Anyway, today was the first time since being a Veteran fisher that Gavial Fish was the GP. I went to drachenfall and fishing behind it got really, really laggy all on its own. So laggy, in fact, that it actually made it more difficult to fish. I haven't started my lik/gug fishing yet, but now I'm concerned that the slow down method won't actually help me.

Sounds like what you saw was graphics slowing down, not cpu. Two different things.

You can control how much your cpu is affected and tweak it until you find what setting works best (often different locations will have different "best" settings). It's not like it's all or nothing.

Once you get to that point you will understand. The thing I noticed most was that gugs insane auto regen went way down with some lag. If you go overkill on it then it doesn't work either.

Aye. I know Lik only gives you a few seconds without an albatross ring, but I don't recall if Gugrusaurus are the same way. Even supposing that my 5-10 second estimate is off, would you still say that catching a gugrusaurus without an albatross ring is impossible? At least in my own experiences with 100 fishing, ebisu, meatballs, +skill equipment, and seagull/albatross combo, it still takes a long while to fish them up (I occasionally get the running out of time message, still).

Lik gives about 20 seconds iirc, and gugru 15. With lagged pc, I can manage to catch a Lik, but its tough and obviously not worth it when getting an albatross is so easy. Gugru's are absolutely impossible without albatross, idc what you are using.

I wouldn't even bother using the ex bait for Lik/Gug, minnows/meatballs do just fine and you can get both cheap form the guild. Lik and Gug are the only !!! bites that put up any kind of fight in their zones so it's really easy to single them out and cancel everything else.

Personally I'd save the EX bait and catch some Matsya once the Ebisu is completed

Ya or just /toss the ex bait to free up inventory space and continue to fish lik/gugs with minnow/meatballs both now and when you get ebisu.

I've gotten my ex bait from charts only, and haven't even attempted to pull up Cave Cherax or Sea Zombies yet. I couldn't fathom throwing them away. I'm still slowly chugging along on Pisces at 94.6 with a borrowed Lu Shang's. Once I hit 100 I'll see how difficult obtaining the ex bait is (waiting for pirates has to be a bitch) while I continue to work towards Ebisu.

I've still yet to get serious about MMM fishing (tried it once with jp friends and kinda flubbed my way through) - do the ex bait drop directly from MMM or is it just the charts along with the rings and misc. fish?

Good luck with that. Went for the fun of it yesterday to try Matsya. 10 EX baits with me, my Ebisu, my gear +5, my moglification, blah, blah...

Only one Matsya of out 10 baits (got monsters an lolCobaltJellyfish) and when I depleted (Albatross used btw) line breaks.

So yeah...

Eventually I will come back and try to reel one and keep it as a personal trophy but honestly...wtf...

Makes me sick to think I have to come back to QSC again to reel Cave Cheraxs...(did 90 to 100 there)

It is not hard and doesn't require special technique, just like a normal fish. Just that the bite rate is gay and reel rate is random. I went 1/1 though ;D
After that, it never bite my rod anymore, basically just monsters.

I'm clearly missing something here so I apologize but sh are you collecting the rare/ex bait? Is it just to hook a Matsya as an epeen bazaar trophy? If so I get that, but otherwise why?

Yeah, now it's just for Matsya. I'm learning as I go here, which is why I'm asking lots of questions. I just assumed I'd use my ex bait for liks/gugs until I got Ebisu... then get more ex bait for Matsya. But in this thread I've learned that it's kind of a waste to spend ex bait on liks/gugs (and probably on Matsya too, but what're you gonna do there?) so I've changed my plans.

Hell, after actually attempting liks/gugs, I may just say fuck it and fish dils or black soles and work 'em up to sushi for gil to buy the Ebisu fish. There's certainly no shortage here on Phoenix.

Well, it finally happened. Today, after months and months of fishing, I finally caught my first...

I'd gotten a lugworm belt from rvb and headed to Nash after Ein last night to pull up some ptery's. It got too late and I went to bed with about a stack of bait left the I figured I'd finish off in the morning. When I woke up my chatlog was full of the same dude fishing up mercan/ahtas with a full inventory for several hours. Busted.

GM'd him, GM was understanding and the dude was gone in 10 minutes.

Anyway, now up to 95.1 thanks to the Ptery's and hating on SE for choosing largest Titanic Sawfish for this current contest.
