1. I have mooching, so will using ex bait AND albatross ring at the same time be redundant (since mooching + ex bait = increases fighting duration)? Or should I use penguin/seagull ring combo instead? Not that it's going to make a difference, I'll still hopefully drain them easily, but just curious.

2. What would be the best time (or even best location?) to fish them? Does it matter whether it's full/new/whatever moon phase? I know the only other thing that will bite besides mobs and items are jellyfish, so not sure whether going on a fullmoon would increase jellyfish and matsya bites equally, or whether one would bite more often than the other.

3. How many matsya can I expect to successfully reel in after 125 bait? Obviously there will be lost bait due to other bites, as well as line snaps. (Speaking of, I'll be sure to reel in any items that get on my line to keep my bait).

Wow, that's a lot of dwarf pugils. My experience is limited with matsya, fished them only 4 times. At the time I went after them it was before seagull ring so I used albatross/penguin. Fought just like a gugrusaurus with more health. I would like to try seagull/penguin ring on them though if I ever get more ex baits. For location wiki says east bridges only, I caught them at the F-6 bridge. Not sure on best time, only tried full moon. My catch/ex bait ratio last time I tried was 3 matsya from 2 1/2 stacks of bait.

Thanks, I'll give it another go tomorrow using lures instead of MMM Bait with a freshwater and see how it goes.

If you're using an MMM rod (i.e. don't have your own lu shang's), I wouldn't go with the worm lures everyone mentions. There's a small fish in there that will break your line. I lost like 5 or 6 lures before switching to...

I still swear by trout paste for freshwater MMM. You can get Giant Catfish AND black eels from the first pond with it, and just about every high-scoring fish will bite it. That's at the sacrifice of monke-onke in the second pond, but I spend as much time as possible at the first pond, only moving if the sparklies go away. And you can get Giant Donko at the third pond, but I haven't done much fishing over there.

I do this maze daily in a 3 man team. Using Lost & Found, Supreme Might, and Amnesiacs Trial (and maybe Trial by Numbers, can't recall offhand) gives us a target of 3600 and the elfs get a 540 head start. One of us goes to the catfish pond, one to monke-onke, and a third to the river uphill to the right of catfish. The first 2 get the large fish and swap, while the third covers the river, and usually we've passed the first status update by the time we've got 2 monke & 2 catfish bagged.

Then, we all converge on the river and fish till it's out, then drop a BOMB of fish all at once. This seems to help keep the rocs & colibri off our back until we've suddenly got 3000 points or so, then a couple of big fish later (or more smalls, we mix it up) and game over.

For bait we use minnow at catfish & river, and shrimp lure at monke pond. This gets nothing but catfish & monke, with pipira being the main target at the river.

One thing I've always wondered about MMM. The gobby says that you shouldn't be 'greedy' and try to turn in more than one big fish at once or more than 3 little fish. But is there a hard programming limit which enforces this? If you have a catfish will it prevent you from fishing up any more catfish? The same with 3 black eels.

If I recall it gives you the full inventory message when you catch a second big fish or fourth small fish of same type.

Yea no kidding, takitaro are still annoying as hell with 100 fishing and ebisu... had to fish some of those bastards for gp the other day. I timed out on 2 of them even though I was slowing my computer

My mmm's are spent astral burning and the days we don't go I'm usually doing something else. My playtime isn't what it used to be so I'm content to sit on my 6 albatross rings and 3 penguin rings till they run out. Hell, I haven't even bothered fishing for gil in a couple months ;\

Ended up getting 24th place with a fish that was 337. All the sites I looked at said that the lowest you could catch them was a solid 305 - some fucker turned one in for 293, lol.

Site sizes are generally off. Can usually catch one atleast 5-10% bigger, and one 5-10% smaller.

I figured there was a small margine for + or -... The one 293 that won, was the only fish under 305, so it must be rare. Makes sense that sites would say 305.

Now go for Moglification: Fishing and Seagull ring (or gil fish if you have those)
