Dropping a quick update.... 92.3, still 0/20 on both liks and gugs, got rumors, though. Still primarily fishing Pisces and whatever GP fish is if I don't have them stocked on a mule.

On Phoenix we learned from the contest that Three-eyed Fish go as long as 115, not the 114 otherwiki listed (I've since updated it).

So, I'm on the Open Sea route, doing my gugru fishing, when I see something a bit suspicious.

An individual is using an Ebisu and Meatballs (no fishing rings or any other fishing gear, and I'm sure they were meatballs, not ex bait), and is catching gugrus after only a few seconds of getting a bite on their line (not sure exactly how many seconds...maybe 5-10). It also looked like they were taking a few seconds to cancel all non-gugru bites (suspicious in that it's obvious when you don't have a gugru bite, and you should be able to cancel it fairly quickly). They were also not responsive for the entire boat trip when I asked them "How are you able to do that", but when we docked, they "winked" at me, and they said was it was because of "skill" that they could catch gugrus like that. (That kind of irked me a bit...I felt as though I was being talked down to.)

Now, unless the PS2 makes THAT much a difference, is there any other explanation for this behavior that doesn't involve 3rd party tools?

I went ahead and submitted a report to STF to investigate the matter, so I'll leave it up to them to find out whether the person was cheating or not. However much I want to call this person out, though, since I'm not 100% sure they're cheating, I don't want to defame their name.

I realize it's beating a dead horse, but it's frustrating to see people still managing to cheat the fishing system. After all the hard work and time I've put into fishing, people manage to make the same progress automatically, and simultaneously ruin the market. While it doesn't make it "right" for this person to cheat (if they are, indeed, cheating), I'm hoping that when they get their partner an ebisu rod (they aren't selling the fish atm; just helping the other person to get their rod), that they don't continue fishing for profit, and will maybe just be satisfied having a "relic" rod.

Pretty disgusting and lazy. Albatross rings are 100% drop, and all I need for legit catches is that ring (Seagull+Heron still isn't enough normally).

Aye. I know Lik only gives you a few seconds without an albatross ring, but I don't recall if Gugrusaurus are the same way. Even supposing that my 5-10 second estimate is off, would you still say that catching a gugrusaurus without an albatross ring is impossible? At least in my own experiences with 100 fishing, ebisu, meatballs, +skill equipment, and seagull/albatross combo, it still takes a long while to fish them up (I occasionally get the running out of time message, still).

Yea, even on PS2 or a massively lagged down PC and no rings getting a Gug down to 50% would be impressive, no way you could catch one...

I spoke with one of the individuals that is receiving fish from the "suspected," and they did mention that they use PS2 and XBOX (not sure which person plays on what). Actually, the individual I spoke to uses the "suspected's" account to fish, since they know each other irl.

They were taught to fish gugrus by another party, and as for technique, they "do something weird" with the keys, instead of just holding the buttons down (probably tapping method?). Fishing gugrus "isn't that bad."

Maybe I'm just so sorely wanting to believe that they aren't botting, because that would make me feel a lot better; I want to give them the benefit of the doubt. Were I to go out and try to catch gugrus without rings right now, I'd probably call their bluff again.

I despise contacting STF when I'm not positive whether one is cheating or not, so I feel a bit bad having already done it. But I guess it's up to STF now to discover whether this person is cheating or not, and to take action if necessary.

Other fake edit: It looks like both toons are in Talacca Cove tonight. I'm not going to keep tabs on them for my sanity's sake, but maybe they bot fish there overnight for skillups/NPCable fish. I remember seeing a lot of botters there when I was skilling up, and since you can't do a /sea of the area from the outside, it makes it harder to track bot fishers in that area. And if they're bot fishing for NPCable fish...well, it still impacts the market via inflation, but at least it has less of an immediate effect on me and my gugru/lik fishing (this doesn't justify botting in my opinion, though; I know others who disagree on this).

Yarr...I imagine since all they need now is opal silk to get ebisu for another character, that they're in Lufaise Meadows fishing lik atm (probably without rings again...though all it would take is an albatross ring to fish those up legitimately).

However I'm going to spare myself from actually checking through /sea, because I need to focus on rl work, and I've already done as much as I can do by reporting them (though when the other two characters get their ebisu rod and potentially bot as well, well, those are two more reports that may need to be sent).

It's bad enough that these matters are distracting enough in-game, so I'm going to try and leave those concerns in-game when I'm focusing on rl matters.

On another note, the gugru/lik market has slowed down significantly this past week on Carbuncle, at least judging by the small amount of gugru/lik that are being sold via my bazaar next to Zaldon (the only bazaar, btw). Even if new ebisu holders enter the market at this point, I think they'll quickly see that it might be in their best interests to fish something else for the time being (I'm stubborn and have no inventory atm anyways, so I'll stick with ebisu fish).

The Lik/Gug market fluctuates drastically, you'll have 3 buyers for a few weeks, then 0 for a month. Just do your best not to lower prices during that down period, the reason you won't be selling any is because there's no buyer, not because lowering the price 3k per fish is going to make them come running.

IMO 20k is a gouge and will turn off buyers, 15k seems pretty fair for all parties involved, and fuck 10k, won't find me fishing them for that price.

In response to your question about keyboards on consoles, the answer is yes.

I've played both console version with the same USB keyboard taken off that old logitech PS2 keyboard/controller thing.... actually, this thing:

The keyboard part separates and can just be plugged right into a 360. Sadly, I can't report on how well it works for fishing, as I no longer have it and I now play on PC with a G11.

I also turned the other crafting/fishing results filter ON. I got too angry one day watching a Lu fisherman catch like 3 gugs per boat ride while I was having a bad day averaging 0-1. It adds quite a bit to peace of mind lol.

Hello, I'm currently working on obtaining my ebisu (1/17 Liks and 0/20 Gugrusaurus) and have heard that if you have a slower machine or PS2 it will make it easier to catch Gugrusaurus. Can anyone give me some pointers on the best way to do this? I am able to catch Gugrusaurus some of the time before time wears off (using Albatross and Penguin), but there are still a lot that I am not able to deplete in time.

Get a ps2, a crappy PC, some people will run a movie or hd movie in the backgroud while fishing to slow it down but for some that makes their fps jump around too much. Also can look into programs that will slow your pc but how much you slow it borders on cheating in my opinion but thats another story. I wonder what fishing is gonna be like on 14. Cant Wait!

You can also use a program call cpukiller to slow down your machine. There are other programs that do the same thing, but I've only tried this one and it works very well.
