After 4 boat trips of fishing gugrus, my initial evaluation of the seagull ring is very positive.

You don't get the extra .5~1s of the rod staying left/right as you would with the penguin ring, but the stamina depletion is AT LEAST the same as penguin ring. Could be greater, but I can't say how accurate a statement that might be.

With albatross + seagull, was able to fish up all gugru bites within those 4 boat trips. At one point, I unequipped seagull ring to compare fighting a gugru with/without it. Without it, I got the gugru down to about 50%; with the seagull ring, I drained it completely. There could have been a difference in the difficulty between these two fish, but suffice to say there was a noticeable difference in my ability to drain them.

Edit: I'll use this ring on liks up until I get the Heron ring. I have no trouble draining a liks stamina as is, and drain them 100% of the time using just albatross, so seagull ring might not help me too much . The toughest things with Lik is their regen when you mis-hit, so the Heron ring will probably really shine there.

    Nibu,

Thank you for taking the time to test the ring and report on it for us.

Side note, people are getting the charts and the flat shields (and a new dart) out of the maze... could it be that all the "In the Belly" items could be in there, at very low %'s?

    Hehe, you're welcome!

Hmmn. I was thinking the same thing. I'm not sure whether I'd want to laugh or cry if I saw a saber shoot in the treasure pool...

Fished a total of two hours on the boat, nothing new to report. There was one bite that had me pull the gugru up at 1% due to just about running out of time, but I occasionally got those with penguin ring anyways. I could be unintentionally over-exaggerating my positive experiences with the seagull ring, and would appreciate someone else's experience with it once they get one. The more people who report about it, the more accurate we can understand it.

On a side note: Once I feel confident enough that my 4 penguin rings (2 of them are at 1/2 charges) are not as necessary as they were before, I'm going to go all out on some poor fish. Adv Support +5 fishing skill from gear + Penguin Ring + Seagull ring, and drain the hell out of a moat carp so fast he won't know what hit him.

Also, I'm fishing up more GP for myself, even though I already have each and every item. I'm thinking if I need to offer my apron as a synth material to get that new apron with +1 fishing skill, I may as well have enough GP to buy a spare in case I lose it during the synthing process D:

I got the seagull ring today and did a lil fishing with it. Nothing too in depth though, pretty busy with all the new content still.

I play on ps2 with 100 skill/ebisu/fishing gear/all guild items/using meatballs. First boat ride from whitegate to mhaura I used the seagull ring and an albatross ring along with paid support from the guild in whitegate. I got six gug bites and pulled up five, one line snapped. Never got the warning on any catch. The seagull ring seemed to drop HP faster than the penguin ring does. Though really hard to say for sure, fishing is so easy on a ps2 anyways.

The ride back from mhaura to whitegate I used the seagull ring and the heron ring. I got four gug bites and caught nothing. The best I could do was get one fish to 20%ish, I timed out on every bite. I got the warning on each bite a few seconds after hooking. Was comparable to fishing with only a penguin ring charge on.

Yeah, unless you use mooching/ex bait, nothing is going to be replacing albatross ring anytime soon. But at least they are super easy to get.

I still have like 5 penguin rings, 3 fully charged, and 2 at 80ish charges, so guess I'm not in much of a hurry anytime soon ;(

Also, just did salinity shift. For some stupid reason, only needed 2400 points to win (with both me and greg), and the npcs started with I believe 600, and they raped face.

Took off salinity shift, and won easy using worm lure on the second lake and frog lure on the first.

What do the lu shangs brothers do with all the moat carps we give them? O_o

Some kind of moat carp rehabilitation project they're working on?

Just did a pretty epic MMM run, had 4 fishers, 2 of which are ebisu holders including me, the other 2 lu shang holders with notable skill.

Got salinity shift on third run, so we added that to my tabula (we're all copying off of mine to make it easier) and whoasnap it was hard.

Heres my set up: Supreme might + Lost and Found + Salinty shift(resonating) + Trial by Numbers

We pretty much got our asses handed to us, the brothers pulled up legendaries left right and sideways, but then agai nwe werent prepared with any notable baits so spent the first 5 mins testing various ones out.

We ended up landing a gigant ocopus, couple veydal wrasses, blade fish, and a marlin. Following this I think its safe to say the most effective bait would be sliced bluetail.

So far it seems octopus is at #3, marlin at #2, wrasse/blade at #1.

Next Im saving up for motion over this week, then all I need is goldagriks generosity and conditionign contract and Im gold.

Tried to solo my difficult maze setup 3 times total today. The first one I barely won, and got my seagull ring. The other two I just did, and failed pretty hard.

Hell, I tried a normal, no difficult runes setup too, and I still failed pretty bad by myself.

It just wasn't a very good day of MMM fishing after I got that ring D:

I keep winning mine solo (Might, Motion, Lost and Found, Conditioning contract, Trial by numbers) and all I ever get is the base fish. >_< Stingy Gobs.

What's the consensus for best bait/pool to fish in?
Seems like I keep seeing this:

1st pool (Goblin room) = Sinking Minnow (Giant Catfish)
2nd pool (Turn Left) = Worm Lure (Monke-Onke and Black Eel)
3rd pool (Left and Back) = Worm Lure (Giant Donko)

Not sure if this is accurate, though. Are people seeing better results with different baits? Also, what about fishing at the river to the right? Is it worth it?

I went with Urat tonight and I found that the third pond, one with Giant Donko, even though its good to be able to target them with frog lure I would stick with worm lure. I didn't get any ! bites off frog lure and between mobs and Donko it wasn't worth it. But that's my opinion.

Like he said we got Salinator rune and looks like the best set up would be to use Bluetail to target the big fish there. Hoping for a win tomorrow on that one :D

Nibu, how are you able to solo more than once a day? I'm assuming your bringing mules or other chars in to use their maze. I have a feeling that every extra person you bring in either drops your bite rate or the brothers catch theirs faster. This is just a theory but could be possible. I also won a very hard maze setup solo but had a much harder time on that same maze when using a mule to let my main char in. Again it could all be random with such little test results but somethin to think about.

Is there an updated fishing guide that someone could please link me to? I'm considering leveling fishing but a lot of the guides I have seen don't involve the past or other newer areas.

We really need to try and find a way to maybe get this posted in the OP every few pages we have someone ask. To be fair the thread has gotten huge so not that easy to find.

First off, let me give credit where credit is due:
    http://www.bluegartr.com/forum/49347-fishing-40.html

    Preface
After asking him some follow up questions about bait, zones, etc, here is what I view as the fastest and most profitable fishing to at least 90+, I know there's a lot more to be researched on 90-100, but I'll have plenty of time for that while I fish. First, I'm not sure what level you can begin fishing Istiridye's, they are the Eastern equivilant of Shall Shells and were not only quite easy to reel in at 28, but I also used to fish Shall Shells with 20ish skills in Bub Pen. Secondly, I will assume Lu Shangs fishing rod but you can also use Halcyon, atleast upto 53. Honestly, by 53, you'll probably have made enough to pay for at least half, if not more of a Lu's just NPCing everything. All of this can be done in the Nashmau area, however, if there is a close zone alternative I will include that option.

    Stage 0.5: Nebimonite
    Fishing Levels: 0-27
Area: Ship between Mhaura/Selbina or Sea Serpent Grotto
Bait: Halcyon Rod (or Lu of course) & Crayfish Paste
Notes: Skip moats and hit these up for 27 levels. They sell incredibly fast on the AH for about 9k per stack. To save more gil, buy the crayfish paste at the fisherman's guild for dirt cheap. I'm sure they were exaggerating, but people said they made almost enough to buy a Lu from AHing these from 0-27 instead of spending time on Moats and random other fish. I imagine if you would like you can start Istiridye earlier than 27 assuming you have a Lu, a friend began them at level 7 with a Lu.
***ADDITIONAL NOTE: I've heard Nebs dont bite very well until around 15, so it may be best to just do moats from 0-11.

    Stage 1: Istiridye
    Fishing Levels: 0-53
    Area: Nashmau
    Bait: Robber Rig
Notes: These are incredibly easy to reel in and stack. If you are a bit patient they will sell on the AH for 7k a stack, or find a high level bonecrafter who synths them into black pearls and sell to them directly for a negotiable price. They also NPC for 300ish gil. I made 70k my first day just NPCing these while racking in a couple fishing skill levels from 30-33ish. I currently dbox them to a high level bone friend for 5k a stack.

    Stage 2: Mercanbaligi & Ahtapot
    Fishing Levels: 53-86
    Area: Nashmau
    Bait: Shrimp Lure
Additional Location: Talacca Cove, W exit of Nashmau through Caederva Mire near Einherjar entrance.
Notes: A friend prefers Talacca Cove, the difference is in Talacca you will also fish up Dil's which you will not in Nashmau. NPC rates seem to vary on these from about 600g on Mercs to 700gish on Ahtapots. Mercs are the Eastern equivalent of Bastore Breams and Ahtapots are the Eastern equivalents of Grimmonites. Dil's npc for almost 800g each and are the eastern version of black sole which cap at 96.

[i]This is where a few options seem to open:

    Stage 3 Option A: Pterygotus
    Area: Nashmau
    Fishing Levels 86-99
    Bait: Lugworm
Notes: Biterate is acceptable, and these will not break a Lu.

    Stage 3 Option B: Dil
    Area: Talacca Cave
    Fishing Levels: 86-96
    Bait: Shrimp Lure
Notes: You will also hit Mercs (single !) which are already capped, and also Ahtapots (!!!) which cap at 90 but the bite rate of hooking dils is similar to Pter's and you will make nice gil off the other 2 fish in the meantime.

Stage 3: Option C: Cave Cherax
    Area: Quicksand Caves
Fishing Levels: 86+ or more likely 99-100
    Bait: A MEATABALLS
Notes: These will snap a Lu Shangs and/or your line. If you go this route and do not have WW high enough to repair consider buying multiple Lu's.

Stage 4: Option D: Armored Pisces
    Area: Oldton Movalpolos
Fishing Levels: 86+ or more likely 99-100
    Bait: Sinking Minnow
Notes: These *will not* snap a line or rod if the fish is completely depleted. Bite rate seems to be equal or possibly better than Cave Cherax.

    Stage 5: Option D: Lik/Gugs
Area: Lufaise Meadows, Open Sea Route Mhaura/Al Zahbi
    Bait: Minnow, Meatballs
Notes: If you are lucky enough to have an Ebisu by the time you cap Ahtapot 90 in Talacca Cove skilling off these is a profitable option. I personally skilled 90-100 off Liks and made quite a fortune bazaaring some for 15k and unloading others to lsmates for 10k each and helping them obtain an ebisu. This really wouldn't be a great idea if you had a Lu, but if you were lucky enough to have an Ebisu at this point, the skill ups were quite decent.
    ____________________________

    TLDR Fishing for Dummies Version:
    All done in Nashmau:
0-53 Robber Rig, Istiridye (If no Lu, Halcyon to 27 on Nebs)
53-86 Shrimp Lure, Mercanbaligi & Ahtapot
86-99 Lugworm or Sinking Minnow, Pterygotus
99-100 QSC, Meatballs/Cave Cherax OR Oldton Movalpolos, Sinking Minnow/Armored Pisces, OR Lik/Gugs Minnow/Meatballs

I was just thinking, what if you need to get the item from all or different fishes by trading to Zaldon, in order to make him accept new fishes? Anyone in here has got like every item he can give? I know it sounds crazy but maybe SE has that hidden <.<; also... anyone with ebisu crazy enough to keep trading Liks and Gugs? maybe anotehr item is hidden lol

If you do it in reverse your character goes super slow. This works absolutely amazingly for fishing, as it doesn't reduce your fps, just slows the whole thing down. Thus you dont get that annoying choppy fps from lagging programs.

Simple open up notepad and write this in it.

    Code:
    time 1:1:1 PM
    time 12:12:12 PM
And save it as lagprogramorwhatever.cmd or .bat

Run it and you'll either go into super fast mode or bullet time. Do it a few times until your as slow as you need to be and start fishing.

Im pretty sure this is undetectable, and really is no worse than using a lag program itself, aside from how much higher quality it is using this =P
Pretty sure this is a really, REALLY bad idea. If I recall correctly, people used to get banned for manipulating their taskbar clock because it would allow them to run faster than normal. I'm sure making it so you move/run/fish slower is equally naughty.
