Carbuncle got tricorn for fish ranking this round. Pretty sure that means anyone who gets a tricorn will be guaranteed to finish top 20.![]()
first off, I'd like to thank everyone for posting all their information! As a beginning fisher, this thread has been a wealth of knowledge and reading back through the pages I've found some really helpful things that I would never have found on my own through wiki.
So, Fish Ranking rules on Phoenix at the moment is smallest size Lik. I figure this fish is sold very quickly on AH for Ebisu, so the chances of buying one that was already submitted is very slim. I bought 10, picked the smallest, which I doubt will place but I figured I could turn them into the NPC daily until I get a very small one. "Unfortunately" after turning in 6 Lik, I get opal silk. What a nice way to start my day!!
At the moment, I'm level 74.9 fishing (that last .1 is always so stubborn for me). If I'm lucky enough to get my other Ebisu item before or at 78, I'll let the thread know so you can throw whatever additional fishing tests at me that haven't previously been done.
btw: I've been testing those ahtapot gut ingots for their synthing caps. If you have smithing 100 friends, it would be interesting to see all the HQ results for those ingots.
Grats on opal silk. Best bet to get a winning fish for smallest lik is to figure out who the lik/gug fishermen are on your server. Try searching the meadows randomly, offer a decent gil reward for a good catch. Checking auction sales might help also. By decent gil I mean 500k or more, it's an easy sale once you have a winning fish to bazzar it for 1mil+ haha
Fish ranking is Cave cherax. Because I anticipate having something like 200 Dwarf Pugs in 2 weeks, I am faced with a question. Is Mooching required to even use Dwarf Pugs to catch anything or is it only required to catch Liks and Gugs like Rumors? I want to fish Matsya!
Ive also given up on getting the MMM rings. I have around 10k marbles between Math and Bean and doing the MMM is more of a pain in the ass now then OMG RINGZ!
Mooching improves your bite time when using live bait.
To hook the lik/gugras you only need rumors, to land them you'll either need rings or mooching+bait.
Good luck with yo fishies :D
In other words, don't waste ex bait on Lik/Gugru, since Albatross ring is so easy to get.
Stock pile them for when Matsya becomes worthwhile.
Got my first Gugrusaurus today![]()
I thought the whole reason they exist was so you can npc matsya for 25k each. >_>
So I kinda doubt they'll ever be an inside the belly fish.
SE said something along the lines "Don't try turning them into Zaldon just yet" In an interview a long ways back if I recall correctly.
My guess? At some point through the trudge to the 99 cap an update will give us the ability to gut matsya which will give us some new even more powerful fishing item.
I'd live some kind of super lure to go with ebisu.
^
So sick of still loosing shit with my "relic rod"
Considering the only fish that snap the almighty ebisu's line are gugra lik and matsya, they are kind of like 2000 pz, or the matsya which is, according to ffxi measurements, the size of an airship, Im not that surprised.
What'd rock though would be some mega lure for liks/gugras/matsya, hooks them and them only and prevents line being snapped.
Did anyone mention "Relic Lure" yet? That'd be cool as long as it had a never line break policy and only targets fish 100+.
I have assumed that Pelican Ring (skill ups ring) was like albatross ring in that if you unequip it, the enchantment wears off...
Wiki confirms this, but the other day I was called away 5 minutes into enchantment for an HNM (ARG!), so when I went to mog and job-changed the enchantment didn't wear off. I double checked to make sure I had no rings equipped, and I was in fact naked and DID still have the enchantment.
Was I glitched? I'll try again later, but if anyone can puzzle this out without me risking a charge, could you please clue me in?
