Yeah I am using a shrimp lure, but there are a few times where I can go 10 casts without a bite, but this is rather rare. I also zone when I go NPC the fish I do catch. Maybe my expectations are too high after spending so much time in Windy fishing carp and getting a bite virtually every cast. But seeing you say the bite rate is 25%+ makes it seem a lot more tolerable.

Yea, it's been discussed a couple times in this thread, but I've easily had 20+ didn't catch anything streaks in nash, I'm pretty sure there are ss's in this thread somewhere too. Normally the bite rate is 75%+ though, it just seems every once in awhile all the fish went to sleep for a few mins.

There will be times when it's "fished up." You can during those times goto Talacca Cove, or atleast when you're a little higher go there. If you want to be safe just cancel any !!! without positive not enough skill/terrible feeling.

I generally just did something else for a few hours when that happened or went to talacca. You may find talacca harder because for me there was less natural lag, which made the fish fight a lot harder, but that depends on your setup.

Nashmau is probably around 25% for merc/ahtapots if I remember right, but it's been atleast a year. If you're super pro you put /fish /echo cast cast cast cast cast in a gkey so you can re-cast without bringing ffxi to the forefront. That way you can read firefox and only switch to final fantasy when you actually have a bite.

Really? Well I never payed attention so I never noticed. In my server AHing any of the Nash fish is not worth it. Neither are Dil from Talacco Cove. They never caught on with crafters on the AH and Black Sole market just overshadowed them. Shame, rather get 13k per stack than 8.4k :/

last time i fished these (it's been a while, before i got my ebisu), i used a fly lure and had absolutely no difficulty reeling them in with no rings. i don't remember the bite rate being spectacular, probably comparable to the bite rate of gavial fish... you may go for stretches without them, but you should be able to get a reasonable amount with little difficulty.

Thanks for the info, it was a false alarm. I was going to help an lsmate fish some for the fishing competition but there was 3 more days of results being posted, not 3 more days to turn fish in lol.

Managed to hit 54 Fishing and a Heron's Ring in the same MMM run. Feel like I'm making pretty good progress. Should have sold my stuff and bought Lu Shangs long before I turned in nearly 4000 carps, but meh. If I plan on staying in Nashmau til around 90, would it be best to pick up Serpent Rumors and start working on Ebisu as soon as possible, or would I be good to pick up Wader's or Apron before Rumors?

Don't take this the wrong way, but for ebisu you basically need 1 of 2 things: 1.) Potential large amount of gil, or 2.) Lu and a lot of time/WWing. If you don't have one of these serpent rumors may be a waste for now. If I've read your post properly you don't have a Lu no, and it'd take a pretty large sacrifice to afford one?

My opinion would be put the Ebisu dream on the backburner for a bit, and focus on your current *need* of a Lu without gimping yourself. Once you have the Lu and the ability to make 130k straight to NPC while skilling up everyday then decide which of the 2 above paths you want to take for ebisu. As for GP's, start saving them, and once you have 100k's worth re-assess your situation.

oh ya, it also depends what server your on, some you can get ebisu fish for 8k, others it's 20k. sorry if I mis-read between the lines, or this isn't what you wanted to hear, but figured you'd appreciate honesty instead of just blowing smoke up your ass.

Focus on getting the Lu's. Fish Moat/Sandfish every day and wrap that up within a few months. It's totally worth it.

Then if you still have access to gil, buy a 2nd Lu's for fishing Ebisu. That's what I did, since I didn't have woodworking. Made some decent progress.

(eventually fished with a WW buddy instead though, so WW is totally worth it)

Been making 130k a day and skilling up fairly fast so that's already underway. Was debating saving for a few weeks and buying another Lu when I'm in my 80s with Rumors for fishing legendaries, or simply continuing to fish Nash all day and buying Liks and Gugs.

Also, while I don't have WW for myself I do have a friend who has high enough WW and is willing to fix my rod when it breaks, so there's also that.

If you have the willpower for it do both, fish to cap in Nash on a daily basis and turn that 150k into 10-20 Liks/gugs a day depending on your servers prices. It's a great theory if you can limit yourself to only spending the gil you made that day via fishing on the liks/gugs.

With regards to the MMM for Seagull ring; I am not real sure how they work since this stuff was added to the game while I wasn't playing. I tried to read the wiki but it wasn't that clear to me.

Is the Aquatic Depopulation MMM available to me from the start or am I going to have to do other mazes to earn marbles to get that one? I would like to start soloing this maze and try for a Seagull Ring while I am still low fishing (37 atm) so that I can have one ready to go when I really need it.

I know cdgreg said that you can get a ring on a pretty much blank voucher so I am not too concerned about loading it up with the other runes or whatever they are called but does anyone have any advice on how to get started from scratch?

Starting from scratch, you have to buy a copy off of Duplidoc. That's what I've done from the beginning and continue to do even after I have enough marbles to make my own since it only costs 500 gil versus n marbles.

I remember reading a lot about the bait people used for Freshwater (sinking minnow, worm lure) and people talking about what runes they were using on their saltwater mazes; but what bait are people using in the saltwater? It is looking like I am going to have to use this saltwater maze until I can afford my own maze.

Just buy a blank maze and use that, people have gotten rings off them.
