It's jellyfish. I learned that the hard way... Got on a boat in Mhaura and didn't check which it was... an entire ride of Jellyfish with me going "wtf?" until I arrived in Whitegate -.-

Parses are showing that the apron is doing absolutely nothing for liks, and I've noticed a decrease of about 5% line snaps using fishing body instead, so in other words fishing tunic is better, but only by a hair.
I use the apron instead just cause it looks cool. As for gugras, apron helps a tonne in preserving bait, my parses are showing about a 25% decrease in bites on jellyfish so its saving about 3-4 meatballs per trip. Other than that, I think Serpent Rumours > Waders > Signboard > apron is best course of action.
I still have my Lu. I was gonna lend it to a friend when I get Ebisu but I can hang onto it for a few days to do some testing np.
The effect (undocumented because I lost my ebisu mule with the apron), was rather nice when I was fishing for Liks. After a few sessions (not going to be statistically significant), I was getting a lot more Lik bites with the apron char than the one without the apron.
Looking at the #s, it appeared that I was getting a ton more rusties and other crap fish with the non apron char than with the apron char.
Well its not decreasing the bites of jelly's per say, as in icnrease bites of everything else, specificly gugs. All it does is make you get a no catch message instead of a item hook.
Since hooking a jellyfish results in the loss of a bait, fishing apron makes your meatballs last longer.
I havent bothered to parse my set liks/hour ratio with/without apron, but over about 200 fish I can definitely say my line snaps go down a hair, 5% like I said, when I get the +1 from tunic.
I think your skill vs fish skill works similiar to synthesis success, where the game does a test for a chance at a line snap based on the gap between your skill and the fish's.
thus the smaller the gap, up until you pass the fish, the lower the chance of line snap if there is one.
Following this, gugs and liks must have a really high skill, compared to, say, cave cherax, which can snap line on lus as well but not nearly as often.
I'd roughly estimate liks/gugras in the 130s, and cave cherax about 110. I'm sure we can find their exact level using this new method.
Liks and gugs are WAY over 130 according go some of the new findings
I sort of wish I had the same luck as some people on liks/gugs. So far I'm 0/215 on liks and haven't even begun gugs. Chances are I might give the record holders a run for their money :D
I did hook a few gugs while fishing zombies for GP though... they seem a lot tougher to get than liks. What would be the best way to approach getting them as a Lu fisher? Would I just be better off selling liks and buying from a gugru supplier? I thought catching liks was slow but wow. 1-2 hooks per boat ride and mostly line breaks/pole snaps. sucks![]()
So I just got 99 off Pterygotus in Nash and decided to move to Oldton to check out Armored Pisces. Is Sinking Minnow a good bait and is the bite rate decent? I'm having terrible luck right now... been like 30 min and I've gotten 2. So many "You didn't catch anything." =\
There isn't much you can do using a lu shang rod besides getting as much +skills as possible including leveling your fishing. As for bite rates, it is better to use the open sea route ships to fish gugru. Even then, the bite rate is meh.
So i would suggest buying ebisu fishes are the best/efficient way. Even for lu shang users on lik, i think it is like 6-7 reeled in per day depending on luck? That is really bad imo.
Sounds like you don't want to break Lu? Try Titantictus with meatballs on Selbina<-->Mhaura ferry. Single ! are silver sharks/rusty (escape if want), and you'll know when a !!! is Ryugu instead of Titan (escape Ryugu). Titanictus give major skills ups, can pull up 2~6 per ferry ride (~15min) even with docking time, should be a better bite rate than Armored Pisces.
If you are staying in Oldton, yes Sinking minnow is best lure. Meatballs are good too, but blindfish bite the hook (maybe save them for GP fish?)
Logged back in this morning, and I'm getting a lot better bite rate on Armored Pisces than I was last night, so it must have just been streaky.
I've found Titanictus bite rate to be amazing, but I can count the number of skill ups I've gotten them on one hand - I alternated between boat and Nash for most of the mid 90s. Thought I'd try a change of scenery since I rode the boat the entire day (and next morning before JP midnight) trying to get Sea Zombies for GP on Friday and only got a .2 on Titanictus while waiting for pirates who never showed. =( Gives me time for my Titanictus Shells to sell, as well.
I might try Cave Cherax and Gugs later this week to run through some of the excess Meatballs I have lying around. Is there anything good I can catch with my left over Lugworms? I'd feel slightly emo if I NPC'd like 10 stacks lol
Huh, something weird is going on. Was fishing while waiting to do Eldieme escort and Black Sole aren't auto-depleting with +0, +1, +2, +3 or +4 on. I'm gonna have to go try Pterygotus again. I'm almost positive it really did though. Maybe the level for auto-depletion isn't the same for all fish.
