Hey nitsuj you're a sweet coding guy. Do you know of any way to somehow bind "release" to a G-key?

I do most of my fishing while reading various forums, and the only time I have to currently switch back to main ffxi screen is when I have a bite to release/reel in. If it's a no bite I just hit G-18 that has /fish in it. Up to this point no one has been able to figure out a way to take the "release code" in the Escape button and put it in a G-key so that I can release without bringing ffxi to the forefront. It'd really rock if I could cast/release while looking at firefox unless I see a !!! and then flip to FFXI in the forefront and reel it in.

Obtained from Inside the Belly by trading Zaldon a Gerrothorax. I am curious now though if it's just recently added Inside the Belly items or we'll see opal silk/saber shoot from a certain maze setup.

I cant even deplete liks past 80% stamina with albatros + seagul ring or heron ring: seriously wtf did I waste my time with those rings?? Never had any issue with albatros+penguin, caught 500+ so far... wow ; ;

Okay I've been trying out some salty rune 117 maze now. So far I found Veydal Wrasse (352pt) in Pond 1 with Minnow. Pond 2 had some Rhinochimera (450pt) with Sinking Minnow and Gold Lobster (150pt)(shrimp lure may have just been lobster only). And Pond 3 I couldn't get a big fish, only Ogre Eels (50pt). Been trying Sinking/Minnow/Shrimp, yet to try Frog/Worm.

Maze only needed 2k to win, but since fish are worth less, it evens out. Also, I seemed to get a huge hurt in marble reward. And my 1st/only Pirate's Chart was on a rune 117 run...that could just be a coincidence though.

I tested the rings today against my arch-foes the Liks.

The 641 that I have caught so far have been with Albatross/Penguin I have no issues depleting 99% of the Liks with these rings.

My first test was with Seagull/Heron That did not work. I timed out with only about 25% of the bar depleted. There was a clear lack of regen on the fish, but there simply was not enough time to wear it down.

So I switched to Seagull/Albatross. Ok, this worked. The Stamina depletion with the Seagull is about the same as the Penguin, with one difference, the rod does NOT stay to the left or right for long periods as it does with the Penguin. So you need to be much more on the ball to catch the depletions. I lost a few fish to not getting the bar down, but I figure I can deplete the majority of my bites with this combo. The Stamina bar does go down a lot when you catch the sides right, so the Seagull ring is a winner.

I Hooked 17 Liks in one hour and twenty minutes, caught 6, lost 1 to 'lack of skill' 4 to rod breaks, 2 to line snaps and 4 to running out of time and not depleting them enough.

And no, I found no silk. 0/647 now. I'm still paying for that 1/14 Saber Shoot.


The Heron ring looks to be very good for a fish you have time to play with that has big regen. It seems to cut that down by a good bit.

I've only ever gotten Brigand's Charts from freshwater runs. Has anyone ever gotten a pirate's chart from freshwater MMM?

I can re-cast by pressing G-18 which simply has /fish in it while looking at BG, but if I get a bite I need to cancel I can't release the fish without minimizing BG and clicking on the FFXI window and pressing escape. I'd love to be able to somehow release the non-gugrusaurus without minimizing BG/bringing FFXI to the front.

Ya they're godly. Basically when you hit a Gkey the command is sent through all windows. So I did something basic like /ma "cure III" Cdgreg, logged in 75rdm PL/minimize, log in myself and then PL without ever even looking at the other screen. This is also why I can re-cast when I get a no catch without minimizing firefox. I don't even begin to use it to its capabilities but definitely worth it, put it on your christmas list!

Just make sure you get the one with 18 G-keys. The new G15 only has 6

So, i found a pretty cool looking fishing maze to copy... Salinity Shift, Peon (200 point lead), Silence, guide pearl, and some others (2000 points to win), and nothing that increases difficulty. I figured it would be simple enough...

Let me ask: Is the bite rate always so miserable? I tried sliced Bluetail, minnow, sinking minnow, shrimp lure and meatballs. The pond was sparkling so there were fish in there.

1st time through I got 2 fish; Veydal Wrasse and something else (and a few monsters). I timed out/lost.
2nd time, I grabbed a friend to help and we each got 1 fish each (and a couple monsters)... lost.
3rd time same thing.

Am I missing something, or is it pretty much necessary for a full party of fishers to win this?

Don't use salinity shift.

And yes, bite rates suck. Worm lure on 2nd pond/frog lure on 1st pond is pretty decent for non-salinity shift, and you should be able to solo it even giving the npcs an advantage. (With Ebisu, anyway. Should be even easier if you use runes like peon and don't give them advantage)

I've been using Worm/Frog lures, but don't really know which rod (Composite/Halcyon) to use seeing as I don't have Lu's. Which rod lure combos do you guys suggest? Thanks in advance.

If i could just add something to your question, what level fishing can you start trying to get these rings at? Right now im 28 fishing (really just started getting back in to it so i haven't even started to level it again) and i just bought Lu Shangs.
