Stupid Sea Horror are the GP for today
Quick test to verify or debunk the theory that levels of water energy add skill levels above +1 from furniture.
Target: Ahtapot (90)
- Should deplete at 103 skill
- Should NOT deplete at 102 skill
Item in question:
MH w/Signboard & Big One
- Powerful water energy
http://www.bluegartr.com/forum/attac...ishingtest.jpg
Fact:
+12 skill over the fish cap will not cause depletion
+13 skill over the fish cap will cause depletion
Running through Nashmau with a composite rod equipped when you have an Ebisu is embarrassing
Tests:
100 + furniture only (101 skill proposed) - No depletion
100 + furniture + fishing tunica (102 skill proposed) - No depletion
100 + furniture + fishing tunica + fishing gloves (103 skill proposed) - Auto depletion
Conclusions:
Urat's theory found below, based on a friend who most likely made it up to cover his botting is FALSE.
weak water energy = +1
powerful water energy = +2
overwhelming water energy = +3
Moglification with powerful water energy still only gives +1 fishing skill.
Further Testing:
If someone wants to test overwhelming go for it, but it doesn't seem worth my time to acquire the furniture and clog up my mog safe. If the theory held water (pun intended) I would have began auto-depleting Ahtapots with only the tunica.
That's cool, sounds like you have a nice little business rolling. That business very well may be more profitable than Nash/Eastern shalls, it all depends how much time you invest into synthing/selling, but that's on you to calculate =p. You probably already know this, but Cone's cap at 48, Bluetail's at 55, and Noble's at 66. You can always stick out your current method until 55 and then buy a Lu/move to Nash. Post 53 is really the sweet spot in Nash because mercs/ahtapots NPC for 600g+ each and bite fast. I'm not sure if you currently have any line breaks/losses based on skill/rod breaks but a Lu will improve that if you do.
You take that back. I bought that rod over 5 years ago and refuse to sell it for sentimental reasons... =P
But yeah, good testing. I was worried I would have to eventually completely overhaul my MH, but given your data I will just have to make slight adjustments to make it water dominant instead of fire someday.
Bolded the important part for this discussion.Originally Posted by Windfoxster

I'm not sure how different the rod action will be on titanictus/ryugu at 75ish with I assume Lu but the tester may need to use ring(s). Personally, I know I was able to tell the difference 90+ with Ebisu because of the rod movement., but I'm not sure lower with Lu.
I have 78 skill and will be picking up Ebisu this Sunday. If anyone has any tests they want me to do before/after I get it post here and I'll see what I can do on Sunday/Monday!
If you're still 78 on Sunday when you get the rod and want to go try Pterwhatevers in Nashmau with lugworms or sinking minnow that'd be awesome. Looking to see if they'll auto-deplete with 0 additional fishing gear/furniture/support. If there's no auto depletion add a piece until there is. We know that @ 80 skill with ebisu it auto-depletes.
cdgreg- thanks for these tests man, that's awesome to know!
Awesome, thank you and congrats. I remember I turned my items in at level 78 but was 80 by Sunday lol. I do want to tell you something though so you're not disappointed, at that level range you may not notice too much of a change from Lu to Ebisu on your regular Nashmau/Talacca skill up fish. However it will eventually shine like no other. When you hit 90 and other fisherman are struggling to find a fish their happy to skill on and you're skilling off 15k+ gugs/liks it's all worth it.
I was disappointed at level 80 since I was hoping for it to basically auto-kill dils for me lol. But now, I sort of view it as a drk getting kraken club early. You get a KC at 63 and you want to be cool and use it but it's really no more special than your top of the line weapon, however, at endgame when you're 75 it's sick and nothing compares to it situationally. Ebisu is the same, it wasn't anything too special at 80 since Lu could do everything I needed to at that point, but damn 90+ I was loving it making millions skilling up and never worrying about breaking.
tests like this almost make me want to come back and help you guys out. GL with the tests! for the 1st time in a long time we are getting solid info on fishing, and it seems to be going well.
If all I did with fishing was Nashmau/Talacca I wouldn't have gotten the Ebisu. The main reason I got it is I love doing Titans on the ferry, but my Lu breaks after ~4-5 usually (Sometimes more, sometimes less, of course) and I don't have WW leveled so I fish on WHM to Altep -> Rabao -> Fix. With Ebisu I'll be able to just stay on the ferry and throw another meatball on the line. Plus I'll have the added benefit of doing Gugs sometimes too without much worry!
Last night I gave in and bought my Lu Shang's Fishing Rod. Making gil already. Haven't seen many skillups, been fishing on the ferry. Been catching Bheflel Marlins and Silver Sharks at 35+4. But they sell 4k each (marlins) on AH so its been good. They sell fast!
So Im working on GP items. After getting SSR, still need to get Waders, Apron, Signboard...and maybe the Fishing Hole Map.
Anyways, I already got "The Big One", so would you recommend I go Signboard > Waders > Apron or.... Waders > Signboard > Apron?
Well for me, i am going for signboard > waders > apron. Because with moglification, it actually says increase chance of reel in? So i believe with it, i have a higher chance to reel in lik/gugru vs +1 skill from waders, no real data to back this claim though.
However this can be tested, switch waders to normal fishing boot at the same time keeping moglification, and reel in lik/gugru.Then remove signboard and equip waders and repeat. Taking down the % of line snap vs reeled, the larger the sample size the more accurate.
In the end, it bores down to what you want to do first. If you wish to purely skill on gugru/lik to 100 then i think signboard might be better. If you just want to do ryugu titan or cherax to 100 then whichever GP is fine. For me, i started lik/gugru at lv90, the line snap is ok for me actually, just the bite rates.
Edit: Just curious, what is the "!" thing that is biting the meatball when you are fishing gugru? Items or jellyfish? Anyone knows? lol
I suppose the "!" for lik is mostly dark bass? They love minnow.

I always took the description as it makes it easier because it gives you a penguin ring type effect. If I had to do it all again I'd do signboard > waders > apron. Apron sucks really if what urat previously tested is true. His parses showed that the apron basically just turns some of your item catches into no catch saving you bait assuming you're not using a lure. I've been considering scrapping the apron and just using +1 body. On the fishing skill vs. break topic I've kept track of gugs I depleted to 0% and then reeled in. It's still a work in progress as it will be for a long time since I just got waders about a week ago =p.
*All tests done with paid support, moglification fishing, and other +1 gear.
Gugs
With normal +1 feet
Catch - 155
Break - 70
Lack of skill - 0
With Waders
Catch - 55
Break - 24
Lack of skill - 0
For Lik, its Tavnazian Goby and Dark Bass
For Gugrusaurus, it probably is Jellyfish. Never pulled up anything "!" on the boat though before with meatball. Could be Rusty items as well.
