100k, which REALLY helped to clear inventory space. When he started cutting back, I would AH the rest and then NPC anything I had left over.

As for Nash, I dunno why you might be having problems with skill

I walk away from there with anywhere around 1.5 to 2.0 skillups (pelican ring used about 75% of the time, only when biting is good) a night when fishing to cap.

When I actually played in the top 10 (#4) My account was compromised and locked down for about a month. So I was unable to get the ring. Now I'm trying to get one and keep failing lol.

I'm sure it helps out, but I can tell you I still get very decent skillups without it. Fishing in Nash, I just got 2x 0.2's just now within 20 fishes without ring. So I'm sure it helps, I just don't know to what extent.

Yeah, this month's contest on Ifrit is fuggin Tricorns. Eff that. Not spending 30k GP's for Frog Fishing until it become actually useful. And Tricorns are a headache to begin with.

I think the ring doubles your skill up chances.. so.. if you assume that skillups are evenly distributed across both chances... then you will skillup in half the time if you have a ring.

Got my serpent rumors today at 96 :D .1 off my 2nd lik, but they're tough. I guess it's time to start going 0/100000000000000000 on them.

The skillup ring gives you a second chance at skillup, it is possible to get 2 skillups off one fish, though rarely.

Question is..how come after 20+ stacks of these things I haven't even gotten a single 0.1? Most guides I've read say you can catch these starting as early as 11, and with gear I'm at 14. Is that 11 before gear? Either way I'm catching them and not skilling up. Is this just fishing being lame as it usually is, or should I focus on something else for a little bit?

I'm taking the gil maker leveling route, btw.

Cooking is by far the worst thing for GP, whereas Fishing seems like the easiest craft to build up GP from the crafts I've had a contract with. (Fishing, Cooking, Cloth, Goldsmithing, Smithing, Leather). If nothing else, the high point days don't ask for ridiculously expensive/annoying items lol.

Cooking just sucks because even at Veteran rank you'll be cheering when you see an item that gives 4k+ points. There is one item that gives 6700ish points, everything else is 5500 or lower. And Adept days can still screw you with items that give ~3k max <.<

I really wonder what kind of luck/trick there is for skilling fishing. When I spent my time in Nash doing Istiridye it went really quickly, but when my husband went he had a terrible time. He was stuck in the low 50s for what seemed like forever. He actually moved to Merc/Ahatapots because he thought it would skill him faster than Istiridye. I was amazed at how easy Ahatapots were to reel in with only a 50-something fishing skill.

I don't think he's getting skill ups any faster, but he thinks he is so he's bitching less. I'm totally down with that. =)

I went from 11 to 78 in Nash in 1 month so far. It really isn't bad at all. I think what does help is what a lot of fishermen on BG say: fish for gil, not for skill, but be happy when it comes along.

Doing something else like watching TV while you fish makes it infinitely more tolerable too, and takes your mind off always watching for the skillup message.

I watch movies and/or browse BG on my second monitor, it does help a lot to take some boredom away.
