Its rare I get any line snaps with my E rod, and even with the Lu shangs is was not bad at 99 skill, I think this is because of my high skill lvl. People aiming for the E rod in the 80's and low 90s seem to get higher line snap rates.
I wouldn't say a line snap is rare by any means. Just an update for anyone curious, will continue to keep track, figure once I have 500+ lik/gugs I'll have a fairly accurate line snap rate. I'm guessing my streak with the regular +1 feet was just lucky as hell since it's much higher than the lik/gugs with waders which are quite similar. This is 100+paid support+all items with Ebisu only counting ones that were depleted 100%

    Gugs
    With normal +1 feet
    Catch - 155
    Break - 70
    Lack of skill - 0

    With Waders
    Catch - 109
    Break - 65
    Lack of skill - 0

    Liks with Waders
    Catch - 108
    Break - 68

Wish I could give you numbers but you seem to fish gugs more? I fish lik a lot more because of the need of only one ring(even with the lower bite rate) not dealing with the boat bla bla.

I never have the +3 skill, maybe I will someday after i get the other GP items ill drop whatever it is on the belt. 3hrs per go is it? thats a few days worth of fishing^^ once I have no need on other GP I could keep the 10k points needed to get it every few days.

After I hit 78 I've been doing nothing but Gugs since I got 78/Ebisu and average about .3 a day if I seriously fish them (i.e. more than just 2 boat rides)

Thanks! I fish quite a bit, but since capping on Aht. and Merc. I only did 1-2 stacks of lugworms evey other day or so. Ptery fishing was a bit slow, but I didn't want to have to run all the way to fish something else.

I think I may focus on some Pisces. I hear they're pretty good to cap on.

I fish whatever there's a market for, and there was a serious influx of gug buyers recently, now it's back to liks lol. Also I only use albatross for gugs, that changed when the ebisu update hit, no longer need both rings. I've actually yet to own a Penguin's ring lol. Paid support is +2 skill, and the belt is only 10k, but I normally just hit up the bronze coin npc next to the fishing guild in whitegate who gives it to me. And ya it's a few hours, either 2 or 3 I can't remember.

Keep track of your stats, it's actually enjoyable since we no longer have skill ups to keep track of and look forward to =(. It also makes the line breaks seem somewhat useful and not a waste of time lol.

    ill try and keep track next time I fish lik. That might not be for a few days because Im getting more into aion ~_~;

    I have no clue what it is about fishing that keeps me playing FFXI, but no joke I think fishing is what makes me log on from time to time. Its been like this for years now and is what did keep me from quitting way back... it also almsot lead me to quit when my account was hacked and I lost my beloved lu shang i fished all myself ; ;

Now that I think about it <3 fishing forever! SE better make a good one in 14 or im be mad and not pick it up.

I fished from 0 > 50ish questing Shang, then I did 50ish > 90 on puuuuuuuuuuuuure gil (can synth shit on a mule for more moneyz), then 90 > 100 on whatever; I remember when I was fishing up Liks I went from 92 > 96 before I got the Opal Silk, thereafter I just did whatever took my fancy, mainly Gugs/Liks/Cherax/Boat-rides-n-catching-Ryugus-for-Marlins, etc~

It's been crazy, but since I got my Ebisu nearly 3 weeks ago, I've made close to 8 million gil from various fishing related stuff (Zaldon, Gug/Lik, Pirates, Food synths).

Skill-up path was actually reallllllllly good for me, and always used a Pelican ring after I got one around level 72ish.

How much of a pain is it to fix Lu's @ Woodworking 70? I'm CC 90 atm and would eventually like to go to 100, but could run WW up to 70 temporarily to fix my rod pre-Ebisu. Pulling down 120-150k a day in Nashmau is nice, but only really buys 5-10 Ebisu fish a day depending on the deal you cut w/ suppliers, and this just seems like it could take forever. Thoughts?

I started repairing my Lu with my mule at 70 WW. I used 2 Lu's while fishing Lik and it would take about a stack of light crystals to repair both. Some times much less, sometimes more. Had a couple bad streaks too where I had to go back to sandy for advanced support cause I kept breaking so many crystals. Its definitely not great, but still definitely better than running to the quest in Rabo every time.

It's level 80 WW, so you still have chance at skill ups on success, deleveling your 90.x craft

I took WW to 75 before IS tarted repairing my Shang. Hit 79 before I got my Opal Silk and thus Ebisu. Now I am stuck with what to do... Take Smith 28, Bone 33 and Gold 40 to Lv60 each with some of the gil I have made from the fishies, and then decide whether or not to persue Woodworking or Clothcraft, which both stand at 79 and 80 atm :\

Ah, that wouldn't be so bad then! I was already 100 on a different craft, so WW was never an option for me. My trek to Ebisu was a bit harder, but in the end it's worth it

    how to reduce line break

currently fishing lik and the line break is killing me.

96.2 fishing skill, Lu + apron + wader + fishing gloves and fishing legs = 96.2+4

    I have alchem 80/ww80

I just started fishing lik today and I get

    11 line break
    3 rod break
    1 lack of skill
    10 lik caught

the catch rate is not great and on top, and more than 1/2 the time, it's line or rod break.

How can i reduce the number of line break? switch from apron to fish body? get a support belt?

    --------------

or just give up, buy the lik and gugru, after getting E rod, then come back to fish Lik/gugru with less line break? and sell the fish back that i bought?

That doesn't really sound that bad to me. Here's my current stats with Ebisu 100 skill + paid/belt support + moglification + waders/pants/hands. Basically as high as you can possibly get without swapping apron for +1 and only recording 100% depleted liks:

    Liks
    Catch - 161
    Break - 91
    Lack of Skill - 1
Overall Successful Reel in Rate: 63.6%

Your numbers put you at 40% success rate with a very small sample size WHILE SKILLING UP. You need to do this: keep track of how much you are making per hour as if you were going to sell the Liks. Then compare that to your best way of obtaining gil per hour forgetting about the skill up factor, or even fishing. While it may seem shitty you are only reeling in 2-3 liks per hour (30-45k) if you can't make more than that doing something else then that is your best bet. Not to mention, you are potentially gaining skill ups.

    thanks for posting your numbers!

it's a huge difference between 40 -> 60 percent. I had 25 bites and if i was at 60% I would have 15 liks instead of 10, which is pretty huge.

I have been here more than 3 hours and just got 10 liks that about 200k (20k each) on my server, AH price. but not exactly sure when i started ><. but i will track it more carefully next time.

but you are absolutely correct, i think my breaking point would be 3 lik/hour, that's probably how much i would make by farming. I will also try the support belt to see if it helps any and get a fishing tunica as well.

just got a +.1 from line break!

Ugh, checked the fish ranking today, and had my second best fish been just 1 point smaller, I would have tied for 20th place. >.<

At least my #1 fish placed in the top 10.

EDIT: Durrrrr, meant top 20, not top 10.
