I'd gotten a lugworm belt from rvb and headed to Nash after Ein last night to pull up some ptery's. It got too late and I went to bed with about a stack of bait left the I figured I'd finish off in the morning. When I woke up my chatlog was full of the same dude fishing up mercan/ahtas with a full inventory for several hours. Busted.

GM'd him, GM was understanding and the dude was gone in 10 minutes.

Anyway, now up to 95.1 thanks to the Ptery's and hating on SE for choosing largest Titanic Sawfish for this current contest.

Somewhat related, earlier this week I was informed that the person I suspected of using a 3rd party tool to fish liks/gugs, as well as the two other characters they were fishing these fish for, have all disappeared from Carbuncle. The person who /telled me made it sound like they server hopped, so while the problem is out of my own hair, it might spell trouble for any of you

I just got a Seagull and Heron ring from MMM recently and noticed that no new symbol shows up when I have Fishing Support and these rings equiped. Is there any way to know if they are actually active besides fishing and seeing if there is a difference?

Quick question.

So I have to characters that I use (one's fishing is at 55 the other approaching 78) I have a lu shangs on both. I'm also near 95k guild points with the one on 78.

When I go for the ebisu, should I sell both my lu shangs and hope 6mil will get me the 2 items. Then I would fish up the rest for my other character. Or should I just do it the slow and steady route?

Basically asking the chances of getting both items with 6mil

When I did my Ebisu I did some buying and some fishing of my own. My total was 2/215 on both items. I spent maybe 1-1.5mil buying fish before I gained access to an account with 75 Woodworking, then began to fish my own. Personally I would hang on to the Lu's.

While there's a chance you'll sell a Lu and be one of those guys who goes 1/5, 1/17 on both items, there's also the chance you'll sell both rods and come out with 0 to show for it. Unless you have to have this rod before next conquest tally I'd just suggest fishing other profit fish with the Lu's and using that money to buy Lik/Gug. Hell even if you just skill up both characters to 90 in Nashmu, the money from NPC-ing would get you 10-20 Ebisu fish per day (server prices and bulk deals may vary).

I just finished and I paid out just unter 7.2M buying fish exclusively, and I was getting a really good deal buying my gugs in bulk.

As was suggested, you're better off just continuing to skillup as you go and buy fish when you have the money. Keep in mind there might be times when the Bazaars are empty...like if you're trying to get them at the same time as someone like me who would literally empty them if they were 15k or under at least once a week. So it's not all that likely you're gonna be able to blow through all that 6M if you needed to at once anyway.

Then you spend 2 hours on the ferry fishing and let's say you catch 6...which could perfectly happen depending on your level, etc...

You go and trade them to Zaldon and got nothing...

Notice this is the 10th time or so you doing so, so your frustration skill is about to be capped by now.

Then you realize NEXT to Zaldon there is a nice naked mithra selling Gugs for 18k apiece...and OMFG the mithra has 30 Gugs!! And the temptation comes!

You think today is your day!! It's FULL MOON after all !! You can't resist and buy the 30 Gugs, total 540k...OMG OMG ! Trade them all....and nothing....

And you die a little inside.

Thanks God I don't have to go over Ebisu quest again. Insane.

See I think like you Al when it comes to ppl with fish in bazaar. Which is why I am 1/19 on Gug, 0/401 on Lik and have spent 7.4M so far >.>. Now I have a friend selling to me for 9k a piece and Will be buying 30 of them from him soon.

They are going for 18-19k. Sometimes you find them for 15k in a bazaar. But ls mate is catching them on mule and selling me to me 9k each so it all works out best.

Caught my first Lik today. Used Alba/Penguin with Lu's and Minnow, Adv. support, body/hands/legs/waders. My second cast was a !!! with a terrible feeling and it was much easier than I thought... as the stamina got down towards 0 I half-worried I'd pull up some NM or something (does Lufaise even have that sort of thing? Guess I should've checked first).

Only got one more bite on my first alba/penguin charge and was able to catch that one as well. No broken lines or Lu's yet....... Guess I'm lucky.

Anyway, it was exciting to me, so I felt like sharing.

Nope using minnow for Liks and meatballs for Gugs and !!! terrible/sure you don't have enough skill will be Lik/gug everytime. No nms or monsters.

But of course that's just an average and you can bite the curb or get lucky as hell. Also as someone else mentioned it depends a lot on your server. Some servers have fish constantly selling from the AH for 8-9k, while others have no AH history and all sales are done through bazaars at 15-20k a pop. Obviously that's twice as many fish for your gil if you're on a cheap server.

a couple of years ago while i was working on my ebisu, i was writing a blog that i posted on titanictus.com about the elemental properties of liks, when the best time to fish them, etc., and at the time, since i was crunching numbers, collated the known info of people who had ebisu.

the statistical average at the time was 1/138 for lik and 1/320(ish) for gugrus. i went 1/139 on liks, but 1/44 on gugs. the averages still hold up fairly well, despite all these people going full items with 50 combined fish lol.

(and if you're wondering, watersday to iceday full moon will give you the best bite rates on liks... firesday is also good, earthsday is not. my highest "catch" rate - actually receiving a fish - was windsdays, where i averaged at 41.17% catch rate out of bites landed, and lightningsday my lowest at a 20.1% catch rate)

Well I've called it quits for the day. 7 ring charges, 25 hooked fish. 9 of them caught, 12 line breaks, 3 rod breaks, 1 lack of skill loss. Not bad for a rookie. Not as discouraging as I'd expected.

I went to Quicksand Caves yesterday and filled my inventory of Cave Cheraxs, didn't really count them. Got 10 Dwarf Pugils off Zaldon and headed to Vunkerl Inlet [S]

Surprisingly I got two Matsya baits and reeled both 2/2 yesterday. The other eight baits were monsters or single "!"

Biggest was 766 - 3767. Geez that is a BIG type of fish.
I think Matsya is the biggest fish ingame, but I could be wrong.

I felt quite "accomplished" although it's not particularly difficult to reel them.

Matsya issues are:

1) You need EX bait. Apparently Dwarf Pugil works better (TBC)
2) Getting the EX bait takes time...
3) They don't bite a lot and you get a lot of junk...
4) Line breaks are supposed to happen often.

I am keeping biggest as a bazaar trophy 99,999,999 (lolme) and will npc the other one. They say I'll get 25k off the npc.

Went 1/1 on a Lizard lure this morning and then 0/11. Going to fish up some Gavial Fish and hq some gavial scales and see if theres profit in that because I know a lot of up and comers in the Bonecraft area. Also anyone on fairy wanna buy a Lizard lure for 75k?!

Pelican Ring question: Is there any chance the effect stops say, after level 95? The last two levels have been old school. This isn't just over a few days, but weeks. It's far more common for me to get no skills on a charge than a .1. (Ptery's in Nashmau if that helps). Literally came to a grinding halt as soon as I hit 95, burned off AT LEAST 50 charges these past two levels to get to about 97.2.

It's not a dry spell, it's too long. I could get occasional duds on charges before, but NOTHING like this.

I have 56 charges left and figure i'll see 0/180, before I see 100 at this rate! Actually considered trying to enter the last contest but it was Liks on my server again...

Is it just me and a terrible long-pattern of back luck?
